About _NPCScan.Overlay

NPCScan.Overlay is an addition to _NPCScan that adds map overlays for rare mob patrols. When you search for a rare in _NPCScan, _NPCScan.Overlay will show where it patrols until you find it. It works similarly to keithgabryelski's Rare Spawn Overlay's , but supports the minimap and has a much smaller download size, along with a few new features.

Special thanks to Rare Spawn Overlay's patrol paths and Routes minimap drawing code for inspiration!

Note: _NPCScan.Overlay can integrate with _NPCScan if you have installed it, but make sure to keep both up to date if you do use both!

World Map

In addition to drawing paths on the World Map, _NPCScan.Overlay adds a key to a corner of the window with each rare's name. It only appears in zones that have rare maps, like Netherstorm as seen in the screenshot. Hovering over a mob's name in the key will cause the mob's path on the map to start flashing. If you need to read something under the key, it can be toggled by Clicking on the Key Toggle button on the map. The key can be repositioned by just moving your mouse over top of it while holding the shift key and the key will jump to a different corner.

Most map mods like Atlas will inherit the key and overlays from this module. Even Carbonite's map display will show them.

Battlefield Minimap

The small “Battlefield Minimap” (AKA the “Zone Map”) also shows mob paths.

All shapes and sizes of minimaps are supported. Rotating minimaps work fine as well.

One feature not shown in the screenshot is a thinner 100 yard range ring around your character. It helps you gauge _NPCScan's detection range, so you can sweep through zones more effectively. This option can be found in the Minimap subsection of the options panel, detailed below.

_NPCScan.Overlay's options can be found under _NPCScan's main options menu, under _NPCScan > Overlay or as its own entry of _NPCScan.Overlay if _NPCScan isn't installed. This panel can be opened with the “/npcscanoverlay slash command, or “/overlay” for short.

The “Always show all paths” checkbox at the top of the pane overrides the instructions of NPC tracking mods like _NPCScan to hide unused paths, and always displays all known paths instead.

The rest of the configuration pane lists each map display's options. You can enable/disable each map from here, as well as configure individual settings for them.

Each map display can have its overall transparency set independently with the “Alpha” slider, so that it doesn't obscure the maps themselves.

How can I undelete ONE single mob ???
  • #531
I noticed tonight that the overlays weren't showing up on either the main map or minimap, so I went to Addons to check - it says "Incompatible". I've seen "Disabled" and such but never "Incompatible" before. Anyone know what this signifies (I don't need the dictionary definition of incompatible ...)?

It must have been a download issue - all the files in the folder were filled with nulls, in the original download folder, the Wow addon folder, and a backup folder I keep. Re-downloaded and everything's fine.

It doesn't look like the 1-60 rares aren't apart of this, will you ever add it? I say this because blizzard has made rares give a ridiculous amount of xp. If not can someone point me in the direction of an addon with this?

Also excellent addon I love having it.

Was in Deepholm searching for Aoenaxx when Blood Seeker spawned at 50.3-57.7. It has been confirmed that Blood Seeker does spawn share with Aoenaxx but there is no marker currently for that location for him. As Blood Seeker currently despawns like 3 sec after spawning I wasn't able to get a screenshot but maybe others can confirm this spawn location? The location is directly in front of the Temple of Earth entrance nearly in line with the first lava pool (slightly closer to the temple) at the height of the bottom of the blue/green rocks in the divot on the Temple of Earth.

If you put this batch file in your cache folder and a shortcut to your desktop, it will clear the creature cache when you start WoW. The mod uses the cache to find things, and once it's cached, it stays there till you clear it... and you have to leave the game to do that.

    del creaturecache.wdb
    "C:\Users\Public\Games\World of Warcraft\launcher.exe"

can u explain how 2 do this in a step bye step form im not very good with computer jatgan great addon thanks

Is it possible to allow the user to set the colors of the mobs?? The colors used are not friendly to red/green colorblind people.
  • #521
Seconded; the orange and green especially are difficult to see sometimes.

Another option I'd like is to be able to turn off individual paths on the fly; when I'm after the Time Lost drake, I don't need the other ones cluttering my map. The Drake especially tends to overlay things like Skoll's smaller areas and make them harder to see. Maybe if you mouse over the name, have it flash or brighten the locations?

Please add the flight path for the Mysterious Camel Figurine in Uldum.

    great addon btw
  • #522
On Wowhead, if you search for 'mysterious camel figurine', you find two; choose the first one. On the third or fourth page, there's a list made by Liax of the spawn points, with the coordinates and directions to
