Version 102 - WoD Quests and the new Community Editor!

  • Fixed an issue where map icons were not being removed properly, leading to duplication.

Version 101 - WoD Quests and the new Community Editor!

Over the past few months I have been preparing for WoD, and have also been working hard on a new out-of-game Community Editor tool so that its much easier for everyone to have their input into the QC database, and together make it as accurate as possible.

IMPORTANT NOTE: At first my primary goal is to ensure there are full and accurate quest listings per zone for WoD, map pins, etc will come after (And support for map pins will be added to the Community Editor).

  • Hopefully most quests are now in the database.
  • There are ALOT of behind the scenes changes, so if I have broken something please let me know.
  • Not all faction\race\class flags are going to be perfect at this stage, so you may want to adjust filters as needed.

Community Editor Live!

I have hosted my QC database online, and written some software which allows me to generate the Lua code for the addon directly from this central data. This software enables anyone to view the database outside of the game, and also allows the community to contribute corrections if they spot any on their travels (Viewing is available to everyone, you need to contact me for sign on details if you want to save changes). This is obviously completely optional, but your changes are audited then saved directly back to the live database, and will be included in the next iteration of the add-on automatically!

The software can be accessed as a Microsoft ClickOnce application: Here

Still plenty of work to do (Support for map pins, etc on the way), but here is a peek of what the basic quest editor looks like:

Community Editor

Features

  • Lists all quests for each zone.
  • Provides at-a-glance quest feedback, which other similar quest trackers do not. For example a yellow "!" for uncompleted quests, a blue "!" or "?" for Daily and Repeatable quests and so on. This helps prevent confusion, as blizzard never concider Repeatables or Dailys "completed". It also flags special quests as orange, for example the collectors edition quests, or quests which can no longer be done.
  • Automatically switches zones as you travel around the world.
  • Allows you to view or hide quests for the opposing force, or for other classes.
  • Quest tooltips when hovering over them on the QC list.
  • Quest icons will appear on the world map for quest you have not yet completed.
  • Functionality to display what quests are "In Progress" when browsing the quest lists. If a quest is in progress (i.e In your quest log), then you will see either a grey "?" or a yellow "?", reflecting if the quest is "in progress but not complete" or "in progress and ready to hand in".
  • Supports server query.

Any feedback would be great.

Hey I'm having pretty bad problems. Prior to this update, the addon wasn't working at all for some BC zones. Now it shows the quests on the map, but it duplicates their listing everytime I open my map. And sometimes quest markers from other zones I look at will be transposed onto every other zone.

Also when I perform a server query, the chat text says all the proper things, but it doesn't actually update and resets all quests to undone. For some reason, when I login, the map correctly shows which Shadowmoon Valley quests are done, but it won't update Hellfire Peninsula at all. Which is weird because Hellfire Peninsula was one of the only BC zones that worked correctly before this update.

Oh, weird. There have been a lot of changes since last version to work with WoD, I'll look into that when I am home from work, but try a complete uninstall of the add-on and install from fresh again to see if it makes a difference.

The duplication happens in every area. The transposed quests happen in every area.

    Here's some error text

Error in Shadowmoon Valley, looking at different zones

I'll check it out later, along with anything else you'd like. This addon has been amazing for me.

  • #1012

Ok thanks for the bug, i'll look into it ASAP. Have you noticed, is it only some zones or all that you get these duplicates?

  • #1011

I have the same problem. Tried to clean install. Unfortunately that didn't solve the case.

  • #1007

I was waiting for the update!

    Thank you thank you!

  • #1006

Can't disable any option after enabling it.

  • #1005

Is it possible to remove the yellow exclamation point from both maps (main and mini) when a quest is "in progress? Many times I have run to a spot to get a quest and realized I already had the quest in my list. Just a suggestion.

  • #1022

Yes, there is an option for that in the settings.

    ADDON UPDATE:

Hoping to have a version of the addon out this weekend coming, along with the first version of the Community Editor! It won't be perfect, but it will be a solid start.

My main goal initially will be getting complete and accurate quest listings per zone, not map icons - those will come after, and will also eventually be incorporated into the Community Editor.

  • #1002

Is there any known issues with the current version?

  • #1003

Lots, but I am actively working on a new version as well as a community database editor
