About Outfitter

Limited updating until the expansion

I've activated a Starter Edition subscription so that I can test changes being posted in the comments before I upload them. I won't be updating frequently or doing earnest development until after the expansion when I activate my normal account, but please use the comments to share fixes you find until then and I'll work on getting them integrated and posted. Thanks!

Troubleshooting

Lots of things can go wrong, but one of the most common is people having problems with Outfitter not working at all. Crazy stuff like tons of errors (if errors are enabled), or it won't change outfits, or the UI is a train wreck. This happens pretty much for one reason: Outfitter was updated while WoW was still running. Just restart WoW all the way from the desktop (not just from login) and it'll be happy again.

Why? Addons have a file called the Table of Contents which describes how WoW should load and start the addon. The problem is that WoW copies the ToC file into memory at startup and will never update it again as long as WoW is still running. If an addon update has changes to the ToC then WoW won't see those changes if it's still running while you update. Those changes to the ToC may include critical things like new files to be loaded. Without those files the addon likely can't even initialize itself correctly resulting in all those errors, mangled UI, etc.

Reporting Bugs

Feel free to report bugs in the comments section at the bottom of this page, but please don't paste in your bug/crash logs. Those logs are very large since they usually include the list of every addon you're running and that makes the post take a huge amount of screen space in the comments section. That, in turn, makes it very difficult for me to find previous questions and bug reports. Crash dumps are great and extremely useful, but please post them into a CurseForge ticket and then refer to that ticket in your comment so I know where to find it. Thanks!

    First off, let me say I'm a long time user and fan of this mod. Not sure if I could live without it. Anyway, I've been having a few issues lately. Biggest one is trying to equip two weapons on my casters. Umm. I'm using it with pawn. Does outfitter have any checks for things like this?

  • #6587

    Can you provide more specifics about what you're seeing? Step-by-step would be nice, and details on what weapons you're trying to equip would be useful too.

    Pet Battle Detection Script

    How can i set up an auto equip set for pet battling?  I'd like to auto equip the safari hat, there doesn't seem to be an option for it in the automation flyout, but there is a custom option, anyone have a script for it?

    somebody?

  • #6590

    Thank you.  this equips the hat when I enter a battle that I Q'd for, but not for wild battles or for tamers.  it is also unequipping before the xp goes out to the pets though

  • #6589

    I suspect nobody has written a script like this yet so nobody knows exactly how to do it, but it shouldn't be too hard as long as it's possible at all.  I looked at Blizzard's Pet Battle UI code and it looks like there are two events you need to monitor -- PET_BATTLE_OPENING_START and PET_BATTLE_CLOSE.  A basic script would be this:

    -- $EVENTS PET_BATTLE_OPENING_START PET_BATTLE_CLOSE

    equip = event == "PET_BATTLE_OPENING_START"

     I've never tested this, but what it should do is cause the outfit to equip when pet battle's begin (the PET_BATTLE_OPENING_START event fires) and unequip the outfit when the battle (PET_BATTLE_CLOSE event fires).

    I need to know the very first error that occurred.  The ones after that are not useful.

    Got the same problem after latest update. Mine gives:

    \AddOns\Outfitter\Outfitter.lua line 5360:    hooksecurefunc(): SummonPetByGUID is not a function

    And when trying to use Outfitter it says:

    \FrameXML\UIPanelTemplates.lua line 122:    'for' limit must be a number

    Which country are you in? Do you have patch 5.1 yet?

    ...

    Got 5.1 now and I can confirm all is working again.

    Thx for a great addon

    todays update completely broke outfitter for me

    1x Outfitter\Outfitter-5.7.lua:3678: attempt to index field "Settings" (a nil value)

    <snipped by mundocani>

    id = 1

    The entire GUI of outfitter attached to the character pane is totally screwed too. WTB previous working version

    When an addon fails during initialization it will leave it in a pretty funky state which results in a cascade of errors.  Only the very first error matters though, the rest are little more than schrapnel.  If you can see what the first error was let me know as that will be the best indicator of what went wrong.
