Finding this very useful with my pet levelling.

Would love for the map icons to have a few extra filters, so that I could turn off all the ones I already have as rare quality, but still leave others showing even if I already have them as uncommon etc.

Not entirely sure if the add on is playing nicely with NPCScan Overlay as the map menu often takes a few clicks to get it to work.

  • #131

    Great job Jaliborc.  Awesome addon.

  • #124

Maybe it's a good thing to only show the pets that are actually present at the moment, instead of all the pets that COULD be in an area.  I looked to see if there were finaly some Minfernals, and it said there were! But after traveling there...No minfernals :(. However, the map still said the should be there.

  • #140

The map just indicates pets can be there.

In WoW, resource nodes, NPCs, and such spawn at known locations.  How long it takes them to do so or which of several possible spawn locations they actually wind up appearing at can be random.

Addons like this, Gatherer, and so on are meant to be references tools, not status monitors.  It is probably not even possible for an addon to detect the presence of an NPC on the other side of the zone from where you are, let alone another zone.

Detecting every battle pet NPC in every zone of every continent of the game at once, and winking it off the display when it was killed would drag performance down on both ends of the wire.  If tht happened, you would not care if battle pets lived or died anymore because there would be little point in logging in.

If you want to target a battle pet or other kind of NPC in the game, once you arrive in its vicinity, you can type something like the following into your chat input box:

    /tar Cat

What that does is "target" the Cat you believe/hope is somewhere out there in the direction you are facing, and not too far away.  You will also benefit a lot if you tell the minimap filter to show Target on the minimap.

When you do both these things together, it helps you determine a little more quickly if there is a, say, Minfernal close at hand in the direction you are heading.  Even better, it will set your sights on it and perhaps even make it show up in the minimap so you can point yourself in its direction and hie to it.

Note you could put "/target Minfernal" into a macro, and drag the macro's icon onto one of the empty slots on one of your action bars.  If there is not already a keyboard key bound to that button, you would assign it one with a custom binding.  The, you just tap that key periodically while you are camping the spot where Minfernals spawn.  The map will guide you to the spot, just not tell you when they are there.

Note that the addon known NPCScan does seem to be able to work with battle pets.  It does not come with their IDs and names built into it.  However, you can look up their IDs pretty easily; find them in WowHead and look at the URL.  To see what I am talking about, use Google and search for:  wowhead Minfernal

Click the link and then notice the ID number is stuck in the middle of the URL.  How convenient, as the comedian used to say.  Enjoy!

PetTracker cannot guess when they spawn. It only shows where they spawn.

I do have one suggestion, an "*" indicating "research may be required".  This might be a simple way to indicate like Apes, in stranglethorn are only out when it rains, or Tiny Twisters, only show for like an hour.  I haven't found a good list of those low spawn rate pets.

Working with 5.0.4 at this time (which is a great tool when it comes to maximizing quality), I am missing the possibility to hide pets that come from special and long gone events, promitions and other sources no longer available and (german client here) it shows at least some world event pets to be missing, but they are not.

Any help with that? Thx in advance and keep it up, great add-on!

This is by far the most useful Pet addon i've seen so far this expansion. Thank you! The one thing that makes it truly awesome is the "Wild Pets" under objectives. Here, you can track what pets you are missing and what rarity the ones you have caught already have.

Here, I need to request an additional functionality: Add the pet level.

Example: You have an Uncommon level 22 Tickling Spider that you won in Borean Tundra. You just cant remember that level when you find a Rare Tickling Spider in Elwynn Forest. With an added functinality like this, you wont have to open your pet journal to find out.

    Did I explain myself properly?

I am using the lastest version (5.0.4) as of this writing, and I do not see improvement in what are to me two critical areas:

    1) World map button which toggles pet icons on and off: at some point during play, the small (too small!) tab which brings down the filtering menu simply disappears. That is, it becomes impossible to filter the visible pets. This is not due to a conflict with other addons, as far as I can tell, for I can reproduce this glitch with no other addons present (not even their data - all purged) whatsoever.

    2) That little tab for flitering is itself WAY TOO SMALL. Please increase its SIZE. Or, simpler yet, have the flitering menu be invoked with a left-click, i.e., a contextual menu. This makes perfect paradigmatic sense as what this filtering does is alter the CONTEXT of the visiblity button itself. If you make this change, add a mouseover tooltip which informs the user of the presence of the contextual menu and how to access it.

    Best regards,

Re: PetTracker losing it's filter options contextual menu

This is still happening to me. There is no LUA message. The little tab simply disappears. Reloading the UI restores it. I can duplicate this issue with all other addons disabled, so I don't know what else I can tell you. Is no one else having this happen?

  • #117

For some reason this addon is causing a crash in WoW when i try to play with an alt character. The crash happens immediately after the loading screen. On my main character, the character that learned Pet Battling for my account (if that matters) and which i tested the addon first with, doesn't have this problem. I don't get any error either. It's just a crash/freeze of the WoW client.
