About Preform AV Enabler

A Note Regarding the 2.7x Versions

The 2.7x versions floating around are NOT official updates by the original author of this addon (me) and contain code I deem unacceptable to use. 3.04 is the official latest release of this software. You use unauthorized and illegal hacks of my work at your own risk. Do not ask me anything concerning any 2.7x version.

Addon Purpose

Preform AV Enabler allows the group/raid leader to solo queue everybody in the raid group simultaneously with a button press and to see the queue status of everyone with this addon installed for the purpose of increasing the chance of the raid getting into the same battleground.

To use, open a battlemaster window and click the Preform AV Enabler button, type /preformav, or click "Preform" on the menu that appears when right clicking the minimap battleground icon.

Version 3.04:

  • Numerous bug fixes
  • A column compaction feature has been added, and is on by default. To turn it off (or back on) type /preformav autocompact at the command line.

Version 3.03:

  • Localizations added for the new battlegrounds (untested however, some may be incorrect)
  • Should no longer conflict with the glyph UI (hopefully; it was not happening on my client)

Version 3.02:

  • Mists compatibility

Version 3.01:

  • Lots of bug fixes

Version 3.0:

  • Timers now displayed in queue status columns. The greener the color, the closer that player is to the average time.
  • Info column displaying role, resilience, and ilevel
  • Class colored player names
  • New command line options. Type /preformav ? for a list
  • Variable window update time
  • Popups altered to help prevent accidental zoning in
  • 2.x users will not be able to see the status of 3.x users, but are still controllable by the raid leader
  • French translation fix
  • Much of the base addon code refactored

Version 2.66:

  • esMX localization added and ptBR localization updated

Version 2.65:

  • WoW 4.3 Compatibility
  • ptBR Localizations added

Version 2.64:

  • toc interface number updated to 40200

Version 2.63:

  • 4.1 compatibility

Version 2.62:

  • French, German, and Spanish translations for new BGs

Version 2.61:

  • Russian translations for new BGs added
  • The button to open the Preform window is once again on the battleground selection window

Version 2.6:

  • Twin Peaks and Battle for Gilneas added
  • Number of instances total removed due to Blizzard removing that function
  • Battlemaster window status removed as they no longer exist

To get the full functionality of the status window would require a great deal of code.  Information that would otherwise be available via the API would have to be sent over the wire to a single client, which could protentially cause disconnection issues if the realm server considers it too much data.  (I had that problem with a very early version of this addon many years ago, which is why I took pains to reduce redundant communication)  This would be an interesting project, but I don't have 4-5 clients I would need to use to develeop it.

A more crude implementation without a full members list could be done with much less code though.

I don't know how queuing as a group works while in a raid, but if it doesn't work or work in a speific way, then impementing coordinated group queing would not be trivial to implement.  I'm guessing it doens't work if you're asking me to make the addon function outside of raids.  It would probably literally double or more the code of the addon to implement something like that, and even then there would be issues that might make it not entirely workable in large raid groups.  It would multiply complexity of the addon considerably and I wouldn't be able to test the functionality without having like 4-5 clients at my disposal.

    Testing would be a problem.

However the way I saw it working is that you can only queue separate groups (not raids) and the leader of each party apart from the leader of the "main" party needs to nominate the leader of the main party as the queue leader, either via a text entry widget or via chat window command.

When the queue leader wants to queue all, his addon sends a message to the leaders of the other parties only which causes them to queue their groups. When clicking to tell people to join or leave the queue, the queue leader's addon again sends only to the other party leaders which then notify that party leader as well as then notifying the members of that party. Also the queue leader's addon does what the other party leader's addons do.

All messages get routed through the party leader. It shouldn't be that much code. I don't get much time for coding these days or I'd offer to write it for you. However last time we wanted to do premades, we just grouped into different groups and used Vent to communicate, and apart from one mis-click, all went well. The addon would be better though if it grouped by parties instead of individually.

Quote from Arkaan » But ya, Torrid, would be cool to experiment with the idea of maybe setting up a way for addon to communicate to other people without actually being in raid, such as maybe you have to enter the name of the party leader manually, or copy/paste type of thing for it to communicate with that leader

Patch 3.01 works fantastic.  I have had zero issues with it.

As a raid leader you can still que people in that have the older version(2.66), and even that independant update 2.72 (though not really Torrid's), but I would highly recommend everyone just getting 3.01

At this point there is no real reason to use 2.72  since 3.01 is out with all added functionality, yet easy to get here on curse.com  --  Plus, the "fan update" version has some hidden features bitbytes hasn't told people about that gives him some direct user control over your account.

Just use 3.01 and you'll be fine.

I was using this fine with a premade group for dozens of games and then suddenly it stopped queing me with the group. Everyone could see I had the add on, it showed up as version of 3.01 in the window, but the raid leader could not queue me. I did not install any new add ons from when it was working to when it stopped - it just stopped working. I tried reinstalling the add on and it still does not work. Any ideas?

