About Ovale Spell Priority

Ovale Spell Priority is a rotation-helper addon that shows you what spell or ability you should use in order to maximize your damage.

It displays one or more icons that show the cooldown of an action. The action is conditionally defined through a user-defined script, e.g. you may display either Corruption if the DoT is not on your target or Shadow Bolt if the Corruption DoT is already on your target.

Default scripts are available for all dps classes and specializations, based on SimulationCraft. You may also customize the default script to suit your needs (see Documentation) or use scripts made by other users.

FAQ

Why does it not work for me?

Try to reset your Profile in the Ovale settings. Most problems come from faulty scripts.

Why is the key binding displayed for an action wrong?

The action may be in several action bars, e.g., the bars that you can cycle through or the bars that appear in special cases like Shadowform or Cat Form.

Why is the key binding not displayed at all?

The action must be in your standard Blizzard action bar in order for Ovale to know which key binding is used.

Why is the icon sometimes red?

The cooldown that is displayed in an icon is not always the true action cooldown. If this cooldown is longer than the action cooldown, then the icon is red. In most cases, it means that if you use this action too soon, then you will overwrite or clip a DoT, which may not be what you want.

Why can't I click on the icon to cast the spell?

Blizzard does not allow this. Only a predefined sequence of spells can be bound to an action icon and this sequence can not change in combat.

On my low-level character, there is nothing at all.

You need to reach level 10 and choose a specialization.

There is no bane or curse (or whatever) in the rotation.

Click the icon and select the bane or curse that you want to use from the dropdown menu list.

    - Druid: Increase ratio threshold before refreshing Balance DoTs early.
    The latest SimulationCraft uses 30% increase as the threshold so match it
    in the default script.
    - Information that's queried with GetItemInfo() might not be available.
    Wait for the GET_ITEM_INFO_RECEIVED event and query again for meta-gem and
    weapon information.
    
    This fixes ticket 403 by @Dhanir.
    - Rogue: Premeditation requires stealth.
    - Death Knight: Fix Dark Transformation usage.
    Dark Transformation requires 5 stacks of Shadow Infusion on the player and
    applies a buff to the pet.
    
    This fixes ticket 379 by @bamabandit.
    - Allow specifying a cooldown time for buffs.
    This cooldown time is how long to expect between when the buff is gained
    and can be used to note the internal cooldown of a trinket that applies a
    buff.
    
    Decorate trinket buffs with approximate internal cooldown times.  The
    syntax is "buff_cd=N" where N is the number of seconds.
    
    Add a BuffCooldown(id) script condition to return the remaining time
    before the buff can be gained again.
    - Add additional spells used in SimulationCraft action lists.
    - Add haste buff from legendary caster meta-gem.
    - Allow setting and getting variables within the simulator from the script.
    This feature can be used to keep state from the script.
    
        SetState(name, value) sets the named variable to the given value.
        GetState(name) gets the value of the named variable or 0 if missing.
    
    Internally, a new action "SetState" was added that always returns true.
    This new state action has no output.
    
    OvaleFrame has been adjusted to avoid flickering if a state action is the
    best action.
    - Fix debuff spell list names used in GetAura.
    - Rename *Remains() script conditions to *Remaining() for readability.
    The old names are still usable as aliases of the recommended condition
    names.
    - Put all script condition definitions into a single file.
    This reverses a design decision to split up conditions into smaller files
    that ended up making this addon harder to update for users.  Keeping all
    conditions in a single file reduces the likelihood of files being added or
    removed, which allows for updating the addon without needing a full
    restart of the WoW client.
    
    This does make the conditions.lua file harder to maintain, but a clean
    internal code layout should alleviate this concern.
    - Rename TicksRemain() to TicksRemaining() for better readability.
    - Add PrimaryResource() script condition for the current power level.
    PrimaryResource(id) returns the current amount of the player's primary
    resource for the given spell.
    - When unparsing Ovale ASTs into scripts, avoid unnecessary whitespace.
    - Teach OvaleAST unparser to automatically insert parentheses as needed.
    The AST structure implies that parentheses are needed when unparsing
    expressions, based on the relative precedence of the operators involved.
    Any existing parentheses that are extraneous due to precedence are
    ignored when unparsing.
    - Fix operator precedence bug with "and" and "or".
    "And" binds more tightly than "or" in most logical operator precedence
    systems.
    - Add ExecuteTime() script condition to match SimC's "execute_time".
    This condition returns the larger of a spell's cast time or the GCD.
    - Add "amplified" buff from the Amplification trinkets.
    - Add "stealthed_buff" spell list for common rogue and druid stealth buffs.
    - Add "_buff" and "_debuff" to the default raid buff names for consistency.
    - Rogue: Fix spell information to add to the correct spell IDs.
    The spell information for the Crimson Tempest DoT wasn't correctly being
    added due to the wrong name reference being used.
    - Warrior: Fix rage cost of Impending Victory after landing a killing blow.
    - Druid: Don't cast bear Berserk with Incarnation is active.
    The name of the buff referenced in the script was incorrectly
    "son_of_ursoc" instead of "son_of_ursoc_buff".  Fix by @Wiljo.

