About HudMap

HudMap is still beta!

I'd love for people to start using it, chewing on it, trying it out. Tell me what you like, what you don't, what breaks, and what you'd like to see. Bugs are to be expected, though it's fairly stable at this point. There are a lot of directions that the mod could go, and I'd love feedback.

Additionally, if you play WoW in a non-English language, you're invited to help by localizing HudMap into your client's language. We need translators!

What is it?

HudMap is an addon that provides a true heads-up tactical display of an encounter, with raid member positions, range data, debuff area-of-effect indicators, and more.

Additionally, HudMap ships with totem radius indicators. In general, if you want to do range or player-to-player directional stuff, HudMap's your huckleberry.

How do I toggle the HUD?

Left-click the LibDataBroker icon, or set a key binding in the HudMap options to toggle the map on and off.

Can I move or resize the HUD?

Absolutely. Right-click on the LibDataBroker icon, or go to Interface Options -> AddOns -> HudMap -> Adaptive Zoom -> Set Area. This will let you define the location and size of the map.

Can I turn [specific feature] off?

Yes! HudMap is very flexible. Though it comes with some functionality turned on, there are lots of options and you can tweak it to your preferences to show as much or as little as you'd like.

How do I request a new feature?

Just create a feature request ticket. That's the best way to ask for new functionality!

Can I use this in to replace AVRe? Possibly. You can use it in a similar manner, though it definitely takes a very different approach to information display. HudMap is designed to give you proximity awareness of your partymates and areas that are potentially hazardous due to proximity or some other effect that boss mods generally warn you about. In that sense, yes, it's a replacement.

However, HudMap is not going to let you annotate the world, add additional data over physical locations, or let you draw obscene pictures on Arthas before you pull him. HudMap does nothing to emulate or project 3D data, and never will. Additionally, feature parity is not a goal of the project - some information is better presented in AVR than it will ever be in HudMap, and I'm not going to try to replicate that. Other data will fit HudMap better naturally, and those pieces will be actively pursued.

Is this addon going to get banned because Blizzard doesn't like AVR?

To head off the inevitable, I've already asked Blizzard directly if this is kosher in light of the AVR breakage. They have not indicated that it is a violation of the rules. Until they indicate otherwise, HudMap will be developed and updated. The impression I get is that Blizzard's primary complaint was with AVR's ability to draw pseudo-3D images over the game world, which is outside of the scope of what the UI was intended to be able to do. HudMap doesn't do any of that.

Extending HudMap

Have an idea for a range feature? It's easy to implement one. Just see modules\example.lua for a simple framework upon which you can build your own modules.

Great addon! I have a quick question for you. Perhaps I'm being stupid but I can't seem to find an option anywhere to change the overlay window's background transparency, or to lock it in place so that clicks pass through it. Clearly the functionality exists as I see it in all of your screenshots, but every time the window comes open (IE from when I left click the LDB icon) I get what appears to be the "resize" mode. How do I turn this off? If I can't click through the window, it isn't very helpful...
  • #93
Right-clicking should turn on the resize mode; left click toggles the whole hudmap on and off. Click the "X" in the top left corner of the resize mode to exit it. :)
  • #92
Ok, no, I see now that I was right clicking instead. Perhaps the left-click "place 4 test markers" functionality should cause the window to start drawing, so that I don't have to have the resize mode open to see it?

hi there, i've downloaded hudmap and installed it via the curse client but in game theres no options for the addon. it shows up on my list before logging into the game with a toon. is there a dependency that im missing?
  • #89
It should be in the interface options. I'll do some more tests to make sure it has all the dependencies, though.
  • #94
when i only turn on hudmap and then go to the interface options, there is no addon tab. if i turn omen on tho, omen enables the addon tab like normal
  • #97
There were some dependency issues that've been fixed. Try v1.1.3 and see if it's any better. :)

Thank you for the range markers! Was gonna suggest that, but you beat me to it. However, they appear to be broken atm. Once set up they stay up, regardless of the enable box being checked or not. I'm assuming the intended functionality is that you can create several different markers and turn them on / off as needed.

Would also be very handy to have a minimap icon to bring up the menu (my main is a hunter - I have more then enough keybindings already, lol)

This addon has great potential, keep up the good work!
  • #90
I'll make sure they get fixed!

I'm going to make the LDB icon bring up the options menu at some point, too. :)

As a druid I found this to be very useful for finding where someone is dead when they died off in BFE. It would be nice, though, if targetting arrows could be split up a bit; Self, Healers, Tanks, DPS.
  • #80
    Options conflict with RaidWatch 2
  • #88
    Can you elaborate?
  • #98
If HudMap is loaded with RaidWatch 2, the RaidWatch 2 options bug with a library error pointing to HudMap.

Hey there! This Addon is amazing :D
I Downloadad it on monday morning and thought "Hey... would be nice to just hide the hudmap when not beeing in a raid" and about two hours later, there was an update just providing that feature :)

    I have just a few requests/bug reports/questions:
    - SPores at Festergut encounter disappear to early
    - The role icons are not set properly. yesterday in 25-Man-ICC every Warrior was marked as "tank" and only Priests whrer marked as "heals". How does the addon decide who is heal and/or tank?
    - When i tell the addon not to show the raid/party members, it just stops showing anything oO what i mean is, that i have to show the raid member on the Hud to see the shock vortex circles or anything like that... is that working as intended?
    - Is there a way to make circles change their color (to turn red or start flashing) when i'm standing inside? for example the shock-vortex at the blood-council encounter?
  • #87
    - Festergut should be fixed on the next version.
    - Role icons should be fixed in the next version.
    - It should work without party members displayed. I'll see if I can find what's up there.
    - Range checks should already turn red (or some other alert color) when you're in them. :)
