About Professional

An addon guide to leveling all your professions from 1-525. (Beta Test at this time)
07/22/2011
Currently working on getting this up to date with Cata 4.2. Will be using the 1.0h coding as many users felt it was better. Will NOT be adding Archaeology to the guide as there are several addons to help with that and this one is not designed for that kind of a "profession". Expect an update within the next week or so.

You can open/close with /pro or /professional or click the NEW minimap Button!

Additions for the future: Open to suggestions.

Bugs: Guide format issues (just me taking the LONG time to format a cleaner text)

Please report all bugs to my ticket system here: http:wow.curseforge.com/projects/professional/create-ticket/
This way I can manage any error reports better.
In fact if you can answer step 1 in the defect ticket, it can solve 90% of all problems.

Any devs who know how to do future enhancements please contact me.

v1.0k beta test Fixed naming and showing of guides. Fixed close button from not showing.

v1.0j.1 beta test Fixes the blacksmith error, however this version does not fix the guide display, so no game guide will popup for you.

v.1.0j beta test Contains more guides converted to the new engine format. There are some that need to be worked on yet and will be released at the next update. This should fix any problems with Professional not opening for some users as well. I have left the support ticket open for others to use if they still encounter the problem.

v.1.0i beta test Updated to a new engine for guides to match current skill in profession. Alchemy is the only guide at this time in the new format. Added a minimap icon below clock that is ? and will open Professional with out /pro or /professional (but these commands still work). Updated guide info screen to no longer use background strata.

v.1.0h beta test A "patch file" was given to me to fix the scrollframe text to stay in the frame by llothos on wowinterface. I fixed some minor typos, and fixed some functions. A First aid button and lib have been added.

v.1.0g beta test updated frame.lua for an error of " ..\AddOns\Professional\Frame.lua line 126: '<eof>' expected near 'end' ". I don't know if I fixed it or not. If you still get the error, contact me as I'm not getting the error. This is even more true if your locale is not English!

v.1.0f beta test updated frame.lua for locale support. In Lib folder all the lua files have been updated for locale support. Translations of buttons and guides required. So for now anything but English won't show. If you wish you may downgrade to v.1.0e during the process of translation.

v.1.0e beta test updated frame.lua in preparation for locale support. Locale support is not active at this time, until I can't work out any bugs. Updated alchemy, blacksmithing and enchanting guides for hyperlinks. Blacksmithing and enchanting items needed are prepped for checklist frame. Checklist is still in process of being developed. Any translations of the guides MUST contain the hyperlinks and not alter the original system in order to be official to Professional. I will include a readme for the guides for translations in the near future. Updated Lib/About.lua

v.1.0d beta test changed frame.xml to allow a more dynamic textstring scroll within a framescroll. Tested all guides for length not getting cutoff and appears to work.

v.1.0c beta test with improved Alchemy guide including partial hyperlinks (like in the chat channels). Addition of Cooking as per request. I don't have a guide written for it yet, so if anyone wishes to contribute a guide to speed up the process, please do. ScrollingFrame text does not scroll. (please help on this if you know the solution. preferably with out fuaxscrollframe. Mine is based from TradeTrax help window, which does not use such a method that I'm aware of.)

v.1.0b beta test with full data. known bug is scrolling does not seem to work.

v.1.0a alpha test to see if most functions work

As I've not heard anything from megamanzteam, I'm currently working on a major update. It will be based off of the 1.0h coding that many have liked as it gives you the freedom to view whatever profession guide you wish. At this time however, I will only be focusing on the primary professions. Archaeology will not be added to the guides as it's a bit dummy proof and there are already several addons to help with it such as Archy. Expect word on the update in roughly a week.

To let those who are still following this, it is NOT dead. RL issues have developed for myself and have caused a delay. We are still working on this so not to worry lol

Well the new code is giving me troubles and may delay my planned launch of the alpha. Right now it is the guide frame display logic. If I can condense the engine more the load and memory usage should be better (I hope).

As always I will gladly accept any help programming this since I'm a beginner with lua for WoW.

I'm re-working the code to be Cata ready. Guide formats might change, we shall see. This is not dead, just taking a while since I suck at programming. And now with my new wicked sweet hardware I might be able to do things again ^.^ !

Stay tuned for updates when they become available.

    How's the project coming megaman?!
Looks real good, good job man.

Sorry for the late reply, seems I don't get the automated email for comments to respond too. Work has been keeping me way too busy, but during this x-mas time I plan on getting an alpha of the new addon out.
With any luck it will be slimmer and smexier than before (and hopefully working without issue.)

The updates are coming. Last I talked to him, I do believe he's getting really close. My PC recently crashed on me and caused me to lose all of the work I had done to the guides themselves, so I have to start over again. Good thing I have my notes lol. Anyhow, just be patient with us a little bit more as you have so far and we'll get the update out as soon as we can.

Hello everyone, been a while since there was any word from those of us working on the guides. Currently, I am in the process of redoing each guide so that they are quicker and a bit cheaper. Also, the addon IS working with the most recent patch and have yet to see any bugs. The updates to the guides are going to take some time so please be patient and with luck will have it done in a few weeks to a month. Also, I will be releasing the guides all at once and not one by one. Thanks again for your patience and keep using!

@miss20 Have to have your engineering window open and then open professional in order for it to pick it up. Just tested it on my warlock and it works fine.

i am also an enginer but it will noit let me see the guid saying that i do not have it. can you please work on a fix as i like this adon

There appears to be an issue in the Enchanting guide not going beyond the "Master Enchanting (275-350)" page. My skill just hit 350, I trained up to GM, reopened my skill window and reopened Professional and it's still on the old tab?
Am I doing something wrong? Not sure how else to get it to refresh my skill?
Thanks in advance for any assistance!

I am an engineer and the addon tells me that I am not. How do i get the addon to recognize my profession. Also, it will give me a enchanting guide even though it also says I am not an enchanter, but wont show me the engineering guide.
  • #61
sorry, dont see the point why show all the professions when u can only see the 1's your training for?
i liked the old version, when some1 was stuck on something in the guild, i pulled this baby up and showed them where to go. now i have to do the old fashioned way and search the internet for it again.
nice idea though and i appreciate the hard work, just please make it so we can view all guides if we need too!!
    thx

Seems like you only scan for professions when a profession window is open? I have skinning 324 and Inscription 1, if i open the inscription window i can view the skinning guide, but it shows me 1-75. I think something is being done wrong here.. ;)
  • #60
You are correct, I know of this issue, but I won't be working on a fix as I'm trying to again (3rd or 4th major change) redesign the engine for the guides. I do work on it off and on when ideas come to me to better improve the addon. I don't have an eta on when a new version is released.

Also I apologize that I did not reply sooner to your comments, but I guess Curse doesn't want to notify me of every comment made.
