About Group Calendar 5

Limited updates until the expansion

I've activated a Starter Edition subscription so that I can test changes being posted in the comments before I upload them. I won't be updating frequently or doing earnest development until after the expansion when I activate my normal account, but please use the comments to share fixes you find until then and I'll work on getting them integrated and posted. Thanks!

Reporting Bugs

Feel free to report bugs in the comments section at the bottom of this page, but please remove the addon list from your logs. Those lists tend to be very large which makes it much harder for me to read and reply to other posts. I will ask for the addon list if I think it might be important or, better yet, create a CurseForge ticket and include the whole log in there instead. Thanks!

About Group Calendar 5

IMPORTANT: You must not enable Group Calendar 4 and Group Calendar 5 at the same time, neither one will be happy about it. You can switch back and forth and will not lose data in either one by doing so, you just can't enable both at once.

I have not written a manual for Group Calendar 5 yet, but the GC4 manual is available at http://wobbleworks.com/groupcalendar/manual/ and covers many of the principles used in GC5's design.

Group Calendar 5 features

  • Compatible with the built-in calendar and web-based armory calendars
  • View and edit events using local or server dates and times
  • Track tradeskill cooldowns
  • Create partnerships for coordinating events across multiple guilds
  • Export your calendar to the iCalendar format for use in external applications or web calendars
  • Reminders for upcoming events and tradeskill cooldowns
  • View events and get reminders while on your alts
  • Easy invite management to track group composition
  • Quickly invite players to the raid from the attendance list
  • Set level limits and duration for events
  • Analog clock with date on the minimap button for attractive timekeeping

Group Calendar 5 is completely re-built around the WoW calendar database. This allows it to work with the built-in calendar, including the armory web-based calendar. Also, because it works with the built-in calendar, your guild members are not required to use this addon since they can use the built-in calendar instead. They will still see your events and be able to sign up for them even if they choose to use the built-in calendar.

There is no documentation yet as I'm still working on development. The operation is similar to GC4, except that events only show up for players you invite. There is a new Invite tab in the event editor for selecting who should see the event and the selection will be remembered so that next time you create the same event you won't have to re-select it.

The multi-guild partnerships feature is different too because of the invite system the WoW calendar uses. To support multi-guild partnerships use the Partners tab in the main window to set up a roster-sharing partnership with a player in the other guild(s). Follow the instructions on that tab to set up the partnership. Once it's set up, the partner guilds will appear in your Invite tab in the event editor, where you can then mass-invite players from those guilds.

Since Blizzard doesn't have any support for mass-inviting players from other guilds, GC5 will invite them one at a time at the maximum speed Blizzard allows. This can take a while for large partnerships and I recommend that you use copy-and-paste to create additional events once you have an event set up the way you want it. Note that you can not copy an event while you're creating it, you must create it first and then you can copy it and paste the copy to a new date.

My guild has always loved being able to add notes when we sign up for an event. Will this feature be coming to GC5?
thank you for the great addons!

Unfortunately, the ability to leave a comment, as well as the ability to say "maybe" instead of only yes and no, are up to Blizzard to provide. If they add a comment field then I can piggyback the "maybe" feature onto it, but without a comment field I can't do anything extra with the invite records. I know Blizzard is aware of the desire for those features, but I don't know if or when they plan to add it.

Some minimap addons (pminimap, forund on wowinterface) do not work with the clock image possibly from them making their own clock.

Please add a /command to open this addon to help live with this.

    good job, love the addon!

    /cal show

    Will show the UI and

    /cal help

will list all the available commands. Not very many are implemented yet, but there should be a set comparable to GC4's once it's final.

Question, the one thing I dont like about the In-Game Calendar is that once you invite people to the raid via level and rank, any new members of that rank that hit 80, or new recruits to the guild will not see the event unless someone explicitly goes and updates the event.

Is Group Calendar able to update the invite conditions based on level and rank when any new member or current member progresses to meet the criteria?

We set guild events sometimes as far as a month out for review so they can be planned around, its just tedious to have to explicitly update each event anytime a new member meets the criteria so to speak.
  • #4069
GC5 won't automatically invite new members to existing events, but it is easier in GC5 than in the built-in calendar since you can just click the checkbox for your guild in GC5's Invite tab and it will add any missing members who qualify for the event.

Your best bet is to use the Guild Event type since it doesn't require invites at all -- everyone in your guild will see those.

Throughout development of GC5 I've been planning ways to implement invites which automatically update as members join or level up, but it's a little tricky since I have to be careful not to re-invite people who deliberately removed themselves from an event. That means I need to make each event remember who's ever been invited, which I don't currently do. Someday I'd like to get that in though.

I also intend to modify the invite system to remember which ranks you invite to an event instead of remembering individual players. Once I've added that, then new events will pick up new members and newly-leveled members without having to visit the Invite tab each time you create an event.
  • #4066
We are currently using GC5 for our raids....I am not an officer but I do lead raids and can't create a guild event, the selection is grayed out. I have to go in and invite each person individually. Is there something we are missing or can you tell me how to fix it?
  • #4067
If it's grayed out then your guild leader hasn't given your rank permission to post guild events. They control that via the Blizzard UI in the same place they edit ranks and control guild bank access.
  • #4063
Umm, Just DL'd and installed. Why is there nothing under the settings tab? Says it is underconstruction? How you suppose to configure it without that part??
  • #4064
GC5 doesn't require configuration, that panel will eventually contain customization options such as turning off unwanted features. There is no channel configuration in GC5, unlike GC4 and earlier.
  • #4061
I installed the newest version after completely deleting the old one. For a few days it worked fine, but now I am getting the Cooldowns for pretty much every member in the guild again. Can't those not just be turned off somewhere?
  • #4062
You'll stop getting them once those other members upgrade out of 5.0 beta 4, since it's 5.0b4 that's generating them accidentally. There is no option to turn off cooldown reminders yet, as the Options tab is the last major thing I haven't finished. Bear in mind though that this is just a bug in the beta build, normally it's a very unobtrusive feature.
  • #4065
    Speaking of that Mundocani...
Can we get a listing of known user version, like in previous GC?
Is that an expected final feature is this awesome work?
  • #4070
I plan to add that feature back in for 5.1, but I've decided to cut it for the 5.0 release so that I can get the release done.

Btw, you'll find a list of the features planned for 5.1 as well as remaining bugs/features for 5.0 in your GC5 Documentation folder in the Release Notes.txt file.
  • #4059
I was wondering, I have SLDataText and I had it coded so if I Alt-Clicked the Time it would pull up GC it worked for 4.5 but when I updated to 5 it stopped working Did you change the call function command or am I missing something simple?
