About Learning Aid

Hi guys, I'm working on getting a 1.12 maintenance release out. After that I want to do a refactor and redesign, which will lead to Learning Aid 2.0. This is what I'd like to put in the new versions.

1.12: Make sure everything that's still in works correctly

  • Learning new spells when leveling up.
  • Suppressing chat spam when swapping specs.
  • Searching for missing spells.
  • Putting unlearned and then relearned talent-based spells back where they were.
  • Putting lost and regained guild perk spells back where they were. This is currently disabled because it was causing problems.
  • Newly learned pet and mount detection, which was always kind of broken, got completely broken when the Pet Journal replaced the old moldy Pet and Mount UI. I have removed it.

2.0 and beyond: New, shiny features

  • LDB plugin.
  • Integration with the base UI's level-up display.
  • Filtering of level-up messages.
  • Finer-grained control of automatic placement of newly learned spells on action bars, from turning it off to controlling when and where it happens.
  • Highlighting options for the spellbook, such as making missing spells stand out in some way.

Learning Aid is for all those times when you've just leveled up, retalented, or learned a new trade skill and you've had to page through your spellbook looking for all those new icons. When you learn a new ability or tradeskill, Learning Aid pops up a window with the new ability icon in it, ready to be dragged to your Action Bar.

  1. Learn a new ability!
  2. Drag it to your action bar!
  3. Click the close box to dismiss the window!

You can also shift-click an ability button to create a chat link, just like from the spellbook.

Learning Aid also filters the annoying yellow chat spam you get when swapping talent specs, resetting your talents or learning several talents at once.

Right-click on the window's title to lock the window so it does not move. Learning Aid has a configuration panel in the Interface Options window.

Learning Aid 1.12 Beta 1 is compatible with World of Warcraft 6.0.2.

All new and improved alpha build for Mists of Pandaria! Better late than never? >_>

I used to really like this addon, but with the recent problems of guild perks being removed, constantly being told the guild perks are not on a bar, inability to ignore spells using ctrl-click, I've had to stop using it.

This is one of my main addons. Please update.

It appears that learning aid is removing guild perks, Have Group will travel and Mobil Bank from my action bars.
I disabled all of my addons, put those 2 guild perks on my action bar, logged off/on, off/on, did a /console reloadui. They stayed on the bars.
I enabled learning aid, logged off/on. Both items were removed from my action bars.

I'll do some more testing to make sure blizzard is not removing them which would be the only other possibility since I have disabled all other addons.

I turned off "restore actions" in the addon that appears to have fixed it.

That's very odd, thanks for the report, I'll look into it!

I just tried the latest version.
Ctrl-clicking on an item in the learning aid window (first aid, tailoring, etc) does not change the item to red and does not remove it from the next /la search.

Yeah, the ignore list feature is broken in the current alpha. Workin' on it.

I just uploaded a test version (1.11.1 Alpha 1), if you are having the Guild Perk issue please try it out and see if that fixes it.

That's fixed the mobile banking popping up for me every time I get a loading screen. Woo!
  • #44
...almost. Doesn't happen when taking portals like from Stormwind to Tol Barad, but happens when going into a dungeon.

There is a a guild perk that let's you summon guild party members.
That is also showing up like "Mobile Banking"

Still get the bug with "Mobile Banking". Using the german client. Please... can you try to fix this?

Sorry for the long period of inactivity, but I'm working on a bug fix and general code cleanup version of Learning Aid, probably to be designated 1.11.1 (yay symmetry) to be released before WoW 4.1.0 drops. Also, my guild got Mobile Banking so I can easily test fixes to that problem.

I cannot uncheck the "restore" option. As I like to place buttons where I want them, I find this "feature" extremely annoying. Please enable the UN CHECK option.

As for the annoying mobile banking bug, I just killed my LearningAid.lua file. That solved the problem perfectly.

    1. Thanks for reporting the "restore" option issue, I'll see what's going on.

    2. Um, you... I can't tell if you're joking.
