Version 102 - WoD Quests and the new Community Editor!

  • Fixed an issue where map icons were not being removed properly, leading to duplication.

Version 101 - WoD Quests and the new Community Editor!

Over the past few months I have been preparing for WoD, and have also been working hard on a new out-of-game Community Editor tool so that its much easier for everyone to have their input into the QC database, and together make it as accurate as possible.

IMPORTANT NOTE: At first my primary goal is to ensure there are full and accurate quest listings per zone for WoD, map pins, etc will come after (And support for map pins will be added to the Community Editor).

  • Hopefully most quests are now in the database.
  • There are ALOT of behind the scenes changes, so if I have broken something please let me know.
  • Not all faction\race\class flags are going to be perfect at this stage, so you may want to adjust filters as needed.

Community Editor Live!

I have hosted my QC database online, and written some software which allows me to generate the Lua code for the addon directly from this central data. This software enables anyone to view the database outside of the game, and also allows the community to contribute corrections if they spot any on their travels (Viewing is available to everyone, you need to contact me for sign on details if you want to save changes). This is obviously completely optional, but your changes are audited then saved directly back to the live database, and will be included in the next iteration of the add-on automatically!

The software can be accessed as a Microsoft ClickOnce application: Here

Still plenty of work to do (Support for map pins, etc on the way), but here is a peek of what the basic quest editor looks like:

Community Editor

Features

  • Lists all quests for each zone.
  • Provides at-a-glance quest feedback, which other similar quest trackers do not. For example a yellow "!" for uncompleted quests, a blue "!" or "?" for Daily and Repeatable quests and so on. This helps prevent confusion, as blizzard never concider Repeatables or Dailys "completed". It also flags special quests as orange, for example the collectors edition quests, or quests which can no longer be done.
  • Automatically switches zones as you travel around the world.
  • Allows you to view or hide quests for the opposing force, or for other classes.
  • Quest tooltips when hovering over them on the QC list.
  • Quest icons will appear on the world map for quest you have not yet completed.
  • Functionality to display what quests are "In Progress" when browsing the quest lists. If a quest is in progress (i.e In your quest log), then you will see either a grey "?" or a yellow "?", reflecting if the quest is "in progress but not complete" or "in progress and ready to hand in".
  • Supports server query.

Any feedback would be great.

Please do not take anything of what I'm typing as disrespectful, as I'm just trying out this addon again, and I can see why people below are confused. I've been working in the games industry, 10 years of it in QA, and even this threw me off for half a minute, and that's only because I used this addon in the past.

The "bold text" you keep referring to in your desription is not indicative of why they are not seeing quests on their maps. Ignoring the section titles and your signature, there are 5 items in bold. The only one that sheds light is: "Supports server query", which is listed at the end, in the features. We still have to dig for this in the menu. Perhaps stating it on the top, that if this done perfomed, the addon will not work as intended? Or make the server query a button visible in the main UI?

    There is no spoon...

  • #1064

I truely thought that this, bold, red text was enough to answer most of the queries...

IMPORTANT NOTE: At first my primary goal is to ensure there are full and accurate quest listings per zone for WoD, map pins, etc will come after (And support for map pins will be added to the Community Editor).

This addon seems not working for me properly. It show so many uncompleted quest everywhere and I know I cleared the zones and only a few left. This is the reason I downloaded this addon to find some hidden quest. Probably it show the opposite faction Qs aswell and the filter do nothing with it.

  • #1058

Can't see any map icons for quest in any map!

  • #1057

I don't see any quest in draenor. Please help.

  • #1056

Checked the boxes to hide completed quests (after i'd been through the zone and installed the addon after).  It showed all the quests - even completed ones.  Box was checked to hide opposite faction quests.  Still showed those too

  • #1055

There are no quests in Draenor.
What to do? Or a bug?

  • #1054

  • #1051

The quest will not be shown on the map as eg. in BC or Northrend. Please update

  • #1050

Map filters don't seem to work. The addon will always show all the quests.

  • #1049

Sorry but this was useless. Not showing ANY quests on the map and sending server request has no return.

  • #1052

    Same problem here (In Draenor)

  • #1046

Notised that faction experinece  you get arent inplemented. are this something you can fetch from server in future version ore does it need to be done manualy trought the editor when the feature becomes avalible there?

  • #1047

Unfortunately blizzard do not provide an API that exposes reputation gains, so I will have to try and collect this manually with the help of the community.

  • #1043

    A few things...

    1. Some quests on my map in northrend say "nil". What does that mean?

    2. I'll go to some quest areas in northrend and there won't be any questgivers... Like no exclaimation mark above their heads. Why is this?
