About Mapster

Mapster is a very simple world map enhacement addon, which was designed to work in conjunction with all other map addons out there. The idea to create Mapster originated from pure lack of a simplistic addon that only modifies the world map, without adding a full scale feature set.

  • Map Style (Scale & Alpha)
  • Coordinates
  • Fog of War removal
  • Enhancement of the raid/party group icons
  • Access to the Instance Maps from anywhere!

You can access the Mapster configuration menu through the new button on the world map, as shown in the screenshot. All features (except the style) can be turned off individually if you do not need/want them.

If you're looking for a replacement to Cartographer, i also recommend the following addons:

I have exactly the same problem as "poiuytreza5" below. If I click on an icon in the quest tracker a window pop up that tells me "Mapster was blocked" and the icon do not react. There are a lot of similar problems with other addons because there are some little mistakes in their codes and Mapster seems to be one ot them.

This is not a mistake from Blizzard! Please try to fix that because it is very annoying!

    - blue areas disappears when you enter combat and won't appear again until UI reload

    - they are actually there, because when you enable transparency when walking you can actually SEE ALL BLUE AREAS, BEHIND the map. My guess is, inheritited strata is messed up.

    I encounter the following problem

addon was blocked because it tried to use a protected funtion to the UI, this happens when I click on the icons in the tracking quest

  • #1162

When you minimize the world map the magnify glass that gives the option to see dig sites is disappearing when you unminimize the world map and will only show again if you do a /reload ui or restart the game.

The flight master pictures that pop up when mousing over them are cute, but the name of the flight path as it appears on the flight map would be more useful.

Here's another odd little issue. Opened up my map and saw that it had been shifted to the left so that the "no border size" I had chosen was almost butted up against the left side of my screen (I run full screen). Fussed with it a bit (think I expanded, then shrank it) to get it back to "normal (centered)." Happened a coiuple of times. Then again, my realm has been very smooth from Sat up until today, when many d/cs and other odd behavior occurred.

Hello, I would like to tell you (the Author of this great, the only updated and available map addon out there), that there is only ONE thing, ONE BUG I cannot find workaround to, no matter how hard i try to modify everything.

BLUE AREAS FOR QUESTS DISSAPEARS.They just randomly and VERY often dissapears to light, light grey I can barely see ot not see at all. I have literally no single idea why.

I am going to donate you once again, generously, if you fix it permanently.

I suspect what is causing this: strata is somehow messed up, when I zoom in map with quest blue area on it and i move it to the border so blue area should be partially hidde, part of the blue area instead of being hidden is presenty next to the map, while the other part (the one on the map) is still hidden. My guess is that blue areas are hidden 'behind the map texture'. I will post screenshot when I have a chance

Also, another problem with the latest build:

Pressing the world map hotkey no longer closes UI windows such as character window, achievements window etc. It's very annoying. Now we have to close them both manually.

  • #1154

Using quest items from objectives is still impossible. I get this error message: "Mapster addon tried accessing functions only available to Blizzard UI" or something along the lines. After I reload, the quest items work until I changed zones.

a more detailed error message (obtained with Swatter running):

    Error occured in: AddOn: Mapster
    Count: 1
Message: Error: AddOn Mapster attempted to call a forbidden function (UseQuestLogSpecialItem()) from a tainted execution path.
    [C]: UseQuestLogSpecialItem()

So basically it's impossible to fix since Blizzard fucked up the API? I heard that the guy who made the addon "Who framed watcher wabbit" somehow fixed this error though.

Yes, very much having the same issue, having to shut down Mapster to use many but not all quest items. Thankas goodness one can re-enable it right in the UI (along with a UI reload... see the Add-Ons button in settings) without having to exit to turn it back on.

Seems to be the same issue with being able to set raid markers...

  • #1155

Im still suffering the same problem.

  • #1152

Not sure if its patch 1.6.1, but I used to use the map *while raiding*, like in SoO, to see a boss, so I could click on his button, to see the strats/drops and whatnot, and what it used to do before is, as I press the button, the Journal would pop up and then I would select the drops tab for example.  The map was closing by itself as the journal pop.

But now when I do the exact same thing, the journal pops BEHIND the map... the map stays there!  There's no use for the map now, as I clicked on the boss-button on the map, the goal is to NOT have to map there anymore, and have the journal.  Why is the map staying there, and OVER the journal window?  Can that be configured back to what it was before?

I'm SO pleased with the option to remove the map's transperacy. Thanks!!

  • #1148

Just updated to 1.6.1 and notice that the map flickers when you are moving and mouse over the map.  It is very distracting.  This is new behavior.  The map fades properly when the mouse is not hovering on the map but as soon as you mouse over the map, it starts flickering at about 60 Hrz.

What is flickering is the outline of faded area when you move.  I noticed this in Pandaria, haven't checked in other zones.

  • #1151

Yes, I nioticed this as well, although mostly what happens to me is when the mouse pointer is over the map, it turns solid. I made it smaller so I have more area around it to have the mouse so that can fly and see where K am going.
