Mistra's Diablo Orbs

Mistra's Diablo Orbs provides the user with a clean, aesthetically pleasing, and functional center piece for monitoring player health and mana. The orbs are fully fleshed-out, with smooth animated fillings, and multiple textures.

This addon provides the following:

  • Health and Mana Orbs - each with full custom user colorization and several textures to choose from.
  • A Pet Orb - one compact unit to monitor pet health/mana, aesthetically matching the health and mana orbs.
  • Power tracking - Monks, Shadow Priests, Paladins, Warlocks, Rogues, and Feral druids will have a power tracking frame that will animate whenever their resource is capped. (Holy Power, the various forms of Soul Shards, combo points, etc)
  • Plethora of options - Users are able to pick their own colors and formatting whenever they want via a new, easy-to-use GUI.
  • No third party libraries - This addon is usable from the get-go, out of the box, and looks good without requiring heavy configuration.
  • Accessible author - I'm the same guy who made the oUF_D3Orbs_Lightweight addon, and I'm always available for thoughts on improvements, additions, and bug reports.

Q & A

  • Q: How do I change my orb colors?
    • A: There are a couple of ways for you to access the orb menu. You can type /mdo in the chat window and press Enter, or you can click on the Minimap Button.
  • Q: How do I move things around?
    • A: Simply hold shift, and click and drag any orb or frame around. You can move things to your heart's content!
  • Q: Can I disable the Pet Orb, or any other element of the orbs?
    • A: Yes, of course. The only elements you cannot disable are the Health and Mana orbs. Every additional frame is a user choice, and is up to you to use!
  • Q: My health dropdown is acting funny, I can't seem to find the "Combat" option. What gives?
    • A: Dropdowns are a tad finicky in WoW. While I look into this issue, you can get around it by simply selecting the "Mana Orb" option, and then re-selecting "Health Orb." It'll show up!

    Hi! I love this addon but I have 1 thing I would like to see added. Is it possible to make it so it notes when you are flagged for pvp? (like could have the artwork change, or add a small note in the orbs or some such). I like to level up on PVE/RP servers perma-flagged (much more interesting pvp that way) and I constantly forget to reflag myself after I'm in a town for 5 mins (sad I can't stay perma-flagged no matter what anymore).

    Right now I don't know anything telling me when I'm flagged (have the default health bar hidden).

    I've just uploaded a small update.

    1. Mistra's Diablo Orbs is now compatible with the latest WoW version (6.1)
    2. A menu option to disable the orb-value smoothing has been added.
    3. Several bugs have been fixed.

     

    I plan on a larger update to add a lot of quality of life stuff in the next few weeks.

    Hi, great addon! I was wondering if there was a way to remove the orb and just have artwork? Here's a screenshot of what I'm going for with it.

    With no other addons enabled, I'm getting erratic model behavior seen here: http://youtu.be/2L3lwcPf_hU

    If I hit Alt-Z to hide the UI, the problem goes away. Any ideas?

    Hmm.  Odd.  Something is corrupting the position the bones in that animation are being set to, and clearly it's something in your UI.  This could be a few things.  It's not going to be caused by any one specific "addon".  All rendered elements in addons are sanitized through WoW's API (all external 2D images) and rendered through their rendering pipe.  Unfortunately, the likely cause of this is either bad RAM, or bad GPU RAM.

    I actually had this same issues when WoD launched, and since then have had extensive LUA issues and had ot reinstall all of my mods, and completely revamp my UI. Have not had the erratic models occur since then.

    Using the default unit frames, this addon seems to cause the 'target of target' to fail.

    As a followup, I'm unable to replicate this issue... can you post some info about the addons you use?

    Is there any way to remove the kinda slow animation on the bars after I lose/gain a big amount of health/resource?

    For example, in boss fights you can receive a single hit for 50% of your health, and the health globe will slowly go to 50% (decreasing the percentage slowly, showing all number from 100 to 50). The same happens with the resource globe, as when we cast a spell or use a skill with high resource cost. In these cases, it's important to know ASAP the new values, and not waiting for the bar to reach this value. In the animation time you can even receive another 50% hit and die.

    Another example for this is when I log in and it slowly fills from 0% to 100%. An option to disable the animation of a big health/resource gain/loss would be awesome, at least for me.

    And another problem I had with the addon was in Kromog battle, in Blackrock Foundry. In the Rune of Crusing Earth phase (when a lot of small hands appear on the ground and get you), the addon scared me two or three times when it showed the low health of the hand, and not the health of my character. Maybe the addon shows the vehicle battle (even though the hand is considered an anemy), so it would be good to have an option to always show player health, not changing to vehicle.

     

    After all, I found this addon really great, and I'm currently using it, but these points are really annoying for me.

    Edit: if there's any way for me to "do it myself" to solve the first problem, changing the lua code, help will be appreciated. :)

    Good point on the vehicle thing.  I'm currently capturing the event that fires indicating that the player is in a vehicle, but I'm not checking to see if you are in control of that vehicle.  In this next update I am going to make that check when the event is captured, and if you are in control of that vehicle, your health value will display the vehicle's health, otherwise nothing will happen.

    Oh yes.  That is the first thing coming here shortly - an option to either use the smooth interpolation of the orbs, or not.  Many have complained about it, and even I get annoyed when I take a huge hit and can't tell for a little bit.

    The way it should be done, ideally, is to watch for really big hits, and disable the interpolation if your health drops a certain amount.  This would satisfy that requirement, I believe.

    any chance you could change the orbs to function more like a unit frame, so they could be used with Clique?

    Maybe ad a lock/unlock function to the customization menu?

    I really love the orbs,  but I have lot of functions bound to Clique (mainly on my healer, but other things like my warlock's soulstone, or tricks of the trade etc.), which I always try to instinctively clique on the orb. it'd be awesome if these could be made to work along with it.
