About Ovale Spell Priority

Ovale Spell Priority is a rotation-helper addon that shows you what spell or ability you should use in order to maximize your damage.

It displays one or more icons that show the cooldown of an action. The action is conditionally defined through a user-defined script, e.g. you may display either Corruption if the DoT is not on your target or Shadow Bolt if the Corruption DoT is already on your target.

The current release of Ovale provides default scripts for the following classes for Warlords of Draenor:

  • Death Knight: Blood, Frost, Unholy
  • Druid: Feral, Guardian, Restoration (Balance is NOT currently supported)
  • Hunter: Beast Mastery, Marksmanship, Survival
  • Mage: Arcane, Fire, Frost
  • Monk: Brewmaster, Windwalker
  • Paladin: Protection, Retribution
  • Priest: Shadow
  • Rogue: Assassination, Combat, Subtlety
  • Shaman: Elemental, Enhancement, Restoration
  • Warlock: Affliction, Demonology, Destruction
  • Warrior: Arms, Fury, Protection

Default scripts are based on SimulationCraft. You may also customize the default script to suit your needs (see Documentation) or use scripts made by other users.

How closely are the default scripts based on SimulationCraft?

The SimulationCraft APL language and the Ovale script language are functionally very similar and concepts from one can be translated into the other in a very direct and mechanical way. For all intents and purposes, the default scripts are the SimulationCraft APLs imported into the game and displayed visually.

Why is the key binding displayed for an action wrong?

You may be running an action bar addon, e.g., Bartender4, etc., that does not use the Blizzard action bar frames.

Why is the icon sometimes red?

The cooldown that is displayed in an icon is not always the true action cooldown. If this cooldown is longer than the action cooldown, then the icon is red. In most cases, it means that if you use this action too soon, then you will overwrite or clip a DoT, which may not be what you want.

How do I make the spells flash on the action bar?

Simply install SpellFlashCore (included if you install SpellFlash) and Ovale will use it to flash the spell to cast on the action bar in addition to displaying the spell in the Ovale icon bar.

Why can't I click on the icon to cast the spell?

Blizzard does not allow this. Only a predefined sequence of spells can be bound to an action icon and this sequence can not change in combat.

On my low-level character, there is nothing at all.

You need to reach level 10 and choose a specialization. However, be aware that the default Ovale scripts are tuned for max-level characters and you may be missing key abilities at low levels that are assumed to exist. If the default script is not working for you, you will need to find or write a script more appropriate for your character's level.

Ovale Spell Priority 6.2.16

Changes from version 6.2.15:

  • Only suggest the legendary ring if it is equipped and usable.

  • Regenerate scripts to re-add suggesting on-use trinket actions.

  • Merge branch 'simulationcraft'.

    Add "use_item" actions to SimC APLs so that script code for on-use
    trinkets is properly generated.

  • Add "use_item" to APLs to properly generate code for on-use trinkets.

  • Suggest using the legendary ring separately from trinkets.

    Also fix a bug where non-spell actions were not emitted by the SplitByTag

  • The engineering glove enhancement was removed ages ago.

  • Import latest from curseforge-packager project.

  • Update localized strings from CurseForge app from 2015-12-30.

  • Regenerate scripts based on SimulationCraft git master from 2015-12-17.

  • Avoid emitting "call_action_list" as a missing symbol.

    Filter out special actions from the list of actions that are regarded as
    requiring symbols.

  • Add trinket information for the Soul Capacitor.

  • Add item ID for the Empty Drinking Horn.

  • Translate SimC's "equipped.<item>" to allow checking for equipped items.

  • Translate SimC's "eclipse_dir.<name>" expressions for balance druids.

  • Translate SimC's "solar_max" for balance druids.

  • Teach OvaleSimulationCraft about "@" absolute value operator.

    Limit its translation to simple inequalities involving absolute values by
    converting to the appropriate union or intersection of one-sided
    inequalities. The latter are more suitable for translating into the
    equivalent Ovale timespan concept.

    This fixes the translation of "@" used in balance druid APLs involving

  • Druid: Move Cenarion Ward back to short CD icon for Guardian druids.

