Version 102 - WoD Quests and the new Community Editor!

  • Fixed an issue where map icons were not being removed properly, leading to duplication.

Version 101 - WoD Quests and the new Community Editor!

Over the past few months I have been preparing for WoD, and have also been working hard on a new out-of-game Community Editor tool so that its much easier for everyone to have their input into the QC database, and together make it as accurate as possible.

IMPORTANT NOTE: At first my primary goal is to ensure there are full and accurate quest listings per zone for WoD, map pins, etc will come after (And support for map pins will be added to the Community Editor).

  • Hopefully most quests are now in the database.
  • There are ALOT of behind the scenes changes, so if I have broken something please let me know.
  • Not all faction\race\class flags are going to be perfect at this stage, so you may want to adjust filters as needed.

Community Editor Live!

I have hosted my QC database online, and written some software which allows me to generate the Lua code for the addon directly from this central data. This software enables anyone to view the database outside of the game, and also allows the community to contribute corrections if they spot any on their travels (Viewing is available to everyone, you need to contact me for sign on details if you want to save changes). This is obviously completely optional, but your changes are audited then saved directly back to the live database, and will be included in the next iteration of the add-on automatically!

The software can be accessed as a Microsoft ClickOnce application: Here

Still plenty of work to do (Support for map pins, etc on the way), but here is a peek of what the basic quest editor looks like:

Community Editor

Features

  • Lists all quests for each zone.
  • Provides at-a-glance quest feedback, which other similar quest trackers do not. For example a yellow "!" for uncompleted quests, a blue "!" or "?" for Daily and Repeatable quests and so on. This helps prevent confusion, as blizzard never concider Repeatables or Dailys "completed". It also flags special quests as orange, for example the collectors edition quests, or quests which can no longer be done.
  • Automatically switches zones as you travel around the world.
  • Allows you to view or hide quests for the opposing force, or for other classes.
  • Quest tooltips when hovering over them on the QC list.
  • Quest icons will appear on the world map for quest you have not yet completed.
  • Functionality to display what quests are "In Progress" when browsing the quest lists. If a quest is in progress (i.e In your quest log), then you will see either a grey "?" or a yellow "?", reflecting if the quest is "in progress but not complete" or "in progress and ready to hand in".
  • Supports server query.

Any feedback would be great.

is this addon going to get updated anytime soon?

  • #997

    As soon™ as I can manage! =)

  • #1001

That would be awesome, can't wait to be able to easily check all the quests EVER (not loremastering).

If you need some help shoot me a message in private. I code in PHP/SQL and most of client-side languages. Not LUA though.

well GL on that and can not wait. there is nothing more anoying then having to search hours for that one quest to finish the story line or to get lore master

Hello there, I am having a problem with the addon. It shows to me that the quests I have already completed as uncompleted, which you can understand that is a huge problem as I cannot find out which is right and wrong and cannot progress as I want.

For example I am at the Vale of the four winds and there is a quest of "A crocolisk tale" which I clearly remember that I have completed and I also checked it in icy veins wquest checker to make sure that I indeed completed it and in the addon seems that I haven't done it still.

Do you know why this might happen?

    Thanks in advance

I'm having some sort of trouble with this addon. I just installed and it does queries fine and all, the only problem I have is that no window appears at all when I hover the quest marks on the world map. I tried disabling every addon and just leave QC on, and nothing... I even tried Littledude's solution from the previous page, but still no luck... The quest marks are there, but no window pops when I hover the mouse over them :(

All you should need to do is change the frame level of the map pins to get their tooltips to display.  This is what I did in Wholly to get it to work.

  • #993

Sorry, I did a reply to the wrong post.  You have to edit the addon code to do this.  Unless you want to edit the code, you will probably have to wait to see if this addon is updated.

  • #992

and how did you do that? I've been looking around the interface settings, but can't find it. Does it need an addon?

  • #990

This is a problem that has been caused by Blizzard changing how the map and quest log works. I'll have a fix out hopefully shortly after WoD release.

  • #995

Awesome, thanks for the heads up! :)

    miss this addon so much

  • #983

    Release type shows inactive. :(((((((((

It was great to check which quests had been completed/cancelled/yet to be achieved.  Especially when I would miss a link in the quest line then had to go backwards to pick the link up again.

    Miss this already.

An update will be released after the launch of WoD (As soon as I manage to get one out)
