About _NPCScan.Overlay

If you care at all about my wishes, you won't download this AddOn from SolidIce: They are leeching it from the site I actually choose to put it on.

NPCScan.Overlay is an addition to _NPCScan that adds map overlays for rare mob patrols. When you search for a rare in _NPCScan, _NPCScan.Overlay will show where it patrols until you find it. It works similarly to keithgabryelski's Rare Spawn Overlay's , but supports the minimap and has a much smaller download size, along with a few new features.

Special thanks to Rare Spawn Overlay's patrol paths and Routes minimap drawing code for inspiration!

Note: _NPCScan.Overlay can integrate with _NPCScan if you have installed it, but make sure to keep both up to date if you do use both!

Details

World Map

In addition to drawing paths on the World Map, _NPCScan.Overlay adds a key to a corner of the window with each rare's name. It only appears in zones that have rare maps, like Netherstorm as seen in the screenshot. Hovering over a mob's name in the key will cause the mob's path on the map to start flashing. If you need to read something under the key, it can be toggled by Clicking on the Key Toggle button on the map. The key can be repositioned by just moving your mouse over top of it while holding the shift key and the key will jump to a different corner.

Most map mods like Atlas will inherit the key and overlays from this module. Even Carbonite's map display will show them.


Battlefield Minimap

The small “Battlefield Minimap” (AKA the “Zone Map”) also shows mob paths.


Minimap

All shapes and sizes of minimaps are supported. Rotating minimaps work fine as well.

One feature not shown in the screenshot is a thinner 100 yard range ring around your character. It helps you gauge _NPCScan's detection range, so you can sweep through zones more effectively. This option can be found in the Minimap subsection of the options panel, detailed below.


Options

_NPCScan.Overlay's options can be found under _NPCScan's main options menu, under _NPCScan > Overlay or as its own entry of _NPCScan.Overlay if _NPCScan isn't installed. This panel can be opened with the “/npcscanoverlay slash command, or “/overlay” for short.

The “Always show all paths” checkbox at the top of the pane overrides the instructions of NPC tracking mods like _NPCScan to hide unused paths, and always displays all known paths instead.

The rest of the configuration pane lists each map display's options. You can enable/disable each map from here, as well as configure individual settings for them.

Each map display can have its overall transparency set independently with the “Alpha” slider, so that it doesn't obscure the maps themselves.

    Was wondering as well if you could add a kill count as well for the rares and the time it was killed and found and maybe deaths this could make a new feature

    There is some sort of delay bug

    I think it might be something to do with the colour it shows

    E.g

    On the overlay it might be green but it will come up with a blue colour instead

    There seems to be a bug where it delays in showing the rare that has been found not all rares do it but some do delay in showing it

    I have tried al kinds of things and I cant get the npc scan window to open for me. also its very hard trying to find the place to reset the cache so I will still get the alarms when i am near an npc

    I use this batch file to start wow. It deletes the creature cache file (only) when run. When WoW updates, it will delete the batch file, so keep a spare copy somewhere.

    Create a text file in your WDB directory (On my Win7 x64, it's: C:\Program Files (x86)\World of Warcraft\Cache\WDB\enUS )

    Name it whatever you want.bat (I use 'creaturecache.bat') and put the following text in it:

    del creaturecache.wdb
    "C:\Program Files (x86)\World of Warcraft\World of Warcraft Launcher.exe"

    That path is to my install's location of the launcher, again on Win7 x64. You'll need to find your own. Save the file (make sure you make a copy somewhere outside that folder) and make a shortcut on your desktop. This resets the creature cache every time you start, so NPCScan will always pick up the rares, once per launch. (Anything cached will remain cached until you log out and back with the batch file.)

    I would like to see overlays for the hunter challenge tames too... But what I would really like is for the Pandaria rares, the ones for the achievement Glorious!, to match in colors. So that all the Mogu champions are one color, all the Pandaren another, all the Jinyu a third, and so on. Keeping it the same from zone to zone. Right now it looks like they're picked randomly. Each zone as far as I can tell only has one champion of each race. so it really shouldn't be a problem. Or maybe if the color changes aren't possible putting a race tag after each name?

    Good evening. Thank you for your addon. I wanted to ask, it is possible that after the discovery of a rare creature on the map overlay is not lost until it's time until you close the pop-up window with the name of the detected mob?

    I enabled "Scan for rares you dont need" and now i can't disable it. 

    Basicly it shows ALL rares in the zone instead of just the 2-3 i need.

     

    Edit: Figured it out, "Always show all paths" apparantly overwrites "Scan for completed Achivement NPCs"   Should put in a option below "Always show all paths" to not overwrite sayd option.

    For the love of god, give me a setting, or remove Alani from the overlay ... idgaf what her path is. she's always up and can always be seen.

    I saw in the changes that carbonite is now supported, however it still doesn't seem to be working.  Is there anything special I need to do in either this addon or carbonite to get the addon to actually show up on the map.  The mob window pops with the loud alert, but there isn't any indication or tracers on minimap or large map.
