Version 102 - WoD Quests and the new Community Editor!

  • Fixed an issue where map icons were not being removed properly, leading to duplication.

Version 101 - WoD Quests and the new Community Editor!

Over the past few months I have been preparing for WoD, and have also been working hard on a new out-of-game Community Editor tool so that its much easier for everyone to have their input into the QC database, and together make it as accurate as possible.

IMPORTANT NOTE: At first my primary goal is to ensure there are full and accurate quest listings per zone for WoD, map pins, etc will come after (And support for map pins will be added to the Community Editor).

  • Hopefully most quests are now in the database.
  • There are ALOT of behind the scenes changes, so if I have broken something please let me know.
  • Not all faction\race\class flags are going to be perfect at this stage, so you may want to adjust filters as needed.

Community Editor Live!

I have hosted my QC database online, and written some software which allows me to generate the Lua code for the addon directly from this central data. This software enables anyone to view the database outside of the game, and also allows the community to contribute corrections if they spot any on their travels (Viewing is available to everyone, you need to contact me for sign on details if you want to save changes). This is obviously completely optional, but your changes are audited then saved directly back to the live database, and will be included in the next iteration of the add-on automatically!

The software can be accessed as a Microsoft ClickOnce application: Here

Still plenty of work to do (Support for map pins, etc on the way), but here is a peek of what the basic quest editor looks like:

Community Editor

Features

  • Lists all quests for each zone.
  • Provides at-a-glance quest feedback, which other similar quest trackers do not. For example a yellow "!" for uncompleted quests, a blue "!" or "?" for Daily and Repeatable quests and so on. This helps prevent confusion, as blizzard never concider Repeatables or Dailys "completed". It also flags special quests as orange, for example the collectors edition quests, or quests which can no longer be done.
  • Automatically switches zones as you travel around the world.
  • Allows you to view or hide quests for the opposing force, or for other classes.
  • Quest tooltips when hovering over them on the QC list.
  • Quest icons will appear on the world map for quest you have not yet completed.
  • Functionality to display what quests are "In Progress" when browsing the quest lists. If a quest is in progress (i.e In your quest log), then you will see either a grey "?" or a yellow "?", reflecting if the quest is "in progress but not complete" or "in progress and ready to hand in".
  • Supports server query.

Any feedback would be great.

This is a Blizzard problem - I have noticed it myself. For some reason Blizzard have recently started flagging daily quests as completed, which they didnt use to do.

Unfurtuantely there isnt an easy way for me to fix this. When a server query is run they return the daily quests as complete, but then flag them as non-complete the following day (Which I can't really detect)

I hope that they fix this.

How do we know when the server query has worked?  I've been online for 20+ minutes and it still isn't clearing completed quests.

  • #788

You will know that it has worked because it will notify you in the chat box that "X amount of quests have been flagged completed", or something similar. Blizzard throttle the server queries server-side, only allowing the command to be executed so many times within certain time constraints. Unfortunately there isnt much I can do about this.

In Elwynn Forest the Quest Dead-tooth Jack is obsolete according to Wowhead
    http://www.wowhead.com/quest=1667/dead-tooth-jack

Maybe it would be nice to remove it from the map?

I just checked with a 10th level warrior and quest 1667 "Dead-tooth Jack" is not being offered.

  • #784

I am getting mixed messages on this one, some people saying it is removed and others saying they completed it themselves. Does anyone have any solid answer on this (From recent playthroughs?)? Wowhead has flagged quests in the past as obsolete when they haven't been.

It would be nice if there was an option to enhance the quest log to show the quest levels. Had to download a separate addon just to do that.

Hi  I have one problem with this last version. I have Pandaria full of quests but everiwhere else i have nothing or 1 or 2 .

  • #782

This may appear to happen as a panda, as I still have a lot of work to do in flagging the old world quests which pandas can complete. As a workaround you can switch off the race filter and the quests will appear.

Seems that some quests are showing up on the world map even though I have this feature disabled.

This is happening to me too. I'm also seeing daily quests showing on the map that aren't valid (since they can rotate between different sets per day).

There is no way to detect what random dailies will be active, all quests will always be shown. As for the ! Icons with no tooltips when you hover over them, these are Blizzards own.

  • #777

The few icons which appear are actually put in by Blizzard. It's their way of leading you to the non-linear quest hubs for your level, or to point you in the direction of where to go next.

  • #775

I would like to help with adding Pandaren to the QC but I'm not sure how to do it or where to go. If you can point me in the right direction I will do what I can. Thanks...Cool

I am going through all the Horde starting areas with my Panda but there are no quests showing up.  When I went to the Orc and Troll starting areas it worked fine i think. (first time back at WoW after not playing for about 4 years).  In Undead starter area only one quest showed up.  Now I am in Blood Elf starter area and nothing is showing at all.

Edit: Umm I was having another look at the filters and UNchecked Hide Other Race & Class Quests and now I see all the quests available and completed for the starting areas.  There are some for each race that are only available for that race now.  (use to be able to do them). So an option to hide other class quest but show other race quests would be nice.

There is a quest in Eversong quest ID 9067 The Party Never Ends which my Panda could not turn in until I logged out, deactivated the mod, and logged back in. (It showed on the map but when I got to the quest guy there was not ? over his head until I deactivated).
