About Hero

Hero

Description:

Hero is a very light addon designed to alert the player when certain abilities are used within their Raid or Party. Primarily it is designed for Healers, Tanks and Raid leaders. The sorts of cooldowns tracked tend to be those relevant to Tank/Healer interaction. For example Shield Wall or Pain Suppression with the intention of better allowing Tanks, Healers and Raid leaders to manage their abilities within a raid or party. Many abilities are not tracked in order to keep spam to a minimum and insure only useful information is provided. Hero does not communicate in raid chat, it is solely for the benefit of the player running the addon.

Running the addon:

Alerts come in the format:

+ TARGET :: SPELL :: CASTER + Although they can be switched to + CASTER :: SPELL :: TARGET + if that is more intuitive In both cases they are accompanied by a sound alert and color coding for losses/gains and class.

Hero is primarily aimed at a PvE environment and so will automatically disable itself in Arena, Battlegrounds, or the Wintergrasp zone to avoid spam.

Slash Commands:

/Hero

- Displays list of commands

/Hero menu

- Brings up the interface menu. This can also be reached through the standard Blizzard interface button on Escape menu. The menu allows you to do all the tasks you can do with slash commands as well as: Change the font size. Check or uncheck all the spells hero tracks, broken down into groups (Buff, SelfBuff, GroupdBuff, Spell, Channel). There are two checkboxes for each spell. The "Show" box determines whether Hero tracks that spell. The "&Show Mine" box is something that can be checked or unchecked in addition to the "Show" box. Unchecking it will hide announcements for your own spell casts, whilst checking it will give you alerts for your own spells (so long as the "Show" box is also checked"). This is sometimes preferable - for example for Guardian Spirit, whilst other times is not, e.g. Taunt. Hero is configured by default with what I'd suggest might be useful, but feel free to change it. Once you have checked or unchecked the spells you want press the "Okay" button to commit this. Clicking thee cancel button will undo any changes made.

The remaining slash commands are provided for convenience. /Hero enable

- enables/disables the Hero on a per character basis

/Hero lock

- lock/unlocks the frame

/Hero sound

- enable/disables the sound alerts

/Hero reverse

- Switches between the default "Target :: Spell :: Caster" and a "Caster :: Spell :: Target" format.

/Hero reset

- Resets the position of the anchor to the center of the screen in case it has become inaccessible.

In particular, the following abilities have alerts:

Hero v2.01 Published 17/10/10

Changelog since 2.0
 - Added a few additional spells - Reincarnation, Aura Mastery, Tremor Totem
 - Moved the font slider

Changelog since v1.4

 - Updated TOC to patch 4.0x
 - Some overhauls to the anchor to fix bugs, should now correctly display messages the first time you log in and any time you log in after that
 - Have added a Menu system reachable by either "/hero menu" or through the standard blizzard interface tab.
    - Menu system allows: Enable/Lock/Toggle Sound/Reverse Message Order/Change Font size
 - Added in tabs into the Menu showing a list of all the Buffs, Self Buffs, Group Buffs, Spells and Channels being tracked by Hero.
 - Players may choose to enable or disable tracking different spells. There is a secondary checkbox called "Show Mine" which determines if your own casts of a spell are tracked
Chosing not to track a spell will hide that spell completely - so unchecking the "Show" box, but checking the "Show Mine" check will still not track your own casts.
This allows players to determine if they want to see when other people cast Lay on Hands, but not see their own.

 - Because of Blizzards implementation of Zones like Anti Magic Zone and Power Word: Barrier it is not simple to tell if these spells were cast by a raid/party member when they fade.
Rather than pester people with alerts about other players Power Word: Barriers when running through Orgrimmar I have disabled reporting for these spells fading. You will only be alerted to these spells when they are cast, not when they fade.

 - Various new spells are in the game. If there are ones you would like to see Hero track which are not currently, please send me a message. Eventually I would like to allow players to add new spells through the interface whenver they like, but for the time being please get in contact if there are additional spells you would like added.

    4.2 compatibility

This is a patch for the latest version to make it 4.2 compatible (at least everything I tested worked)

    stopped working with 4.1! :-(

an update would be really really awesome!!! I just can't life without this thingy anymore...^^

Next time you update the addon, if you ever will, remember to add Argent Defender to the Paladin self buff list.

Apart from that I haven't noticed anything missing since the last update, even after all these patches. Good job :)

I really love the addon, using it since version 1!
An update would be quite great though... unfortunately a lot of stuff doesn't work anymore. as mentioned before the taunts, rebirths and anhks don't work either...
P.S.: I added Hymn of Hope manually, but for some ridicolous reason it just won't show up, but Divine Hymn does!

Does not seem to work for me anymore. I get no messages about taunts

    Hello,

I have to say that I love this addon.
But I would love to know when healers throw Divine Plea or Innervate.

As tank I can use cooldowns to compensate the lesser healing.
I would also know how the mana of my healers is.

And as healer it's always good to know when people use Divine Plea because I have to make up on healing... And I can see when others needed mana (So I know if I can ask for Innervate or not)

    Some suggestions:

    Fear Ward

    Aura Mastery

    Mana Tide Totem
    Anhk

    Soulstone (maybe)

And is Beacon of light helpfull in anyway I wonder. It's something a holy paladin always keeps up.
  • #10
okay, now I'm sure of it, Heroism doesn't work either (Divine Sacrifice...)
so no 'group buff' seems to work...
  • #11
Except they do in certain situations.
If I log a paladin and solo use Divine Sac it works fine.

If I join a group with a paladin and he uses Divine Sac he gets nothing, whereas I do get the Buff fade announce, but not the buff gain announce.

It's rather inconsistent. I'll get on it.
  • #7
Awesome Soli, I will definitely try it out!
  • #6
is it possible you could add taunts like death grip/aoe taunts etc etc. to this "warning" list? and maybe also add an option to turn off and on certain warnings?

also wanna end with saying great addon!
  • #8
    Thank you.
Yes AoE taunts is a good idea. And being able to turn certain abilities on/off is something I've always planned to put in.
I hate addons where you have to do lots of convoluted "/Hero ..." commands to do things so I have a menu system in the works. It will take me a while to get it right though, (incorporated into the Interface menu in the Blizzard UI for instance).
So yes it's in the plans, no it won't be for a little while.

Divine Sacrifice (Paladin) doesn't seem to work for me... :( I assume it's Group Buffs in generell, not sure about Heroism/Bloodlust...

Otherwise really useful addon... I've been looking for something like this since... like forever xD

Thank you for the heads up, I don't have a high enough level paladin so it's a little tricky to test a couple of the buffs.

Some of the ways Blizzard event handling responds differs depending on whether you're in a group or a raid situation.

I'll have a look at it. Are you playing the paladin in question? And is it a raid or a group?
  • #9
If've tested it with a paladin buddy of mine, we were in a raid togehter, but not in combat (in case this matters in any way)...
