Version 102 - WoD Quests and the new Community Editor!

  • Fixed an issue where map icons were not being removed properly, leading to duplication.

Version 101 - WoD Quests and the new Community Editor!

Over the past few months I have been preparing for WoD, and have also been working hard on a new out-of-game Community Editor tool so that its much easier for everyone to have their input into the QC database, and together make it as accurate as possible.

IMPORTANT NOTE: At first my primary goal is to ensure there are full and accurate quest listings per zone for WoD, map pins, etc will come after (And support for map pins will be added to the Community Editor).

  • Hopefully most quests are now in the database.
  • There are ALOT of behind the scenes changes, so if I have broken something please let me know.
  • Not all faction\race\class flags are going to be perfect at this stage, so you may want to adjust filters as needed.

Community Editor Live!

I have hosted my QC database online, and written some software which allows me to generate the Lua code for the addon directly from this central data. This software enables anyone to view the database outside of the game, and also allows the community to contribute corrections if they spot any on their travels (Viewing is available to everyone, you need to contact me for sign on details if you want to save changes). This is obviously completely optional, but your changes are audited then saved directly back to the live database, and will be included in the next iteration of the add-on automatically!

The software can be accessed as a Microsoft ClickOnce application: Here

Still plenty of work to do (Support for map pins, etc on the way), but here is a peek of what the basic quest editor looks like:

Community Editor

Features

  • Lists all quests for each zone.
  • Provides at-a-glance quest feedback, which other similar quest trackers do not. For example a yellow "!" for uncompleted quests, a blue "!" or "?" for Daily and Repeatable quests and so on. This helps prevent confusion, as blizzard never concider Repeatables or Dailys "completed". It also flags special quests as orange, for example the collectors edition quests, or quests which can no longer be done.
  • Automatically switches zones as you travel around the world.
  • Allows you to view or hide quests for the opposing force, or for other classes.
  • Quest tooltips when hovering over them on the QC list.
  • Quest icons will appear on the world map for quest you have not yet completed.
  • Functionality to display what quests are "In Progress" when browsing the quest lists. If a quest is in progress (i.e In your quest log), then you will see either a grey "?" or a yellow "?", reflecting if the quest is "in progress but not complete" or "in progress and ready to hand in".
  • Supports server query.

Any feedback would be great.

There are no quests in Draenor.
What to do? Or a bug?

  • #1054

  • #1051

The quest will not be shown on the map as eg. in BC or Northrend. Please update

  • #1050

Map filters don't seem to work. The addon will always show all the quests.

  • #1049

Sorry but this was useless. Not showing ANY quests on the map and sending server request has no return.

  • #1052

    Same problem here (In Draenor)

  • #1046

Notised that faction experinece  you get arent inplemented. are this something you can fetch from server in future version ore does it need to be done manualy trought the editor when the feature becomes avalible there?

  • #1047

Unfortunately blizzard do not provide an API that exposes reputation gains, so I will have to try and collect this manually with the help of the community.

  • #1043

    A few things...

    1. Some quests on my map in northrend say "nil". What does that mean?

    2. I'll go to some quest areas in northrend and there won't be any questgivers... Like no exclaimation mark above their heads. Why is this?

  • #1044

Northrend is probably one of the most needy parts of the world at the moment, it still needs some love. Although there may not be all the icons, you should still have the quest listings. As for icons above the NPC heads, if you are too high level for the zone, you need to switch on the low level quest tracking using the spyglass at your minimap.

I strongly agree with Xalotha. Honestly nothing compared to questhubber addon but sadly it has not been updated and i do not think it will be anymore. So I have to use a different one between this and Wholly/Grail but neither removes quests I have completed off of my map. At least make my live alittle better without questhubber and get to that standard and make sure your addon correctly works. I hope this is fixed VERY soon.

  • #1048

You must be the most ungrateful dude I've ever seen. Who do you think you're since you're sitting there and commanding the creator of this addon?

  • #1042

This add-on and the others you mentioned all support flagging quests as completed when they are handed in, as well as server query to flag previous quests complete.

Make your life easier and raise the standard? The WoW community write these addons in are spare time, normally alongside full time jobs. That's even more of a commitment when it comes to one that needs to change everytime blizzard create new quests. I'm not here to match anyone else's standard. Use it or don't, up to you. Or if you think you can do a better job, please feel free.

  • #1040

I'm sorry, maybe I'm just stupid but I've tried to get this right like 45minutes. It's very confusing. I've checked the boxes I want, hide quests I've already done, only show for my faction etc. I see pretty many quest marks on my map. But when I get there, nope, nothing. Nothing at all. At any of the marks I see. I've tried this in Vashj'ir but I don't get any progress at all :/  36 quests left and can't find a single one. And yes, before you ask, I've checked the box on the magnifying glass near the map to show the low level quests for me. If someone knows what I do wrong please help me.

  • #1039

Took me a while to understand this addon. Not sure I fully understand it yet, haha. But 1 thing I noticed, is it doesn't show any quests in Icecrown. At least not for me. And I have like 15 quests left to get achievement from there.
