About Marking Bar

MarkingBar is an addon to help players use raid markers in parties and raids. It is designed to be simple and easy to use, while offering a wide variety of options without taking up a lot of memory.

  • Quickly mark and unmark the current target by clicking the symbol you want to assign or remove.
  • Perform a party or raid Ready Check.
  • Perform a Role Check.
  • Announce your current marking system to party or raid chat. These messages can be customized through the gear icon or /mb options.
  • While in a party or raid, place the raid flare/world markers. Note: This cannot be done in combat, and the flares frame will automatically hide when you enter combat.
  • Each frame can be moved anywhere on screen and locked in place.
  • Frames can have the icon order reversed or be stacked vertically.
  • Frames can have the border and background completely hidden.
  • Tooltips can be turned on and off.
  • Tooltips can be turned on or off for announcement messages.
  • Show the frames all the time, or only while you have a target.
  • Show/hide the frames while alone, in a party, or in a raid group.
New BIG Features In Progress, Coming Soon:
  • New flare colors.
  • Keybinding options for all features.
  • Miscellaneous bug fixes and memory improvements.
  • Better options for turning on/off every aspect and fine-tuning when each part is shown.
  • Better options for changing the spacing and look of the frames.
  • (Optional) Data Broker integration.
  • User profile management between characters.
  • Ability to announce strategies to chat for Charms and Flares. (Current functionality is being totally revamped!)
  • Ability to link symbols for charms and flares to add directly to chat.
  • Ability to announce boss strategies and other custom messages to self/party/instance/raid group.

  • code optimization

Version 2.1.2/3

  • removed clear all markers until a solution is found to have it working 100%
  • added Role Poll
  • updated for 5.0.4 recommend to run a /mb reset if you notice strange behavior.

Version 2.1.1

  • Fixed an issues that was causing the "Clear All Icons" feature to crash when clicked repeatedly. Clicking this icon repeatedly is probably still not a great idea, but will no longer cause any game-crashing world-breaking issues. =)

Version 2.1.0

  • Fixed numerous bugs and conflicts.
  • Options frame now properly hidden during cinematics and while pressing Alt+Z
  • Clicking the options gear icon will take you to the MarkingBar Options. Right-clicking the icon will take you directly to the announce options.
  • A button to clear all raid icons has been added.

Version 2.0.4

  • Options interface has been updated to include options for the control frame
  • Fixed announcements conflicting with other chat addons, like Prat
  • Fixed a bunch of bugs where options weren't sticking

Version 2.0.3

  • Fixed taint issues hopefully once and for all. Users will no longer see "Interface action blocked because of an Addon" anymore.
  • The options interface has been integrated into the default Blizzard UI. You can still access the options from /mb or from the gear icon, but you can now also access the options by pressing Esc to bring up the Game Menu>Interface>Addons>MarkingBar.
  • More room to edit announcement text
  • New announcement line to add at the end of the marks
  • New announcement option to add a raid warning message when announcing in a raid
  • New option to add announcement messages to the icon's tooltips. This is especially useful if you can never remember what text you set up and what those pesky icons mean. =)
  • Added option to separate the announcement frame from the raid icons frame
  • The announcement options are now always visible
  • The lock icon for the main Raid Icons has moved from the announcement frame to the raid icons frame
  • World Marker flares are now always hidden in combat, since the ability to set them is protected by Blizzard and you can't set them while in combat anyway.

Version 2.0.2

  • Added more show/hide options for solo, party, and raid
  • Corrected taint issue that was affecting some people
  • Updated version number

    Still waiting for an update.
  • #91
I look forward to it! Thanks for a great add-on.

I am having a terrible time with this add-on. So far I have been told the following add-on's interfere with Marking Bar: Altoholic, Recount, and Omen. Why would these interfere with a marking add-on makes no sense to me.
  • #87
Clicking an icon on the bar while typing in the chat window outputs eg. {skull} for fast custom messages.
  • #86
    - Let us lock/unlock the anchors through the menu. That way we don't have to have the lock button in the bars.
    - Let us customize the borders, from custom skins to completely hiding it.
    - Let us customize the background as well.
  • #88
I like the lock/unlock button. It's easy and works fine. And I don't need customizable skins... if you like to hide the bar take a look at the options in the menu. There are already possibilities when it should be visible.

2nd question: I use Curse Client for Mac. Any idea why the client has 2.1.0 as latest version instead 2.1.1 which is here on the site?
  • #84
Any news on the "Clear All Icons" issue 'hikura' reported?
I have the same problem. When I want to use "Clear All Icons" the addon marks me(!) with all available icons and then freezes the game.
  • #82
I just downloaded and installed the new version 2.1.1 and Wow did not recognize it as an add-on(when I looked at add-ons it does not show up). I have previously had this add-on and it worked fine, so I decided to try your older version 2.1.0. The older version did show up as an add-on. Never could get the flares to work or the announce of the targets in a group (raid works), which would be helpful, but the rest of the add-on works great and I love it. Guess I will stick to 2.1.0 until you can tweak it. :) Thanks for the great add-on.
  • #83
It looks like when you manually download the v2.1.1 is unzips 3 files into the "MarkingBar_v2.1.1" directory. There is no "MarkingBar" directory within that. WoW doesn't recognize this as a valid addon directory. You need to move the files into a directory called "MarkingBar" in the Addon directory for Wow to see it.

also, I noticed that v2.1.1 only contains 3 files, not 4 like v2.1.0 contains. "announceflares.tga" is not present. I am unsure if this was by design or mistake.

I can't use the raid flare/world markers on the ground
  • #76
I also have this problem, You mark everything then press X to clear them all it then marks you as a star and when you click X again to remove it crashes your game.

This happened the first time I tested it after installing, I really like this but seems I'm gonna have to look for another because a crash really isn't worth it : [

If you could fix this that would be awesome I'm sure we are all waiting for it.

    Thanks a lot.
  • #77
The best solution until you fix it would be to remove the clear all[X] button from the marker. It works fine on flares just not on marks.

You can have one mark set and click the big X to clear it first sets you as skull then star then the next click hangs the client.
  • #78
I'll go ahead and remove it for now, but I'll continue to test why it's crashing for some people.
I'm having trouble testing it since it's not crashing for me!
  • #68
I am having a strange problem with the marking bar, if i accidentally click 2 times the cross for clear all the signs the game goes in crash, not sure if is normal but feel like write it here. :V
