About Note Announcer

A small tool to help remember details about your guild members, particularly alts.

When a guild member logs in, it will display a message under the announcement. The message will include the guild member's Rank, and public notes for that member.

If you have friend notes for that member, it will also display them.

    Any plans for officer notes?
  • #7
    Definately, Yes.

However, since i am not an officer in my guild, i was not able to test it for this initial release. I plan on adding it and getting the officers in my guild to test it this next go around.

I am not an officer in my guild, but am at a high rank that I can read officer notes if you need someone else to test it.

    Thank you Davie3,

It has been added to 0.2 - let me know if it isnt working.

0.2 seems to be working just fine with Officer Notes.

As of 0.1.3 - using the curse client to download the addon will work as intended.

This is a great addon, it works perfectly for me. Good work Mortur and keep up the good work! Also Trinkalou don't blam this addon for your problems there are 2 files in this download one is a small table with info and the other is the script. No where in the addon files does it even hint that it's going to do anything malicious, Open it with note pad if you don't believe me.

Thank you Cornholie0 for verifying this for me.

I have some large plans for this and future addons!

This addy sounds good in name and description but not in practice...at least not with the 1st incarnation (0.1). It kept crashing wow on us...when !swatter picked it up, it immediately shut it down. I went into take it out of my addons file and from the zip file I keep my back up zips in and it took 4 1/2 minutes for windows to win and not get shut down. With it in recycle bin...finally....I clicked disk clean to get rid of it and windows was almost shut down again. It also tried to shut mcafee down when I tried to virus scan after deleteing it from my comp. I am afraid that I am NOT going to be even trying the 2nd incarnation. I just spent 27 hours fighting with the first one to get it totally irradicated. I have no idea what will happen if I try the new and improved one.

This is my first addon - and still trying to get things straight with it.

First - I want to make clear that this addon is only 2 files - the TOC file and one LUA file. To remove the addon, all you have to do is delete the folder from your addons directory. I apoligize that it took so long to disable.

It does not save any data - it only reads what is in the friends list / guild log. As such, it should not cause any kind of problems with windows or other system files.

Due to the way that bizzard makes you lookup guild member and friend details, I have to loop through each member and check the name, and was afraid that things might lock up if these numbers were huge. But all of my tests have shown this not to be an issue so far - with many members of my guild not having any problems so far.

Would you mind answering a couple of questions?

    1) Do you have the Swatter error? That would help immensely.
    2) How many people do you have in your friend list and guild?

Version 0.1.1 fixed a bug if there was no friend notes when someone logged. That was causing a known issue from swatter, but would not have caused the game to crash.

Thank you for your feedback! I hope to get this fixed up so that people dont experience any issues like the one you had!
