About SpellTips

SpellTips is an addon that will modify your tooltips to show approximately how much damage or healing a spell will really do with Spell Power gear equipped. All tooltips are affected now even pets (only water elemental's currently) and the trainer window are supported so you must disable it from the UI screen to see base values anywhere. It is simplistic by design and coded to be very efficient.

Plans:

- Find appropriate modifiers for the spells currently supported. - ongoing effort

- Clean up code - ongoing effort

- Translation - need people to report errors and try to fix them

- Hope for Blizzard to realize what a mistake it is for them to not be doing this in the default UI and then get it done themselves so that the values will be truly accurate. - expected 9 months after I quit the game ;p

Known Bugs:

- Several spells have slightly inaccurate values due to lack of information, please test and give feedback.

- Localization is up to users to help fix, if you notice something not working then look in the locale file for your language and fix the patterns to match the text for the spell correctly. If you really can't figure it out then post your language and classes of your characters and I'll update them.

- Glyphs are not supported and I have no plans to support them because although some glyphs are very straight forward in the effect they give, others drastically change spells and would be a nightmare to accommodate so I'm discriminating against them all.

Compatibility update for 4.0-4.2. The tables for spell data are not yet updated so numbers will not be accurate.

    Dead mod?
  • #246
For the time being I have no idea what I want to do with this addon if anything at all. WoW 4.0 spell tooltips are a mess. Many spells (especially primary ones) don't say anything about the damage/healing they do, some spells say a specific number although they seem to still have a range, and sometimes that number seems fairly accurate as though the tooltip accounts for spell power but other times it seems way off still.

I don't play WoW anymore but I would be willing to update the addon if I had a clear solution to this mess.

why not have the original tooltip and writing it like this instead

blasts the target for () to () shadow damage

then you can se the base dmg of all spells at the same time
also, adding for AP shuld be nice

what i understand from your earlyer replayes u dont like the wotlk, all i can se is that i recomend you buying it, its not easymode realy. it is abit to easy to get "ok" gear but thats just good, for alts that is

is there anyway you can make this work for the spells of all classes? and not jus casters? like my death knight... i hate seein frost or blood plague say they only do 100 dmg each tick when they really do over 300 cuz of my AP...

Now that wowwiki has an attack power coefficent page (http://www.wowwiki.com/Attack_power_coefficient) it is feasible, but I don't have much motivation to code for or play wow at the moment. It will take a significant amount of time to convert the data for use within the addon.
  • #242
well is there any other mods out there that acts like spell tips but goes for AP as well?
  • #244
Try DrDamage, it doesn't look that way but it gives all the info you might need, even stuff like 'damage points per runic power used' etc.

    Fixed in 3.2.1

    70 spells.

This addon hasn't needed any major changes to the code, all it needs is for people to point out errors with coefficients so that they can be updated. You can edit the coefficients and talents in SpellTable.en.lua relatively easily.

Post bugs to the curseforge bug tracker and include a link to your talent build, what the tooltip says, and what the spell actually does. http://wow.curseforge.com/addons/project-3271/tickets/

I'm almost piddling happily in glee ^^ :p

    Can't wait to try! :D

I should have also said ALL I want is for my Health & mana bars to give a number count on them instead of just being blank bars
  • #233
Just downloaded this and its not showing any additional info on my spells at all. Is this only for mages as I am a warlock.
  • #232
Throughout beta they were changing coefficients on a weekly basis, much too often to devote any time whatsoever towards tracking. I'm still not confident that they have any semblance of balance going into release but I'll start nailing down the coefficients that I can. The only 60+ casters that I have are a priest, mage, and (mostly only prot gear) paladin so I'll need a lot of feedback.