    HI!
We tested the new version 3.01, but it didn't work we qued as a 10man raid.
Everyone got his pop in but in 2 separate WSG. My party got in the same bg.
No one came from other server and the program showed every data correcly, ilvl resistence, name class etc.

This addon does not guarantee your party or raid will get into the same battleground.  It merely increases the chance by automatically simultaneously solo queueing everybody and allowing people to see the queue status of each other.  It's essentially just a better way than some guy telling people in vent to queue on the count of 3.

  • #666

You do have to (if you're the leader, at least) watch the preform av enabler window and make a good choice about whether to accept the queue when it pops.  You see the column of numbers that indicate the difference between WHEN the queue popped for each different member of your raid. If those numbers are too different then you will probably get split into different runs, so in that case you want to drop the queue and re-queue.

Also when you queue up the group, you will see a column of numbers showing the difference in time of when each group member actually got queued.  If those numbers are too far different you might want to re-queue too.  It's up to you to determine how much difference is safe, and you get experience with that by trial and error.

is there away to scale down the window?

Im dissapointed at the current community of LUA developers and the ME FIRST attitude. Preform AV Enabler has been in my addon folder since '07 and I recommend it to EVERYONE. However, When Torrid stepped away from the development for a very long time, those of us in the Premade Community were stuck with no other options but to either develop a new addon or to update the addon ourselves. Bitbytes version of Preform 2.72 is far superior to anything ive ever seen or used and I regularly recommend it to everyone. Im saddened that because of his addon, Torrid, returned to the scene to create 3.0 which in essence seemed like a move solely designed to just "Be that guy". Torrid, as a long time user of your addon and a huge fan of the Enabler, I ask on behalf of the premade community that you in some way find a way to work with BitByte to come up with the ultimate preform that connects everything youve done with the addon, with the awesome additions to the addon Bit was able to add. He added them with the input of the largest community of premaders in mind and I have to say the addon is better then it ever has been. Please look to the community first!

I am 'that guy' because I wrote it.  I own it in the same sense that a novelist owns the novels he writes.  The only legal difference between my software and anything from microsoft is that WoW addons are not compilable.

As for the 'community', I have to practically beg for input.  Not so much as a 'it's working' since 3.01 was pushed.  I haven't used my addon for actual pvp since 2007, so if it breaks I have to be notified.  If you want a feature, ask for it.  I'll tell you something rather obvious: the more input a developer receives, the more likely he is to consider the request.  Get half of your 40 man raid to come here and tell me you'd like to see X feature and eventually I'll implement it just to stop my email from filling up if nothing else.

And frankly I can't wait for Blizzard to disable the core feature of this addon.  If they actually played their own game I sure they would have years ago.  Avoiding matchmaking is damn near cheating and forming premades to stomp pugs ruins the fun of PvP for everyone involved-- especially the PUGers.

Doesn't like premades bypassing group queue.  Makes an addon that allows groups to bypass group queue.  Makes sense!

It's Torrid's addon and it has worked just fine for years... yes the minor things that were added by Bitbytes are kind of cool and useful, but it looks like Torrid was humble enough to take those and update them into his OWN code.

Thanks for the kind words, but I would like to clarify that I did not use his code.  I did run his version for 5 minutes to see what the hubbub was about and did a cursory look of his code though.  Admittedly he did seem to do a decent job of maintaining compatibility.  But my old code was so ugly and unorganized (it was 2006 era code I never refactored) that I felt the need to redo it.

Again I would like to restate that input from users is what drives software development.  I don't get much input.  I get an email every single time somebody responds to one of my half dozen addons uploaded on curse, and I don't get many curse emails.

I have to say that I really agree with torrid on this point.  The AV enabler community has always been quite small and it wasn't until recently that things changed a little with a couple of leaders running xrealm stuff.

It's Torrid's addon and it has worked just fine for years... yes the minor things that were added by Bitbytes are kind of cool and useful, but it looks like Torrid was humble enough to take those and update them into his OWN code.  That was pretty cool of him to do and he didn't have to.

And in so doing, he has re-made the addon to 3.01

I mean, he even added and fixed a TON of bugs, and 2.72, while a cool and probably long desired update by many was useful, it still bugged a little bit and Torrid cleaned it up, rewrote much of the code while still including the new features, and made the addon his again by keeping it well-written with quality code and very low resource demand.

Anyway, I am not saying what bitbytes did wasn't cool, I actually appreciate it and I think fan updates can be cool too, but imo, to come here and tell Torrid he is being "That Guy" for updating his own addon that he has maintained for over 5 years now when 1 guy came in and did a fan update to add a few features is a little unfair.

Thanks Torrid for the 3.01 update it works great!  And, I have to say it is MUCH easier to get people to come to curse.com and just use the client to update the long-used AV enabler than it is to go to bitbytes host to get the fan update addon.

    HAIL TORRID

Version 3.01 was just uploaded and should fix everything.  Let me know either way please.  (Note: 2.x users not being able to see 3.x user status is not a bug.  Raid leaders will need to upgrade)
