About GTFO

Stop standing in fire!

GTFO provides an audible alert when you're standing in something you're not supposed to be standing in. In some cases, you'll be warned before you start taking damage. This mod improves your situational awareness and is recommended for dungeon divers and raiders of all skill levels as even the most seasoned veteran sometimes needs a reminder to GTFO.

It's particularly useful for individuals that play with their spell graphics turned down as well as assisting with PvP when you can't tell who's casting the AOE.

Important Announcement: As with any new expansion or content patch, there may be alerts that are untested as well as encounter changes from Beta/PTR. Bug reports are highly appreciated!

  • 4 distinct audible alerts for different types of damage
    • High Alert - Dungeon/raid encounter AOE that you want to get out of it ASAP
    • Low Alert - PvP and low damage AOE, use your best judgment whether or not to move
    • Fail Alert - AOE you should have moved out of the way of, but it's too late (e.g. KZ void zone, Sindragosa bomb)
    • Friendly Fire Alert - AOE radiating from a teammate's body, one of you needs to move
  • Tuned for dungeons and raids in original vanilla WoW, Burning Crusade, Wrath of the Lich King, Cataclysm, and Mists of Pandaria
  • Alert you before you start taking damage (when possible, in some cases)
  • Alert you during vehicle fights when your vehicle is in danger (e.g. Malygos, Flame Leviathan)
  • Tank and non-tank specific alerts
  • Visual alerts available when used with Weak Auras or Power Auras Classic (optional)
  • Statistical information of alerts when used with Recount or Skada (optional)
  • GTFO-specific volume slider
  • Small memory footprint and very little CPU usage
  • Option to ignore alerts for trivial content
  • Option to auto-unmute sounds if you play without sound on

Slash Commands

/gtfo - Help menu
/gtfo options - Set configuration options
/gtfo standby - Suspend/Resume addon
/gtfo version - Show version numbers for your party/raid
/gtfo test - Simulate a high damage alert
/gtfo test2 - Simulate a low damage alert
/gtfo test3 - Simulate a fail alert
/gtfo test4 - Simulate a friendly fire alert

Install and you're ready to go.

You can configure the mod by typing "/gtfo options" or by navigating to Options->Interface->AddOns->GTFO.

To use the "Play sounds when muted" option and still hear GTFO sounds, your "Master Volume" slider must be set to a value higher than 0%.

Weak Auras Integration

GTFO can be set up with Weak Auras to provide visual alerts in addition to (or in lieu of) the audible alerts.

  1. Install the Weak Auras addon
  2. Type "/wa" in game to bring up the Weak Auras menu
  3. Click "Texture", "Text", or "Icon"
  4. Click the "Trigger" tab
  5. Change the "Type" to "Event"
  6. Change the "Event" to "GTFO Alert"
  7. Check "Alert Type" and select a GTFO alert type
  8. Set a short number (like .1) in Duration
  9. Use the other configuration options to fine-tune your alert

Power Auras Integration

GTFO can be set up with Power Auras to provide visual alerts in addition to (or in lieu of) the audible alerts.

  1. Install the Power Auras Classic addon
  2. Type "/powa" in game to bring up the Power Auras menu
  3. Click "Page 1" to create a character-only alert or "Global 1" to create an account-wide alert
  4. Click "new" to create a new alert
  5. Change the dropdown value for "Activation By:" to "GTFO Alert"
  6. Select your alert type: High/Low/Fail/Friendly Fire
  7. Use the other configuration options to fine-tune your alert

Recount/Skada Integration

GTFO can be set up with Recount or Skada to provide detailed statistical information of alerts.

A word of caution: the damage amount displayed on GTFO Alerts may not be fully indicative of the total damage done, especially with fail alerts. For example: if you're hit by a tornado, the damage and fail alert from the tornado picking you up could be 5k, but the fall damage when you hit the ground afterwards is 100k. The amount recorded by Recount/Skada will be 5k.

    I will say this, It has to be LUI that isn't playing nice with GTFO because I ran Bartender and GTFO and DBM and Recount and dozens of others just fine for weeks, it was only today that I installed a new addon, LUI (the version of LUI core that was released this morning v3.48).

    Anyhow, as I was loading addons two at a time, anytime I picked GTFO to load, it froze, after several tries, I decided to load everything else except for GTFO and everything loaded. When GTFO was last one to test, it froze loading screen.

