MSBT is designed to be an extremely lightweight, efficient, and highly configurable mod that makes it easier to see combat information by scrolling the information on the screen in separate, dynamically creatable scroll areas. It is a replacement for Blizzard's Floating Combat Text and Damage output.

  • Lightweight and efficient design.
  • Scroll incoming damage/heals, outgoing damage/heals, and notifications in separate configurable scroll areas on the playing field.
  • Display player and pet cooldown completion alerts.
  • Display loot alerts with a total of how many are now in inventory.
  • Add triggers that will allow you to show notifications based on a variety of conditions.
  • Assign a sound file to play for events/triggers.
  • Dynamically create new scroll areas and assign any event/trigger to them.
  • Customize the position, size, animation style, enabled state, font style, font size, font outline, and opacity for each of the scroll areas.
  • Customize each individual event's color, font style, font size, font outline, opacity, output message, enabled state, and scroll area.
  • Set "Master Font" settings that will be inherited by all of the scroll areas and the events in them unless they are overridden at the scroll area or event level.
  • Merge AoE data into one event with cumulative damage/healing done with number of normal and crits specified.
  • Show overhealing amounts against yourself or party/raid members.
  • Color unit names according to their class.
  • Color damage amounts according to damage type.
  • Show partial effects (resists, absorbs, vulnerabilities, etc) colored according to type.
  • Filter output information with a full suite of spam controls.
  • Load on demand options.
  • For mod developers:
    • Output your own scrolling messages with the MikSBT.DisplayMessage function instead of having to create your own frame and animation code. You can also use your own font by first registering it with MSBT via the MikSBT.RegisterFont function.
    • Create custom animation styles.
    • See the included API.html file for reference information.

No that is not currently an available animation style. It is on my list of things to get done though. It will probably go in some time around WotLK.

I'll probably get around to it at some point, but for now I'm more focused on getting all the enhancements done I have planned for WotLK. It's fully functional in the beta at the moment, but there are several things I want to get done like new animation styles and pet/item cooldowns.

It would be nice to see another video made about how to use all the features in this mod since it can get a little confusing at times.

No pressure I understand it takes alot of time to make and mantian this mod not to mention have a life just saying it would be nice =P

Heya Mik, when most my addons went kaboom with their settings somehow.
I thought I'd give your mod a try after a friend mentioned it. One thing I'd like to know is, has anyone(or yourself heh) created an animation style of 'angled away'. SCT has this. Basically text starts at a position then either angles up/down and away from the center of the screen. Kinda like the default parabola except the text doesn't come back in again :D
  • #640

Take a look at the Mace Stun entry under the "Example Triggers" section of the included readme.html file. You would just need to change the skill name to "Nature's Grasp". It *IS* case sensitive so make sure you are using a capital N and G.
  • #639
hey there. hands down the best mod EVER!!
one thing I cannot figure out is a trigger for when my target gains Nature's grasp. I have it set up as aura-nature's grasp trigger but it aint working.

can u tell me how I can set up a trigger specifically just for when my target gains nature's grasp?
    thanks a lot!

Combat Text also becomes checked. If it doesn't, check that as well.

There are no shared libs, but I imagine what is going on is the HUDs are mucking with frame levels to "insert" themselves under all other frames. MSBT's options are load-on-demand meaning they don't exist until you invoke them, so the frame levels are probably "out of sync" due to the HUD addons doing something they really shouldn't be.

I've been working on an options rewrite for WotLK that should not be susceptible, but for now, I would suggest disabling the HUD to get your setup the way you want it, then re-enabling them.

Interrupts are a main event type of "Skill Interrupts". You would then just need to setup the correct affiliations, skill name, or other conditions. The readme.html included with the mod has full documentation on how triggers work and how to set them up which will do a far better job explaining than any short response I could give here.
  • #637 can i set interrupt as a new trigger? i want it to pop up like sheep broken or blackout..etc.. help? plx

    Hey Mik

This is an awesome add-on. I am having problems though. I turn on "Use blizzards heals" but it doesn't work? If I turn off the healing notes for Miks, I just don't see heals at all. Any help?
  • #635

    Yes Mikk..

I am using the most recent version and IceHud and Metahud are both causing a horible problem in using the settup options for this addon.

Are there any shared library files being used here?
i mean between those 2 addons adn yours?

Thats all i can think would be causing the error, because if i disable both HUD's and launch... your addon works perfectly.
    If i enable either one..

The options panel of yours is completely unusable, cant see chackmarks, cant see buttons, words are half there... its so sad cause ive been playing for 3 weks or so now without your addon, and i feel so low class!!!

    can you help?

  • #634

It sounds like you might have another mod conflicting with the command or the options module isn't installed. You can try to access it through the built-in interface options panel. If you get an error message there, it's likely the MSBTOptions module isn't installed.

It should be doable though there would probably be some limitations and certain situations where it might not be 100% accurate.

  • #165

Thanks for the compliments. Some form of sound alerts will probably make it in a future version, but it might be a bit as right now I'm rather busy.

To your second point, actually Blink *is* a buff albeit a very short one. When you blink, a buff is applied that makes you immune to stuns for a very short time (like 1 second or so). What you are seeing is the buff being gained and then the buff fading. If you don't want to see it, you can simply create a new suppression of: %[Blink%]

Even if you were specifically looking for "Mark's frostbolt hits Mark for 900." as you suggest, that still means that you have to search through all the damage done to everyone else by everyone else as I originally stated. Theoretically you could do if for a short time after you actually reflect something, but that leads to a bigger issue...

There is no guarantee that you would see the reflect message before the message of the person hitting themselves for damage in order to start looking for it. I know it seems odd, but there is some fuzzy timing that Blizzard uses to accommodate for client/server travel time and lag. If you've ever noticed, sometimes it'll say something like "You have slain player.", then on the next line. "Your Mortal Strike crits Player for 2800 damage." The damage must have come before the actual death, but it doesn't always get reported that way. Your own hits are always in order because they are sent to the server in order, and damage happening to you is also sent to your client in order. Things start getting a little fuzzy when it involves waiting on a response from other players.

Also it wouldn't always be 100% accurate because what if someone else reflects his spell too in the case of an AoE? Then which one of those mark hits himself messages are yours?

Anyways, you can simply modify the message format for incoming spell reflects under the Events tab in MSBT's options to display it with the caster name as well. %n will be the name of the caster whose spell is being reflected.

  • #164

Sorry to bug you more, but if I literally wanted to display that I reflected a spell(so it showed '(castername)'s (spellname) reflected!') in one lua file, what code would do that? I don't understand programming enough to be able to find it in your code.

    Thanks for any pointers.

  • #163

"The only way that I can think of to do that would be highly inefficient since it would entail parsing all the damage done to everyone else by everyone else...."

Wouldn't it be possible to somehow 'search' for the damage? So if Mark's frostbolt is reflected, couldn't you make it check for frostbolts hitting mark? And would it register as 'mark's frostbolt hits mark for 900'?

I've really no idea, but this mod is the only one I've found so far that even tells you what spell got reflected. I wanted to make my own to do just this(since I'm happy with my interface in every way) but have no idea what to do, beyond making the toc file =(

  • #242

Mikk - Thanks, thats great news. So far the missing sunder message is my only "complaint" about your mod. I'm using it anway and just watching target debuffs atm.

Great mod... keep up the fantastic work!

  • #243

Mikk thanks for the answer. Extra thanks for keeping alive and kicking this very useful add on :) Dunno if Seal Fate registers in the log will check out today.
