About Obituary

What it does

Obituary announces deaths, whodunnit, and how.

By default it will only report deaths of players in your raid or party, but can optionally report on mob deaths too.

  • Player names are displayed in the correct colour for their class, and the damage done by the killing blow is also reported.
  • If available, a link to the spell/skill that dealt the killing blow is displayed.
  • Reports can be sent to your chat window (default), a channel of your choosing, or other addons such as MSBT.

It was inspired by Al'ar's flame patches, but has provided much in the way of entertainment and education since then. :)

Options

By default, Obituary will tell you when a party or raid member dies, what killed them, and how hard. You can change this behaviour in the Obituary page in the AddOns tab of your Interface Settings window.

  • You can switch it off by clearing the Enable check box.
  • You can enable/disable display of mob deaths with the Mobs check box.
  • You can choose a different output method by selecting one from the list.
  • If your chosen output method (e.g. a channel such as Raid or Say) doesn't support spell links you can switch them off by clearing the "Spell Links" check box.

Slash commands

/obit enable
Enables/disables the messages.
/obit mobs
Enables/disables display of mob deaths.
/obit links
Enables/disables display of spell links (to avoid errors when outputting to a channel that doesn't allow them).

You may also use /obituary for slash commands.

Sorry for the delay in the 4.2 update - patcher failed for me, as did the repair tool, so 2 days later I'm still redownloading the game :/

Anyway, let me know if there are any problems in 0.4.6-beta and if not I'll tag it as a release sometime over the weekend.

    Enjoy! :)

The only thing I've noticed is that when someone dies and they have a raid mark above their head it says:

{rt3}Blah was killed by [Spell] from actor (100000).

And doesn't actually show the raid mark.

    Here's hoping for a fix!

Yes definitely broken since 4.2. I love this addon, would love to see it fixed.
  • #61
Seems like this addon is broken for 4.2. Any chance of a fix soon?
  • #58
    First of all, Great addon...

Any chance that you can add this to the addon ?

Keep up the good work... ;o)

    aka http://www.wowinterface.com/downloads/info13816-Obituary.html

I'm personally using a patched version of the abandoned wowinterface version for the "spit out last 3 causes of damage" bit. Very useful feature.
  • #55
Wow, cannot use on my toons at all, as soon as combat starts, wow freezes (less than 1 fps), unload addon, it works just fine. Have latest release from curse.
  • #59
Dunno what's changed, but it seems fine now. Definitely seemed to be this addon, as teh FPS went back to normal after this and only this was unloaded.
  • #57
Works for me - can you give any more details?
  • #56
Sorry to hear that - I pushed 0.4.5-beta while on holiday so wasn't able to test it myself (although it sounded like many other people were already running with the patch). I'm home now and will see what's up.
  • #52
are you able to have this mod print to self instead of a chat window...

    http://wow.curse.com/downloads/wow-addons/details/acheron.aspx

was my favorite death logger, but it no longer works after this patch.. and I do not know how to fix it.
