About HudMap

HudMap is still beta!

I'd love for people to start using it, chewing on it, trying it out. Tell me what you like, what you don't, what breaks, and what you'd like to see. Bugs are to be expected, though it's fairly stable at this point. There are a lot of directions that the mod could go, and I'd love feedback.

Additionally, if you play WoW in a non-English language, you're invited to help by localizing HudMap into your client's language. We need translators!

What is it?

HudMap is an addon that provides a true heads-up tactical display of an encounter, with raid member positions, range data, debuff area-of-effect indicators, and more.

Additionally, HudMap ships with totem radius indicators. In general, if you want to do range or player-to-player directional stuff, HudMap's your huckleberry.

How do I toggle the HUD?

Left-click the LibDataBroker icon, or set a key binding in the HudMap options to toggle the map on and off.

Can I move or resize the HUD?

Absolutely. Right-click on the LibDataBroker icon, or go to Interface Options -> AddOns -> HudMap -> Adaptive Zoom -> Set Area. This will let you define the location and size of the map.

Can I turn [specific feature] off?

Yes! HudMap is very flexible. Though it comes with some functionality turned on, there are lots of options and you can tweak it to your preferences to show as much or as little as you'd like.

How do I request a new feature?

Just create a feature request ticket. That's the best way to ask for new functionality!

Can I use this in to replace AVRe? Possibly. You can use it in a similar manner, though it definitely takes a very different approach to information display. HudMap is designed to give you proximity awareness of your partymates and areas that are potentially hazardous due to proximity or some other effect that boss mods generally warn you about. In that sense, yes, it's a replacement.

However, HudMap is not going to let you annotate the world, add additional data over physical locations, or let you draw obscene pictures on Arthas before you pull him. HudMap does nothing to emulate or project 3D data, and never will. Additionally, feature parity is not a goal of the project - some information is better presented in AVR than it will ever be in HudMap, and I'm not going to try to replicate that. Other data will fit HudMap better naturally, and those pieces will be actively pursued.

Is this addon going to get banned because Blizzard doesn't like AVR?

To head off the inevitable, I've already asked Blizzard directly if this is kosher in light of the AVR breakage. They have not indicated that it is a violation of the rules. Until they indicate otherwise, HudMap will be developed and updated. The impression I get is that Blizzard's primary complaint was with AVR's ability to draw pseudo-3D images over the game world, which is outside of the scope of what the UI was intended to be able to do. HudMap doesn't do any of that.

Extending HudMap

Have an idea for a range feature? It's easy to implement one. Just see modules\example.lua for a simple framework upon which you can build your own modules.

I've used this for a few days now and love it. Today, however, during the Beasts of Northrend fight I was rather confused. 25man raid toward the end of the Jormungar portion of the fight. While it showed the players with Burning Bile, it also suddenly showed what I can only guess were 25 lines going o.0
I suddenly felt like I was tiptoeing through a game of Chinese pickup sticks with no idea what it was trying to tell me, or why I would want to know where 24 other players should go.

This is the most useful addon I've installed since DBM. It's great in every configuration aspect except for one. I wish that you could configure part/raid member icons. At least I think you should be able to change the class colors, they seem to pale and a few classes lack the contrast to tell them apart sometimes (Hunters and Rouges mainly). Like I said that is the ONE complaint I have with this addon, quite simply it is fantastic and I would encourage anyone who is reading this to give it a shot.

I use you add-on almost since it was create. And today new version of its content a lot of changes, they all good and useful. But one of them in my opinion create trouble for user – it is raid marks, they are need, but not so large, they very large! Can you add function for change it? To the marks what was in beta version of you add-on. In beta version, HudMap was small, and almost invisible in battle, but then boss create some zone what need to be evade, add-on flashing and you noticed it. But today HudMap distract me, its use a lot of place in my screen and I can’t see what happening in the battle.

Doesn't seem to be working when I enter an instance, am I missing something?

Debug mode seems to work correctly outside, but inside hudmap will not rotate at all

Did blizzard just hotfix something that broke it? I haven't tried it before today
  • #148
ok, I figured it out, it only works on the NEW dungeons that have the new maps. I guess the game doesn't give you the rotation data or whatever unless you're on a map.

it will even break if you're in the starting area of a map like violet hold, until you get into the part of the dungeon that puts you on the map

I started using this addon a few nights ago. I like it alot so far, but I noticed a semi-major bug on LK (Normal 10m). When the LK dropped defile, hudmap would show the defile at the wrong location. Additionally, the blue circles for defile never despawned, meaning that as the fight got closer and closer to finishing, the center of my screen was covered in random blue circles that had no meaning anymore. Besides that, everything seems to work well, I've used it for all 10m hardmodes up to LK with no problems (except for the previously reported bugs including: Mislabeled tanks/healers/dps and missing players on the minimap).
Thanks alot for all the work you've been putting into this addon!

I love how fast development is going with your addon and I can definitly see this as a replacement for AVR/AVRE when 3.3.5 hits the realms!

Do you intend to make some parts like the boss encounters modular so that people can add features similar to how Big Wigs is working?

Also, is it possible that it doesn't work with a low-level character (e.g. level 50 priest leveling with the dungeon finder tool) or am I just doing something wrong?

Thanks and keep up the good work!

Also Mages seem to end up marked as healers
  • #123
got this last night, i love the idea however am yet to see any warning zones on my screen, my raid also claim there was nothing. we tested in Ulduar on General Vexax and no warnings bar from DBM came to the memebrs targeted by shadow crash, which is one of the addons raid bosses.

will be testing in ICC 25 tonight on Putricide 25, are there any settings needed or aditional addons to make this work before i raid?
  • #121
    Trying the betas, my thoughts:

-Some way of testing. A lot of stuff really can't be "tested" right now when out of battle and not in a group.

-Is the circle of healing in AOE Healing implemented yet? I see the option in the latest beta, but I never see the circle itself. I should always be seeing the circle when I have a target.

Nice progress, BTW. The health bars do help me as a priest, even if they make it a little bit busier.

Just to re-confirm, very often icons are not shown for anywhere from 0-50% of the raid members. If I toggle the "show raid and party icons" option, some reappear but at the same time some dissapear. Any explanation?
  • #119
This is a bug that should be fixed in the latest betas.
  • #120
Excellent, looking forward to this fix.
  • #116
I have high hopes for this :D love it so far

First off, great addon. Really been enjoying it's functionality. I do have one concern, tho. I started customizing some options, and I ended up turning off the map rotation. So instead of the map spinning, my little icon does. The issue that pops up is that my arrow is facing the opposite direction of my minimap arrow. North is South, etc etc. So, uh... Little help? :P