    Cenarion Ward should not be used on cooldown since it wastes a GCD that
    could be used to generate rage and is situational in providing a burst
    heal for the tank.

  • Merge branch 'simulationcraft'

    Pull in changes from SimulationCraft git master from 2015-12-17.

  • Import Tier18M profiles from SimulationCraft git master from 2015-12-17.

    I added the option to hide the border and the option to hide the icons if the target is friendly (in 3.2.14).

    I installed Dominos and Apathy but I was not able to reproduce the bug. Could you confirm that if you hide the shortcuts in Ovale, the question marks disappear? Or do you mean that it is already the shorcuts in Ovale that you hide?

    Is this addon for lvl 80 only or does it work for lower levels (10-40) as well?

    It works for lower levels too for some classes. It does not work for mage, but it works for warrior, for example. It works for all classes at level 60.

    I love this addon. It really helps to keep my rotation tighter and more efficient.

    However, I've run into a problem since the last couple updates. It used to be that my Heroic Strikes would disappear once I activated it, and not show up again until it goes off. This behavior seems to have changed. Now, as long as it's conditions are met, "Mana (MORE 50), it will always be there and not go away, making it harder to tell when I should hit it again. I don't believe my scripts have changed. They still say "{Spell(HEROICSTRIKE doNotRepeat=1)}"

    It may have been I've mucked something up, since I have customized my script, but any help is appreciated.

    I just updated to 3.2.9 and the problem is still there.

    Ah.. The Zen of Posting... as soon as I post asking for help, I figure it out.

    Seems the scripting languange has changed a wee bit. I backed up my custom script, and reset to Default. Looks like a different script from the one I based mine on. It has new commands and what not. Spellinfo(Heroicstrike Toggle=1) is the one I'm interested in, I think.

    You're probably already working on updating the documentation, but I should be able to figure it out from this new script, most of it is self-explanatory once you get the hang of it. One question though, what's "ScoreSpells" do? I don't even have an inkling.

    Oh, sorry, you're right. I removed the doNoRepeat parameter without any notice. I will update the documentation as soon as I find the time to do it.

    Yes, you should use SpellInfo(HEROICSTRIKE toggle=1). It says that heroic strike is a "next attack" ability.

    ScoreSpells is a new feature that allows to test how well you follow the script. Any time you cast a spell that is in the list, Ovale checks if the spell was the spell on the icon. If it was the case, you score from 0 to 1, 0 if you were slow, 1 if you were fast. The score is displayed on Recount.

    It may be fixed in 3.2.7, thank you. I was not able to reproduce it, maybe because my DK is only level 60. Could you please tell me if the bug is still here and if you have to do anything to get it or if it pops as soon as you log.

    I updated Ovale via the curse client when the file was updated. When I login my ovale is visible so I go into the settings, uncheck the box to show in combat only and recheck it so it goes away. Every time I log in or switch characters I have to do it.

    I like where this is going. A few bugs:
    1. Can't use pet spells in Spell() i.e. Call of the Wild even when they're on the petbar. However you should make this work from the spellbook as well since there are only 4 slots.
    2. "Macro(chim) or Spell(CHIMERASHOT)" doesn't work. "Ovale: meilleurePrioriteFils nil and priorite not nil "

    And some suggestions:
    3. waitmax=# parameter for Spell(). For example, if Kill Shot is coming off cooldown in 0.6 seconds, I would rather wait than start casting another Steady Shot. The value should be a float in seconds, or an integer in milliseconds.
    4. Detect macros that display the pertinent spell. This would make scripts easier to share.
    5. Let us refer to spells/talents by name instead of having to define id's.

    3.1.16 should help you. I made extensive changes, so I hope it does not break anything.
    1 & 4. Spells are displayed now even if they are not in the action bar. It should solve these problems (note that "on next attack" spells like heroic strike should be in the action bar anyway)
    2. I added chimera shot to the default script, and I didn't see this bug
    3. It is already supported. Use something like:
    unless 0.6s before Spell(KILLSHOT) Spell(STEADYSHOT)
    5. I would like the script to be sharable even if a different language is used for the client, so I don't think that I will do that.
