Version 102 - WoD Quests and the new Community Editor!

  • Fixed an issue where map icons were not being removed properly, leading to duplication.

Version 101 - WoD Quests and the new Community Editor!

Over the past few months I have been preparing for WoD, and have also been working hard on a new out-of-game Community Editor tool so that its much easier for everyone to have their input into the QC database, and together make it as accurate as possible.

IMPORTANT NOTE: At first my primary goal is to ensure there are full and accurate quest listings per zone for WoD, map pins, etc will come after (And support for map pins will be added to the Community Editor).

  • Hopefully most quests are now in the database.
  • There are ALOT of behind the scenes changes, so if I have broken something please let me know.
  • Not all faction\race\class flags are going to be perfect at this stage, so you may want to adjust filters as needed.

Community Editor Live!

I have hosted my QC database online, and written some software which allows me to generate the Lua code for the addon directly from this central data. This software enables anyone to view the database outside of the game, and also allows the community to contribute corrections if they spot any on their travels (Viewing is available to everyone, you need to contact me for sign on details if you want to save changes). This is obviously completely optional, but your changes are audited then saved directly back to the live database, and will be included in the next iteration of the add-on automatically!

The software can be accessed as a Microsoft ClickOnce application: Here

Still plenty of work to do (Support for map pins, etc on the way), but here is a peek of what the basic quest editor looks like:

Community Editor

Features

  • Lists all quests for each zone.
  • Provides at-a-glance quest feedback, which other similar quest trackers do not. For example a yellow "!" for uncompleted quests, a blue "!" or "?" for Daily and Repeatable quests and so on. This helps prevent confusion, as blizzard never concider Repeatables or Dailys "completed". It also flags special quests as orange, for example the collectors edition quests, or quests which can no longer be done.
  • Automatically switches zones as you travel around the world.
  • Allows you to view or hide quests for the opposing force, or for other classes.
  • Quest tooltips when hovering over them on the QC list.
  • Quest icons will appear on the world map for quest you have not yet completed.
  • Functionality to display what quests are "In Progress" when browsing the quest lists. If a quest is in progress (i.e In your quest log), then you will see either a grey "?" or a yellow "?", reflecting if the quest is "in progress but not complete" or "in progress and ready to hand in".
  • Supports server query.

Any feedback would be great.

Just a quick update. Work is still going on in the background, especally to get a MoP beta version out sometime soon. Probably gonna be a couple of weeks as I am away on holiday and will be spending a few days building a new rig.

Thank you for this addon, its truely been great for the loremaster hunt. While using your addon for nearly a month I have encounter a few places were there could be some improvements.

    There are few problems/improvements

    1) Some quests has been skipped/forgotten on some zones - ex. "jagged shard" quest in Icecrown and similar quests missing here and there in different zones

    2) Option to hide dailies
    3) Tracking how many quests you are missing which a certain faction and if possible their names (this require a lot of work, i know)

Once again, I thank you for the addon and I cant even begin to imagne how much time you must have spend on it. I how you will use some of my suggestions

If you need help with the changes for MoP let me know, as I have already gotten Wholly/Grail working for them and the code changes for what Grail needed are not too bad.

Loving this addon! It's awesome. The only thing I wish for is that you could choose to hide the daily quests. Sometimes those blue marks get in the way of the yellow ones.

  • #696

Wow, the UI of it is awesome... way better than blizzards default ui

Singing the praises of Quest Completist!  I've been working on the Loremaster title and this addon has helped me find those last few that I couldn't find!  Thank you SO much for creating this wonderful addon!

Just a request for this to be updated on wowinterface.com also - my system gets along with that website much better than this one, alas. (Linux box...)

Thank you! I look forward to enjoying this addon! :)

This addon is amazing!  I've been going crazy being just two quests short for Loremaster in Blade's Edge and this has helped me find them.  Thank you so much!

I'm enjoying this addon quite a bit and it's been saving me a lot of headaches :D I am curious however, is there a way to integrate a waypoint? Sort of like the way the addon "Loremaster" works, with TomTom and Carbonite, etc? Basically you click the quest listed and then there is a button to toggle a waypoint to direct you towards the target?

  • #689

TomTom waypoints is fully supported for quests which have been migrated to the new mapping format (At the moment about 60% of all of them). Simply click the quest on the main list and it will add the paypoint.

I do not know the internal mechanics of Quest Completist, but integrating a TomTom waypoint is not difficult.  I have put one into Wholly and it is only a couple lines of code.  You may want to check that out.
