Version 102 - WoD Quests and the new Community Editor!

  • Fixed an issue where map icons were not being removed properly, leading to duplication.

Version 101 - WoD Quests and the new Community Editor!

Over the past few months I have been preparing for WoD, and have also been working hard on a new out-of-game Community Editor tool so that its much easier for everyone to have their input into the QC database, and together make it as accurate as possible.

IMPORTANT NOTE: At first my primary goal is to ensure there are full and accurate quest listings per zone for WoD, map pins, etc will come after (And support for map pins will be added to the Community Editor).

  • Hopefully most quests are now in the database.
  • There are ALOT of behind the scenes changes, so if I have broken something please let me know.
  • Not all faction\race\class flags are going to be perfect at this stage, so you may want to adjust filters as needed.

Community Editor Live!

I have hosted my QC database online, and written some software which allows me to generate the Lua code for the addon directly from this central data. This software enables anyone to view the database outside of the game, and also allows the community to contribute corrections if they spot any on their travels (Viewing is available to everyone, you need to contact me for sign on details if you want to save changes). This is obviously completely optional, but your changes are audited then saved directly back to the live database, and will be included in the next iteration of the add-on automatically!

The software can be accessed as a Microsoft ClickOnce application: Here

Still plenty of work to do (Support for map pins, etc on the way), but here is a peek of what the basic quest editor looks like:

Community Editor

Features

  • Lists all quests for each zone.
  • Provides at-a-glance quest feedback, which other similar quest trackers do not. For example a yellow "!" for uncompleted quests, a blue "!" or "?" for Daily and Repeatable quests and so on. This helps prevent confusion, as blizzard never concider Repeatables or Dailys "completed". It also flags special quests as orange, for example the collectors edition quests, or quests which can no longer be done.
  • Automatically switches zones as you travel around the world.
  • Allows you to view or hide quests for the opposing force, or for other classes.
  • Quest tooltips when hovering over them on the QC list.
  • Quest icons will appear on the world map for quest you have not yet completed.
  • Functionality to display what quests are "In Progress" when browsing the quest lists. If a quest is in progress (i.e In your quest log), then you will see either a grey "?" or a yellow "?", reflecting if the quest is "in progress but not complete" or "in progress and ready to hand in".
  • Supports server query.

Any feedback would be great.

I am in the process of setting something more dedicated up for reporting things. Bear with me for a few days and it should be up and running.

The addon is great but don't get waypoint if i select a quest and have install tomtom.
  • #507
This will be back in the next version.

"QC now supports filtering seasonal quests so that they only show on the map if they are currently active. So far this only applies to Harvest Festival and Brewfest - because this feature is only supported when the quests are converted into the new mapping system. Seasonal quests which still rely on the older mapping system will still show at all times (This will be fixed as the seasonal events come around again)."

But it means that you will remove the old quest as soon as you finished with the normal quest conversion?
  • #505
When a quest is converted to the new database and map system, the quest is removed from the previous database, effectively removing the old map icons at the same time.
  • #508
You mean you will keep the old database until next summer (Midsummer Festival 2012)?
  • #509
Probably not no, and even if it was still hanging around, it would be very small by that stage.

The more and more I get converted into the new system the smaller the old DB will become. Once it finally gets to the stage where most of the remaining quests are seasonal ones, I will likely just delete them and re-build them from scratch when the event itself comes around (Like I've done with the Brewfest).

In an ideal world, the 'hide completed quests' filter wouldn't include daily quests....
  • #501
The addon itself doesn't flag daily or repeatable quests as completed. The only time this will happen is if blizzard flag them as completed in the return value of a server query, or if you completed the quest before it wa added to the database, and then installed a version with the quests afterwards (eg Brewfest).

Under normal situations this should never normally flag them complete.
  • #500
For me its okay, it would be a pain in the ass to look for dailies otherwise. Maybe an extra option to hide them specifically.

ViduusEU, thanks for the update, keep up your good work!
Btw why dont you include the Broker support in your addon? It shouldnt be much of a work.
  • #503
I don't use broker myself so just never quite got around to it. I am also not sure if you are forced to use dependencies or libraries to get it working or if there is a way to do it without them. I would rather not have extra Libs to rely on for the core package, however if the other addon is not updated again I may release my own broker support add-on, but one that keeps up to date with the core add-on.
  • #498
you should update this to show the order in which you get the quests instead of alphabetically
  • #502
This is hard to do as the quest tree is complex and there isn't a fixed order to do quests. Your best bet is to change to By Level sorting, which should be closer than alphabetical.
  • #496
Did you package this update correctly? I ask because when I unzip it, it makes a new file called "QuestCompleteList - Copy" alongside with the old QuestCompleteList in the addons folder.
  • #497
Whoops, yea it's packaged wrong. I'll upload a new version, in the meantime you can just manually rename the folder and it should work fine, the code itself is the new version.
