About MyRolePlay

MyRolePlay is a roleplaying UI AddOn for World of Warcraft, developed by Etarna at moonshyne.org. It lets you make a roleplaying “profile” about your character that other users of MyRolePlay (and other compatible “MSP” RP AddOns) can see in the tooltip and a more detailed window. It’s fast, light, and powerful.

  • Spot other roleplayers at a glance, see which RP AddOns they are using, and get a quick overview of their character in the tooltip!
  • Change your character’s name; add a last name—or whatever you wish!
  • Mark your preferred style of roleplaying (casual, full–time, beginner, or a custom style…), or your status (in character, out of character, being a storyteller…)
  • Exercise your creativity further—describe your character’s appearance! Eye colour, height, weight…
  • Give people a taste of your character’s story, if you wish—add biographical information like their age, hometown, birthplace, and maybe even some tidbits of history to make people hungry to discover more by interacting with your character and roleplaying with you? Or hide others’ biography, if you prefer to discover that kind of thing through interaction.

What if your character’s appearance changes, say when they wear different clothes, or shapeshift into different forms? No problem: simply add another ‘profile’, and just change the fields you want to be different in that alternate profile. Select freely between the default and alternate profiles to suit your character’s mood, dress, form and so on! If you name a profile after an equipment set (Blizzard’s, ItemRack or Outfitter) or a form (druid, shaman, warlock, priest or worgen) MyRolePlay can even automatically change profile for you when you switch!

MyRolePlay has tremendous scope for creativity. It’s extremely fast and flexible—a roleplaying AddOn that lets you express your character however you wish! Use it as an aid to roleplaying, fleshing out your character’s “feel” or just helping you stumble into more roleplay… how you choose to use it is up to you!

Editing your profiles

Bring up the Character Sheet (“C” by default), and select the new MyRolePlay tab underneath. Click on a field to edit it.

Alternate profiles management: + to add a new alternate profile, - to delete or clear the profile, R to rename it. Fields that appear dimmed out are ‘inherited’ from the default profile—simply select to Change the fields you want to modify from that.

Further options (such as a choice of units to display height/weight) can be found in the Interface Options, AddOns tab, under MyRolePlay.

Where can I see other people’s details?

When you mouseover someone who has MyRolePlay (or another compatible roleplaying addon), you’ll see some of the extra roleplaying details they added in the tooltip, plus if they use MRP or another RP AddOn such as GHI (GryphonHeart Items) or T (Tongues), which is a handy hint that they're a roleplayer!

Want more information about their character than the tooltip provides, like the full description or history (where applicable)? Target them and click on the “MRP” information button that appears by the target frame, to browse their profile in a resizeable description window. (Or set a key combination in Key Bindings to bring up that window, or: /mrp show <charactername> or just /mrp show when you have them targeted.) You can target yourself and view your own profile as it appears to others in there, if you like, and if you want to move the MRP button, right-click to unlock it, drag it where you want it, and right–click again to lock it in place.

(Users are reminded that your RP profiles are public content which may be seen by other players and Blizzard, and are subject to the Terms of Use, and policies of the realm(s) you play on. Please have fun and remember to exercise your creative freedom responsibly and respectfully.)

TOC bump for patch 5.3. No compatibility changes seem to have been necessary this time around.

Ello' ! Thanks a whole lot for a awesome addon through several years! :3

I have a question though - is there a difference in the code or something between MRP and TRP2 that makes sure we can't see the entire "currently" that the other part has? I know the length of the "currently" wich they (TRP2 users) can write down is insane, but some times it might be useful information that they think you should know, yet can't possibly see due to this limitation.

From the Known Caveats section (which doesn't seem to show on Curse at the moment?):—

    • Long “Currently” fields (as in TotalRP2) don’t show up well in MRP’s tooltip or browser. I’d like to fix that, but it does require rewriting the tooltip and browser to do it… maybe later.

    Ah, alright, thanks :3

    Re: MRP update?

Maybe new update, I've recently updated via Curse Client. But this does not work.. Maybe I need to wait for you to work on this?

