About LanguageCycle

This mod will toggle between Common and the Racial language and offers the functionality to automatically translate Guild/Party chat into Common.

I am not the author of the original mod, full credit for that should go to previous authors who have since disappeared from World of Warcraft or did not want to continue updating this mod.

Mod Authors: aghokala@gmail.com, updated by Nhani of Earthen Ring EU

This mod was just too convenient to give up on and since nobody else updated it I decided to have a go at it myself.

The mod also includes the possibility for a key-binding to toggle spoken language.

Options are set through slash commands. See /lc help for detailed information.

LDB support has now been added.

Thank you for keeping a mod like this going. Its very useful. Saves time and most UI mods hide the chat button that allows you to change language.

So yeah, keep up the good word.

Ever since yesterday's patch (5.4.1) LanguageCycle has been glitching in a way similar to what some other people have described in earlier patches; never stops "loading". If I click on the button, it switches from "Loading" to "Orcish" and stays there no matter how many times I click it afterwards. Typing /lc only says "now speaking Orcish" and never switches over to my racial language (Forsaken).

I've tried it on several different toons on several servers, and it's consistent across all of them (except one lonely little lowbie Night Elf; he's glitching too, but instead of being stuck on the default faction language, for him the button switches to DARNASSIAN and never switches back; everybody else is stuck on Common or Orcish).

I've tried turning all other addons off, no change. And reinstalling hasn't helped. Solutions? This IS such a simple, handy addon, I'll miss it if it's broke.

I'm quite nocturnal a person so I haven't really gotten round to 5.4.1 myself until now.

You're the second one to alert me of an issue with LC however.

I'll be tending to it right away since I do use it myself and the sole reason I've taken it on, what now seems so long ago, was as you say... it's too good to miss.

Seems it was a minor code change.

New version has been released, let me know if there's still a problem with it.

Hi there-- I wrote this mod in 2005 and today I got an email asking about it.  Amazing!  I'm tickled that there are still people using it and updating it for the WoW of 2013.  You are all awesome!

Glad to see you appreciate where I've taken your creation.

Its genious being its simplicity is what makes it pass the test of time for me. Thank you.

    Hey there,

I have reinstalled this addon a couple times, but for some reason it will never stop "LOADING", and typing /lc help doesn't come up with anything. Does this addon conflict at all with MRP, Chinchilla Critter Emote, or UnlimitedChatMessage?

How can I troubleshoot this? I'm excited to use this addon :P

  • #27

I use MRP myself so I'm fairly certain there is no negative interaction with that addon. However LanguageCycle does hook into the default chat function, any addon that tries to do the same may be affected in unpredictable ways. Languagecycle is fairly neutral in what it does since it doesn't really alter anything being sent, but the basic function is intercepted. It always played nice with WIM and such...

My suggestion is to disable the two latter addons you mentioned and see how LanguageCycle behaves without them. If you do find the culprit I'd suggest you contact the author of that addon to see where the chat hook is malfunctioning.

it's strange for you to only have it on specific realms but the fact remains that the code was dirty.

I seem to have been careless in lib calling and it went unnoticed because Buggrabber did it for me.

I release a beta version, 5.3.0c should no longer be affected by this. If you could test it out and let me know if it's fixed. I'll push out a new release if it is.

I get the same endless loading with no other addons, but only on particular servers.  Wyrmrest Accord is one of them.

Quick suggestion if you would be so kind to hear it out. (By the way, do love the usefulness of the addon. I use ElvUI, so there's no button to change my language)

Could you add on the functionality of the LDB plugin, such that it displays the language you're speaking. It would make cleaner UIs for people who wish to use the datatext over the button.

I'm used to the keybind myself actually to swap my language around.

I did at some point plan to make that change myself but since there wasn't any real 'need' for it I never put any time into it.

    I'll see what I can do ;)

I took a stab at it.

Releasing as beta version for 5.1 still, give it a go and let me know how it runs.

I'll probably wait for 5.2 to hit to flag it as release however.

Exactly what I was looking for! Thank you very much for keeping this updated.

New update has been uploaded and is pending approval.Everything should be back in working order for 5.0.4.

Let me know should there still be issues.
