About HudMap

HudMap is still beta!

I'd love for people to start using it, chewing on it, trying it out. Tell me what you like, what you don't, what breaks, and what you'd like to see. Bugs are to be expected, though it's fairly stable at this point. There are a lot of directions that the mod could go, and I'd love feedback.

Additionally, if you play WoW in a non-English language, you're invited to help by localizing HudMap into your client's language. We need translators!

What is it?

HudMap is an addon that provides a true heads-up tactical display of an encounter, with raid member positions, range data, debuff area-of-effect indicators, and more.

Additionally, HudMap ships with totem radius indicators. In general, if you want to do range or player-to-player directional stuff, HudMap's your huckleberry.

FAQ

How do I toggle the HUD?

Left-click the LibDataBroker icon, or set a key binding in the HudMap options to toggle the map on and off.

Can I move or resize the HUD?

Absolutely. Right-click on the LibDataBroker icon, or go to Interface Options -> AddOns -> HudMap -> Adaptive Zoom -> Set Area. This will let you define the location and size of the map.

Can I turn [specific feature] off?

Yes! HudMap is very flexible. Though it comes with some functionality turned on, there are lots of options and you can tweak it to your preferences to show as much or as little as you'd like.

How do I request a new feature?

Just create a feature request ticket. That's the best way to ask for new functionality!

Can I use this in to replace AVRe? Possibly. You can use it in a similar manner, though it definitely takes a very different approach to information display. HudMap is designed to give you proximity awareness of your partymates and areas that are potentially hazardous due to proximity or some other effect that boss mods generally warn you about. In that sense, yes, it's a replacement.

However, HudMap is not going to let you annotate the world, add additional data over physical locations, or let you draw obscene pictures on Arthas before you pull him. HudMap does nothing to emulate or project 3D data, and never will. Additionally, feature parity is not a goal of the project - some information is better presented in AVR than it will ever be in HudMap, and I'm not going to try to replicate that. Other data will fit HudMap better naturally, and those pieces will be actively pursued.

Is this addon going to get banned because Blizzard doesn't like AVR?

To head off the inevitable, I've already asked Blizzard directly if this is kosher in light of the AVR breakage. They have not indicated that it is a violation of the rules. Until they indicate otherwise, HudMap will be developed and updated. The impression I get is that Blizzard's primary complaint was with AVR's ability to draw pseudo-3D images over the game world, which is outside of the scope of what the UI was intended to be able to do. HudMap doesn't do any of that.

Extending HudMap

Have an idea for a range feature? It's easy to implement one. Just see modules\example.lua for a simple framework upon which you can build your own modules.

How does one fix the totem radius thing. I got it to "show" but it's just one thick yellow ring when totems are dropped. Haven't figured out yet how to show each radius.

Was doing Sindragosa 25 last night and noticed that after a few attempts the circle for blistering cold was disappearing almost as soon as it appeared, or just not appearing at all.

Great addon, however I have noticed a few issues. The first being that the addon very often does not show raid member's icons, I can target them and it will highlight where their icon is supposed to be, but there is no icon. Secondly, often players roles are flagged incorrectly, such as tanks being shown as dps or healers being shown as tanks, etc.

Edit: 1 more concern, the option to "Arrow to target" shows arrows from other raid members to their targets. Is this intended? I would like to use this option but currently all it does is fill my screen with arrows from all different raid members.

i think a good addition would be something to show the range of Demon portal for warlocks. i know i sometimes get out of range without noticing it and would like something to show how far i should go

I have noticed a few bugs while using this in ICC.

    1) During the Rotface encounter I see a green line with an arrow pointing to the tank from the player. However every time I personally get affected by the disease the green line with the arrow does not pop up guiding me to the off tank.

    2) On the Professor P fight the area where it shows maluable goo is going to hit is sometimes off because even when I moved out of the green circle on the hudmap display I was still hit by the goo every now and then.

Other then that it seems to be working fine, I will update you with any other bugs I run across.

. . . and oh, yeah - what about having, say, the choice of using the minimap as a background? I noticed you could, if you wanted, border and background it so it sorta acts like a minimap, so maybe it could actually be a minimap too if the player wanted?

    Suggestions:

-Allow me to set it to show my target. I would like to be able to target stuff out of combat and have them appear on the HUD.

-Allow me to set a range marker around my target instead of myself. This may sound like an odd request, but: I am a priest, and Circle of Healing heals within 15 yards of my target, not myself. It would certainly help to see if there's enough targets in range of the spell.

-Some sort of healing indicator on the HUD. Again, as a priest, very valuable. Some ideas for the display:
    --Bars
--Circles that show health as a pie chart
    --Colors

Dunno what is best, but some sort of health display would be useful. Especially if combined with the target range marker idea.

    - You should be able to target people and have it highlight them. Check "Show Target Names" under the Party & Raid module for even more clear highlighting.
    - Range marker around others makes sense. I've been thinking about it, and I'm not sure how I want to implement it yet, but yeah, that's coming.
    - I've been thinking about adding tiny health bars on party icons, but I'm concerned it might be too cluttered. Perhaps not. I'll give it a shot, since someone else wants it too :)

Very good so far. One thing though, the background option doesn't seem to have an option for no background. By default, it comes up with no background, but once you set one, you can't seem to get rid of it.
  • #101
There should be a "None" option in there, isn't there?
  • #107
Just confirming that yes, there is no "none" option.
  • #105
Nope. Border has a none option, but background only has a bunch of blizzard ones, Moo and solid.
  • #99
    Liking this addon so far.

    Requesting support for Shadow Trap.
  • #95
the recent update for me created a minimap option! so excited to try this addon out now lol
