Frequently Asked Questions:

Before posting a question, please see the FAQ list at MSBT's portal site.

MSBT is designed to be an extremely lightweight, efficient, and highly configurable mod that makes it easier to see combat information by scrolling the information on the screen in separate, dynamically creatable scroll areas. It is a replacement for Blizzard's Floating Combat Text and Damage output.

  • Lightweight and efficient design.
  • Scroll incoming damage/heals, outgoing damage/heals, and notifications in separate configurable scroll areas on the playing field.
  • Display player and pet cooldown completion alerts.
  • Display loot alerts with a total of how many are now in inventory.
  • Add triggers that will allow you to show notifications based on a variety of conditions.
  • Assign a sound file to play for events/triggers.
  • Dynamically create new scroll areas and assign any event/trigger to them.
  • Customize the position, size, animation style, enabled state, font style, font size, font outline, and opacity for each of the scroll areas.
  • Customize each individual event's color, font style, font size, font outline, opacity, output message, enabled state, and scroll area.
  • Set "Master Font" settings that will be inherited by all of the scroll areas and the events in them unless they are overridden at the scroll area or event level.
  • Merge AoE data into one event with cumulative damage/healing done with number of normal and crits specified.
  • Show overhealing amounts against yourself or party/raid members.
  • Color unit names according to their class.
  • Color damage amounts according to damage type.
  • Show partial effects (resists, absorbs, vulnerabilities, etc) colored according to type.
  • Filter output information with a full suite of spam controls.
  • Load on demand options.
  • For mod developers:
    • Output your own scrolling messages with the MikSBT.DisplayMessage function instead of having to create your own frame and animation code. You can also use your own font by first registering it with MSBT via the MikSBT.RegisterFont function.
    • Create custom animation styles.
    • See the included API.html file for reference information.

Anychance of making the options load on demand to ease up on memory?

  • #2

Is it a SCT like AddOn, or more something like HitsMode? Chat scrollable, after Combat?

  • #3

Yes I plan to make the option Load on demand. I will probably do that in the next version.

Yes it is quite a lot like SCT, except it does incoming and outgoing heals/damage along with the notifications. It also separates them out from each other so it isn't all merged together. By default the damage/heals done TO (incoming) you are on the left, the damage/heals done BY (outgoing) you are on the right and notifications like buff gains/fades, low healh/mana, etc are above your head. Also you can configure each event's font settings and output message individually to say it however you prefer.

Unfortunately I don't have a german client to test it, but I used the global strings that are localized by blizzard to obtain the information the mod uses, so it *should* work with non-English clients. I'll do a little research to see what I can dig up.

  • #4

For a long time now, I'm been using a HUD and running 2 copies of SCT, using one SCT for Incoming over my HUD display, and Outgoing over my target's HUD display. This mod makes things so much simpler now, and I really like the GUI and functionality of the mod a lot more than SCT. I really like how you can change how each type of data is displayed right in the GUI, in order to do that with SCT, you had to edit the event config file.

The only thing I've discovered I don't like about this mod is the sticky crits. Please add an option to unsticky the crits, I hate having my crit spells taken out of the "scroll order", I use a bolder, larger, and different font for crits, I don't need it stickied as well, ruining the order of my scolling combat log.

Thanks for the awesome improvement over SCT.

  • #5

Thanks for the feedback. The option to disable sticky crits should be in the next revision. I was contemplating adding it to the initial release, but I didn't get around to it.

  • #6

SCT is history now. Good work!

  • #7

Very nice mod, can't wait for the load on demand options. Would be nice to have an option to seperate damge over time spells from direct damage spells.

  • #8

It's a very nice addon and I like it to use.

One question I have: (It's possible that I'm not clever enough)

How can I save the settings I did?

If I log out it always resets the settings.

(I use the german version of WoW)

  • #9

is there any way to have it announce when execute is available? that's the one thing i liked about sct

EDIT: i see it in MikCombatEventLib.lua, but execute doesnt show up in the config on the notifications tab under Low Mana like in the lua

  • #10

Thanks for all the feedback folks.

    @Kebinusan and Spotzel:

That's a good idea with adding Damage over Time and Heals over time as separate events. I should be able to get that into the next revision.

Also spotzel, I don't have the problem with the English client. It's probably due to the verbiage used in the German client. I'll have to look through the German localization files to figure something out.

Somehow when I added the profile options the save ability messed up. I'll be uploading a minor revision in the short term to fix the saving issue.

At the moment you can't do that, but as you can tell from seeing it in the code it is planned.

First: Great MOD ! - I love it, it rules all similar mods.

However I found a bug i suppose: I am playing with the german wow-client and my Spellcrits arent recognized as crits. The mod will corretly see the spell (eg "1000dmg (Feuerball)") but it will neither be sticky nor change the font for it.

  • #12

Reading through the rest of the comments I like to add: German client version running fine so far - except for SpellCrit recognition. Melee Crit worx for me =)

  • #13

Any way you could add in Shaman support for damage totems? Being able to see my Searing Totem, Magma Totem, and Fire Nova AOE totals would be nice. :)

BTW, love that your mod totals up Chain Heal, but there is a slightly annoying 'feature', for Chain Heal it only shows the name of the person getting the last bounce. Do you think it would be possible to get additional ways to display Chain Heal to show the name/healed of each bounce and then the total, or at least change the name to the first person the Chain Heal is cast on?

  • #14

Could you change 'Gain Buff' and 'Lose Buff' to 'Gain Buff','Lose Buff','Gain Debuff', and 'Lose Debuff', I like having my 'lose buff' bigger so i know when to recast :-P, but i dont paticularlly care about losing debuffs :-P, Love the mod, keep it up :-)

  • #15

One other option I thought about, it would be nice to color code damage by spell type. Right now all outgoing damage is the same color.. I think this would spice it up a bit.