    Downloaded r538 but getting this on login now, and yeah it does appear to be Locks that are bugging out. Hope this helps.

    I asked this before to see if we could get a latency gold thing around the buttons.  Normal action buttons do this so you know if you're getting lagged or not.  This becomes a big problem when I click my ability and ovale starts cooling it down, only to have it snap back 300 or so MS later.  Regular action buttons don't do this.

    Ovale is pretty close to an actionbar mod without changing your UI to do it.  But this one thing always becomes a huge issue when the server gets lagged.

     

    Also how do you change the frame strata of the bar?

    Hi Jlam, Sorry didn't realise you were not working on scripts yet. Thanks for your hard work. Look forward to working scripts for my affliction warlock they are done. I appreciate you post below letting us know where to post tickets if not already submitted.

    There is one more trouble ticket that is urgent to fix before MoP and then I'll work on fixing up scripts.  For now, I'm only working on fixing base addon functionality.

    If you have script problems, see if there's a ticket for it already and add your details to it, and if not, then create one.  Also check the forums -- some users have posted working scripts to that forum.

    You can also install Nerien's Ovale Scripts that has working scripts by Leafkiller and Opisthobranch for some classes.

    As Affli lock the addon is suggesting soulburn > soulsswap when there are only singel target, and it seam to get stuck on that after a first rotation of dots..

    Feral Druid still suggesting Savage roar over and over again but is now suggesting beserk. 

    Frost DK not doing the error text anymore, though.

    1) Enhance module constantly tells me to enchant weapons, when they are already enchanted.

    2) Maelstrom procs are concidered "Off GCD" when they are not. It needs to be in the main rotation, not off GCD.

    3) Arms Warrior module still can't tell when Overpower is up

    Great addon, but feels like a lot of the new spell id/rotations have really confused the addon.

    Hi and many thanks for the addon. I have been trying all the alpha builds for my warlock. I just downloaded and tried version 5.03 release but it has been having the same problems with all the releases so far with affliction spec. It tells me that haunt needs to be put when it is up and has 4 or so seconds before running out. Also it keeps telling me to put up agony when it is already on the target. I press it just to see twice or three times but it still seems to suggest agony. I love the mod because I basically use it as a dot timer without needing to track dots on the target. I even tried going destruction for a bit as the rotation is better and it seemed much more accurate with that. Also it keeps suggestion before pull that I pull out my fell pet even if I have grimore of sacrifce which means I have sacrificed my pet for buff on spell damage. I'm patient and know things will be worked out with time. I have all classes in this game with warlock as my main and have loved this mod for sometime. Thanks. Just letting you know probelmes so your aware of them. You mention tickets should I be making tickets with issues on curse forge. Oh also I uninstalled the addon with curse software and it removed all files including settings and also tired reseting profiles etc but sitl these errors.

    I'm using the new Alpha version and for my ret paladin it's still suggesting divine intervention constantly....which I am not sure what is up with that since (a) it was never a dps spell and (b) it's not in the game anymore, but it makes this addon useless for retadins. :( 

    EDIT:  Someone responded to my initial post (after I'd last checked) and suggested it's supposed to be Templar's Verdict.  If it is, it's constantly suggesting Templar's Verdict when you don't have enough Holy Power to use it.  You get the suggestion for it for a fraction of every global cooldown then it changes to something else.  :(  The ability to turn off the global cooldown thingie would be great.

    How do I get rid of the global CD icon it shows between skills? It really bothers me and haven't found a way to remove it (playing ret paladin).

    I've never seen the option to not display the global cooldown, but you can set up Weak Auras to function similar to Ovale and it doesn't keep track of the gcd.

    For those that came to the forums looking for the solution to this. (Like I did cuz it bothered me a lot.)When you click on the ovale icons it comes up with a big old check box to turn off the wait icon. (Like the old versions used to have AOE check boxes etc...)

    Well I've never seen an icon for global cd until testing the ovale version 5.0.2 before that it would show the cooldown just like action bar would with the actual spell icon being greyed out. now it shows the icon for the spell and after that an icon that is the cooldown. I still want to see the cooldown like it used to be, not the icon since it makes me pay too much attention to the addon instead of actual game mechanics :D