I'd love to have a keyboard command to change my Character Status and Currently settings, e.g:

/mrp currently <blahblah> to set the 'currently' text to <blahblah>.

/mrp currently Tired would change it to 'Tired' or /mrp currently Hello world! wouuld change it to 'Hello world!'.

And /mrp ic and /mrp ooc to toggle In Character and Out of Character (at least; ideally also lfc and st for Looking for Contact and Storyteller).

And, of course, confirmation text in the chatbox.

This was always something that was on my roadmap. Thanks for reminding me; it's made it into the 5.2 build!

    Loving it. Thank you. :)

I've got the same issue Krusula and Terigen have, where I accidentally pulled the box so far open it's out of the frame of my screen. No amount of adjusting the resolution or UI is able to bring it back into frame, and so I can neither expand/contract the box when I view another's profile, nor can I toggle over to their history tab. Is driving me bonkers! Plaise halp!

Also, thank you for an awesome add-on ;)

    AHA, FOUND THE FIX!

For anyone else having this issue, Etarna answers it in an earlier post:

    /mrp browser reset

    Cheers!

Happily, as of MyRolePlay 5.2.0.101 (shortly to be released), this, the single most common support request for MyRolePlay, will longer be necessary. The browser will now automatically reset to default size & position when this happens—or on load, if this unfortunate state of affairs was saved from the last session (so everyone suffering from this bug should be auto-fixed as of updating to 5.2!).

As a post–mortem, here is why it actually happened.

    • The Blizzard sizing control—StartSizing()/StopMovingOrSizing()—keeps resizing while you hold down the button, and automatically follows the user’s mouse movements.

Sounds fine? Nothing wrong with that, surely? …well, there is one little issue:—

    1. If you try to reduce the size below the SetMinResize() minimum (wihch is the default size, 338×424), the window refuses to get smaller. Good. But…
    2. …if you then move the mouse in the bottom-right direction, the window gets bigger—immediately, because it tracks the mouse movements, not actually where the mouse pointer is
    3. …making it possible to accidentally try to size the window bigger than the screen…
    4. …upon which it butts up against that (because it’s ClampedToScreen)…
    5. …upon which the (internal) ClampToScreen function moves the Frame towards the top-left to try to keep the whole thing onscreen and from going off the bottom-left…
    6. …but it’s now too big for even that, so all hell breaks loose, Elder Gods invade, Twisting Nether madness, etc, etc, etc and you now have the mother of all frames obstructing your entire UI, leaving you stumbling around blind while the rest of Azeroth laughs at your misfortune (and, where appropriate, ganks you).

Don't blame me: Blizzard wrote that sizing control! It’s the exact same one used in the EditFrames! (Go ahead, try it out—the same bug is present there!) However, the EditFrames always use it with a pretty small maximum size—far too small for it to ever actually go off-screen, so it never got really bad there, so they never really noticed (and probably don’t really care).

What did I do to patch it? Simple: when you release the button, check if it’s freaked out and gone offscreen: and if so, just reset it to sane defaults.

May I suggest a way to reset the location and size of the MRP window, when you inspect other's MRP? You see, I've encountered several people who accidently have increased the size of MRP to beyond that of their screen, making them unable to switch between the biography and description page. Giving it a 'Reset' button would make so, that such mistakes easily can be corrected.

  • #766

I second this. SO much hehe. It's killing me that I can no longer resize the box, or even toggle over to people's history tab.

  • #764

Alright, I used MRP, and I tried to change the size of my window, and it ended up making the window stretch all the way up my screen, and I am unable to go to the biography page or change the side of the window. How do I fix this?

Hello, I have recently re downloaded MRPas I have started plaing WoW and RPing again. Whenever I open up MRP, I cannot edit any information on this at all. Can't edit anything in it. I have tried uninstalling all of my add ons except for MRP. Doesn't work to uninstall and re install via Curse Client, Vi WowMatrix, or by manually doing it. I literally cannot edit anything, and neither can my two friends who just installed it.

I just got a new computer and I had to reinstall MRP and i was wondering if there was a way I wouldn't have to like rewrite my whole MRP for all my toons. That'd be really annoying.
