About Group Calendar 5

I'm not updating Group Calendar for now

I've suspended my WoW subscription and will probably not be playing again until the next expansion. If you come up with code changes to fix problems introduced by content patches in the meantime, please post your fixes in the comments section and I'll work on getting them integrated and posted.

Reporting Bugs

Feel free to report bugs in the comments section at the bottom of this page, but please remove the addon list from your logs. Those lists tend to be very large which makes it much harder for me to read and reply to other posts. I will ask for the addon list if I think it might be important or, better yet, create a CurseForge ticket and include the whole log in there instead. Thanks!

About Group Calendar 5

IMPORTANT: You must not enable Group Calendar 4 and Group Calendar 5 at the same time, neither one will be happy about it. You can switch back and forth and will not lose data in either one by doing so, you just can't enable both at once.

I have not written a manual for Group Calendar 5 yet, but the GC4 manual is available at http://wobbleworks.com/groupcalendar/manual/ and covers many of the principles used in GC5's design.

Group Calendar 5 features

  • Compatible with the built-in calendar and web-based armory calendars
  • View and edit events using local or server dates and times
  • Track tradeskill cooldowns
  • Create partnerships for coordinating events across multiple guilds
  • Export your calendar to the iCalendar format for use in external applications or web calendars
  • Reminders for upcoming events and tradeskill cooldowns
  • View events and get reminders while on your alts
  • Easy invite management to track group composition
  • Quickly invite players to the raid from the attendance list
  • Set level limits and duration for events
  • Analog clock with date on the minimap button for attractive timekeeping

Group Calendar 5 is completely re-built around the WoW calendar database. This allows it to work with the built-in calendar, including the armory web-based calendar. Also, because it works with the built-in calendar, your guild members are not required to use this addon since they can use the built-in calendar instead. They will still see your events and be able to sign up for them even if they choose to use the built-in calendar.

There is no documentation yet as I'm still working on development. The operation is similar to GC4, except that events only show up for players you invite. There is a new Invite tab in the event editor for selecting who should see the event and the selection will be remembered so that next time you create the same event you won't have to re-select it.

The multi-guild partnerships feature is different too because of the invite system the WoW calendar uses. To support multi-guild partnerships use the Partners tab in the main window to set up a roster-sharing partnership with a player in the other guild(s). Follow the instructions on that tab to set up the partnership. Once it's set up, the partner guilds will appear in your Invite tab in the event editor, where you can then mass-invite players from those guilds.

Since Blizzard doesn't have any support for mass-inviting players from other guilds, GC5 will invite them one at a time at the maximum speed Blizzard allows. This can take a while for large partnerships and I recommend that you use copy-and-paste to create additional events once you have an event set up the way you want it. Note that you can not copy an event while you're creating it, you must create it first and then you can copy it and paste the copy to a new date.

Great addon, keep up the good work. After using the ingame calendar, our guild went back to Group Calendar because the features are SO MUCH BETTER. You rock!
  • #3502
Thank you. I really hope Blizzard improves their calendar though and doesn't let it just wallow like they did with their voice chat feature. Having a centralized database is so much better than the shared peer-to-peer databases that Group Calendar and GEM have had to deal with. My hope is they'll add the support necessary for roles (either explicitly adding role support or by adding an attendance comment field where I could tuck away a role code), then I could re-implement Group Calendar using the Blizzard database which would be so nice :)

Can u please change the "/command" (/calendar) to something differnt, Bliz uses the (/calendar) command to open the in game cal. Also using /cal clock off, removes the clock from the mini map, but when you click on the in game cal icon, it still opens Group Cal instead of In Game Cal (Plz update this)
  • #3493
I already plan to remove the /calendar command (the /cal command will still work for GC). Scroll down a short ways and you'll find a message I posted about how to remove this command manually for now.
  • #3491
Anyway to use both GC and Bliz Calendar at the same time?
  • #3494
See the post by mkai a few below yours and my response to that post.
  • #3490
I'm small problems with icons button grpcal vs calbliz on minimap, plz change place to grpcal button on minimap.

    Sorry for my english :/
  • #3483
Doesn't seem to be synchronizing, we're now up to 16+ minutes, it is refreshing when it gets to 0 each time.
  • #3485
Everyone is experiencing that? I haven't seen it do that myself, so I'm wondering if it's an isolated thing or if several members get it. Also, what version are you running?
  • #3486
Running the most current version, the only other thing I have running is Omen and DBM
  • #3488
Are other members having the same problem? Is it working correctly for some members? Just trying to figure out the scope of the problem since it's not happening to me.
  • #3487
Our entire guild restarted with 4.2.1 after the 3.x patches and no problems here.
  • #3482
In testing a few things today, I noticed that events set up with the Blizzard calendar cause the clock to blink with no way to show and resolve those events in the built in calendar. /calendar or /cal only shows Group Calendar. Is there a way to allow both calendars to be usable until such time as they are perhaps merged into a Group Calendar that perhaps utilizes the blizzard databases?
  • #3484
For a quick fix, open GroupCalendar.lua in any text editor and look for this

    SlashCmdList.CALENDAR = function (...) GroupCalendar:ExecuteCommand(...) end
    SLASH_CALENDAR1 = "/calendar"

Put two dashes in front of both lines, like this

    -- SlashCmdList.CALENDAR = function (...) GroupCalendar:ExecuteCommand(...) end
    -- SLASH_CALENDAR1 = "/calendar"

and then do /reloadui. You can then still use /cal to get to Group Calendar but /calendar will take you to Blizzards.

I'll remove the /calendar command from GC for the next build.

To address comments below, I can see why raid participants might believe this addon is pointless. However, it is not, especially for raid organizers. To that end, I am curious if this addon will in the future extend the built in interface to include mass inviting of people to a raid (built-in only does single person at a time) as well as pre-raid organization into DPS/tanks/healers, etc.

Inquiring minds want to know! :)