    You'll need to uninstall and reinstall GTFO in order to get GTFO to work do this from the curse client and remove all existing settings as well. LUI apears to be editing it in some way, I found this out when kind of testing out stuff... If you delete your WTF folder it'll work until you logout of the game once if you disable LUI it'll work none stop as long as you don't load GTFO while LUI is running ever.
  • #207
    A few people reported this in tickets. The way I found to fix this is to make sure you have the latest version of GTFO, and reset/delete your Recount data from the WTF folder for any character that's not loading.

    I still don't think Recount has anything to do with it, nor GTFO. I believe it was LUI that caused the issues. When I made my original post here I had LUI core r348, since then they updated and I am now running LUI and GTFO just fine. For me, right now (day + later) all is well with all addons concerned.

    After I made my post right above this one I went to the LUI ticket I wrote concerning GTFO and LUI. Here is what an author had to say.

    Zensunim said, "GTFO adds its a page to Recount for "GTFO alerts" and when data is added to this extra page, it prevents the game from loading if LUI is running.

    Here's how I reproduced it:
    1. Install an older version of GTFO *before* version 4.9 (4.8.7 works).
    2. Configure GTFO (/gtfo options) to allow for trivial alerts.
    3. Go stand in a campfire or the Ironforge lava or an Orgrimmar brazier. GTFO should go off and Recount should be collecting data.
    4. Log off and log back in and you won't be able to load.

    GTFO 4.9+ detects if LUI is installed and turns off Recount integration as a temporary workaround, however if someone has GTFO data in Recount already, it will crash until that data's removed. I haven't been able to figure out exactly why LUI's Recount implementation causes this issue as it's rather difficult to debug an application when it won't load in the first place. end quote

    Another one! I don't get what's going on here... :/

    If you have the Curse Client, can you submit a bug by right-clicking GTFO and selecting "Report a bug"? That'll let me know what other addons you may be running.
  • #200
    I've replyed using the Client function & yes I use the latest LUI DBM BT4 & Recount... I had a feeling it may be conflicting with another mod I just don't understand why its specific to one toon alone?

    Please add the stuff on ground from exploding spiders at Beth:

    GTFO.SpellID["99278"] = {
    sound = 1;
    tankSound = 1;

    GTFO.SpellID["101133"] = {
    sound = 1;
    tankSound = 1;

    Good find. That spell (Volatile Poison) wasn't listed in the raid journal and my guild is only on Majordomo Staghelm normal at the moment, so anything past that is untested by me. :( (Nobody told me I was missing all of the Majordomo's stuff all this time too! argh...)

    This will be added in the next version. If you (or your raiders) encounter more things like this, please let me know and I can add them. The best way is by filing a ticket here so I can track it: (using your login)

    Thanks for your help!

    Well, I have a problem is that when I get GTFO I to the middle of the loading screen, maybe it's some kind of incompatibility with the LUI because I think I remember that happening before putting

    someone else feels the same? and if it could be that usually fix bug?
  • #191
    Same thing is happening to me ever since I installed LUI
  • #199
    I think I narrowed down the issue. Can you try disabling only Recount and see if that works? I believe LUI's implementation of Recount might be the problem, but I need help to determine if that's the case.
  • #192
    From the information I got so far, it seems to be a problem more with LUI than with GTFO. However, I'm not sure why GTFO is being singled out by the addon compilation.

    GTFO hasn't had a major code update for a very long time. Most of the updates in the last few months have been to add new spell IDs for discovered events, mostly from the Firelands raid and Molten Front/Hyjal daily quests.

    I would suggest also posting your issue to the LUI support forums at or . They may have additional insight as to what the problem might be.

    I don't use LUI, but I installed it. However, I was unable to reproduce the problems being seen here.
  • #205
    I'll take a look at this; it probably has to do with our font hack. We hook/modify some functions so I'm guessing that or database fail on our part!. Will create a ticket on curseforge for you if I solve the issue, so you could remove the LUI exemption:P.
  • #206
    Turns out I can't reproduce the bug! Got it initially, then it just stopped :/. I can confirm it isn't our font hack, but rather our install settings for recount. But doing a comparative of the settings we change and the settings GTFO accesses I could only link CurFightData. As for the LUI exemption, I got the freeze with and without it the first few times; which is extremely odd.
