About Quest Completist

Quest Completist

Enables you to see what quests you have completed, and what ones you still have to do. Supports server query, allowing you to query the blizzard server for all quests you have completed in the past.

Use /qc or /questc to open the main interface, or assign a key binding.

Hold left-shift and click to toggle completed status, hold left-alt and click to toggle unattainable status.

Version 105 - Garrison Pin Removal, Community Editor Thanks

  • Thanks to all members of the community using the Community Editor (Info below). All the quest tweaks you have made are automatically included within this release. Please continue contributing!
  • I have disabled map pins in the Horde and Alliance Garrison zones. These were overly messy, inaccurate due to people having buildings in different places, and were questionably useful as you will pretty much always see a "!" if you are in that zone. Obviously the quests still exist in the quest listings of the UI.

Community Editor Live!

I have hosted my QC database online, and written some software which allows me to generate the Lua code for the addon directly from this central data. This software enables anyone to view the database outside of the game, and also allows the community to contribute corrections if they spot any on their travels (Viewing is available to everyone, you need to contact me for sign on details if you want to save changes). This is obviously completely optional, but your changes are audited then saved directly back to the live database, and will be included in the next iteration of the add-on automatically!

The software can be accessed as a Microsoft ClickOnce application: Here

Still plenty of work to do (Support for map pins, etc on the way), but here is a peek of what the basic quest editor looks like:

Community Editor

Features

  • Lists all quests for each zone.
  • Provides at-a-glance quest feedback, which other similar quest trackers do not. For example a yellow "!" for uncompleted quests, a blue "!" or "?" for Daily and Repeatable quests and so on. This helps prevent confusion, as blizzard never concider Repeatables or Dailys "completed". It also flags special quests as orange, for example the collectors edition quests, or quests which can no longer be done.
  • Automatically switches zones as you travel around the world.
  • Allows you to view or hide quests for the opposing force, or for other classes.
  • Quest tooltips when hovering over them on the QC list.
  • Quest icons will appear on the world map for quest you have not yet completed.
  • Functionality to display what quests are "In Progress" when browsing the quest lists. If a quest is in progress (i.e In your quest log), then you will see either a grey "?" or a yellow "?", reflecting if the quest is "in progress but not complete" or "in progress and ready to hand in".
  • Supports server query.

Any feedback would be great.

Hi.  I believe you are missing two quests from Willian Pestle, level 6 human quest giver, located in the Lion's Pride Inn in Goldshire, in the human starting zone of Elywnn Forest.  They are called "Kobold Candles' leading to  "Shipment to Stormwind."  Sorry I forget to jot down the quest numbers.

Did this quest today and got a message saying it wasn't part of the addon's database.

    http://www.wowhead.com/quest=25887/wake-of-destruction

edit: the quests from the quest chain this starts also say the database doesn't have these quests. Not sure if bug or if people really dont quest into Vashjir :p

Are we any closer to map pins for WoD yet?

  • #1097

Work has already started on this, however I am in the middle of moving house at the moment so have had limited time to work on it due to my internet not being installed yet. On the way though.

You should only need to do it once to populate old quests, new quests should be updated as you do them and the states of each quest stored for future sessions.

    Wonderful, thanks for the reply.

I have another question regarding the server query function.  Should I be needing to do a new query every time I login? It doesn't seem to save the information.

    Grail?

Have you ever considered merging QuestCompletist's database (and means of editing it) with "Grail"?  In case you are unaware, Grail is an existing addon with a comprehensive database of quests and various information about them. It is developed/contributed to in an open manner, and there are many mods that act as a frontend to it, displaying information from its database. Most famously is "Wholly" which is very similar in functionality to QuestCompletist, and "Loremaster"  which helps players find out what quests they have and they need for the Loremaster achievements.

Pooling the resources of the entire "quest database mod" community towards updating and using Grail, seems beneficial for developers and users alike, as well as significantly cutting down the work of any one particular developer in keeping their own quest database up to date. With the developers of QuestCompletist, Wholly, Carbonite, Loremaster, and any other active mods all working on Grail's data, it seems a major load off everyone's back.   Maybe there is an issue I've not thought of, but perhaps this would be a benficial next step for QuestCompletist and the entire community?

I know that the old quests are showing because I need to do a server query.. however, after reading all the comments, all I see is "go to catagories -> settings"    but I do not see that anywhere.  Do I need an additional addon to do a server query?  I'm really confused, sorry.

  • #1093

I had trouble finding it too. It's at that very bottom of the list when you click the categories button.

  • #1094

OH brother.. thanks, I feel silly now not seeing that.

I posted almost a month ago, but never got a response - is there going to be any fix for the issue with there being no arrow in the QC menu for MoP and WoD dungeon quests? All the other zones and the earlier dungeons have the arrow to navigate to specific dungeons, with the exception of these. The individual quests are searchable if you search by name, but it's impossible to navigate directly to them. This is very frustrating because all my characters are at 85+ and working on MoP zones and, shortly, dungeons. It means having to go find a manual list of quests or download the editor. It seems like the sort of thing that in theory should be fairly fixable without much effort, but I may be incorrect and I apologize for making that assumption if I'm wrong. Like I said, it's obvious the quests are in there. There's just no way to view them per dungeon in the game.

Yea should be able to fix this
