About NickAlert

Nick Alert scans incoming chat messages and alerts you when they contain one of your character names, nicknames, and triggers that you set up. It can also alert you to incoming whispers from specified people, or to Real ID messages from specified people. It can also alert you to people coming online and offline.

The nicks are saved per server. The scanning is case insensitive so that Tocar == TOCAR == tocar==Tocardamus so no matter how they type it is should match.

The triggers are saved per account and match case and lua regexs.

Nick Alert can output to MikScrollingBattleText if installed, its own moveable alert frame, play a sound to alert you, and even flash the edges of the screen, the alert frame is moveable (Left Button) and resizable (Right Button) while the frame is unlocked. Once the frame is locked all mouse input is passed through to whatever is under the frame

To use a custom sound file for the alert you need to make a directory called "\Interface\AddOns\NickAlert_CustomSounds" in the WoW directory and put your file called alert.mp3 or alert.ogg into it before you start WoW

  • for mp3 type "/nalert custommp3 on"
  • for ogg type "/nalert customogg on"

commands can be accessed by typing "/nalert"
"/nacf" will take you to the channel filter options. This filter is a whitelist for channels like "Trade" "Local Defense" "General" and such. If they are not in the list you will not be alerted about them

The Throttle function to stop people from sound spamming you is configurable from 1 to 60 in seconds and 1 to 60 alerts in that time before they don't alert you ( so, from 1 alert a minute up to 360 or just off ). ALL alerts are governed by the throttle. If ChatDebug is set on then it will display info lines on the throttle for feedback and setting it up

Also now has a control panel in with all the other ones and a sub panel for nickname management and chat channel management

New commands have been added

  • /nanl cmd option - Nick Alert NickList nicknames/ triggers the addon will scan the chats for add/rem/display/cfg
  • /nawl cmd option - Nick Alert Whisper List on/off/add/rem/display/cfg turn on/off the whisper alert feature and manage who it will alert you for
  • /nacf cmd option - like above but manages the channel filter list
  • /nabn cmd option - Real ID settings on/off/cfg
  • /namf cmd - manage the message frame on/off/lock/unlock

the cmd "cfg" will open the control panel to that lists specific page

all are available from the rewritten control panel plugin

how evil...   something is amiss... I had it do that and reloaded and the problem disappeared (before I uploaded it)... I thought it was just a strange glitch...

some of the options have been defaulted off since the options were put in... I havn't changed them in some time... I will try and figure out what the sometimes error that is messing with the frame is

  • #47

Great, will test it asap. Was already wondering why I see debug stuff and how to disable it^^ Thanks :)

Edit says I found some things in this new version:

    - some functions arent enabled by default, "nick alert" is shown in a small white font where the frame is supposed to be, frame cant be unlocked aka command doesnt work and the frame cant still be moved via dragging the "nick alert" around. Its like an invisible frame that is ontop of everything you drag it onto.

If you´re updating to the latest version, you´re gonna have a bad time.

Its broke again for battlenet contacts. Outline and alert for my toon works.

  • #39

OK... I think I found the problem... when it got changed to support the toasts, the event handler got re-written so the bn chat events needed to be moved as well

you should not have to delete the settings... I try to never make breaking changes to the settings (although I did have to once)

but THIS fix should re-enable the battle net alerts(battle net messages do not get scanned for nick names)

also unless debug is on, your saying your name will not trigger an alert

I would test this fix if I could but moving is such a pain in the ... I despise moving... it is such a pain...

  • #42

Tested and doesnt work for bnet contacts or own toon names.

Can you create profiles so we can reset them after each update? Makes it easier to find errors maybe. And I dont have to remake them everytime I delete the lua for all chars.

should be fixed... I can't test it atm though... but you can :)

The update has been posted, with the requested text outlines... let me know if you want thicker outlines (WoW has 3 settings no outline, standard outline, and thick outline)... Perhaps I will make an option to control the outline from within the addon...

It also has requested online/offline toasts, and the color changing Real-ID / Battle-Tag config buttons

    Awesome work with the outline.

As for the online/offline feature... I dont know. Since I set the default popup for such messages to pop up for a few seconds, its rather "disturbing" in the middle of my screen. Good thing I can turn it off :)

    Thanks again :)

  • #37

it was requested, and almost fit in with what the addon does so I implemented it...

  • #33

I´m using prat for a very long time and I have an outline set up so the chat is not killing my eyes. Is it possible to set up something like this for NA aswell?

  • #34

I will see what I can come up with... I am in the process of moving right now so it may be a bit... I still have to release the update that puts toasts into the alert frame (only online/offline) The update is on my PC which is spread across several (2 ) cities lol. It will also have color changing buttons on the real-id / battle-tag page so you won't have to rely on just the asterisks to mark the alerted people anymore...

  • #30

I havent used NA for awhile and its not doing anything. I deleted the settings, updated to the newest version and added the battle.net name, char names I like to see but nothing comes up. I´m using prat and set it to not show the real id/battletag, but the char name currently whispering me instead. I reversed those settings and no change.

Is this a prat problem? Or are there very specific settings I should use with the latest versions?

  • #32

I believe I have found all the changes... again...  It even seems to work for me... if only someone would message me    lol

  • #31

is it not working at all?   Blizz messed with the battlenet features a bit but I think it should support battle tags... do other chat types alert for you or is it all... I know it was having problems not unmarking a person for alerts (which I have fixed... just need to release)

The battle tag alerts are on the same tab as the battle net real-ids and should work... I will do some testing on them to see.
