The "prefix too long" error seems to be caused by changes made to the way that addons communicate post 4.0

I have partially tested a fix which you can make yourself by editing the file:

    World of Warcraft\Interface\Addons\QuestProgressSound\QuestProgressSound.lua

The issue appears to be that 'QuestProgressSound' is used as the name of the comms channel, which is now to long.

If you search for and alter the text "QuestProgressSound" to the text "QPS" on lines 158, 195, 282 and 291 (Ctrl-F to find these on a Windows PC in something like Notepad), it should resolve the issue.

This isn't fully tested on all platforms and your mileage may vary, but seems to resolve the issue for me.

This is the error you get when you progress or finish a quest while in a party:

Having a small issue with this addon... if I'm by myself and questing, there's no issue. But if I'm in a party, every time my quest updates, the game freezes for a second. I don't have anything but the "work complete" sound enabled for quest completion, but it still freezes up for a moment as I progress through a quest. Figured I'd let you know!
  • #29
I got sort of the same issue, except I can see the LUA error.
It's an error in the Ace3 libs. Could be that the libs are not quite updated.
I'll try soon to replace them with the ones from here instead:

no custom sound option :( even renaming your own sounds and copying them in doesnt work :( been hunting for hours to get something along these lines but nothing. enabling even copying and pasting your own sounds into the folder under the names of what is there (ding.ogg for example) would make this an awesome add on.

Hey, love the addon and have been using it for quite some time now without fault. Was just wondering if I could make a request to add Player Progress Sound as there is a party progress sound and I don't always party with others.

    Many thanks

hiho... i really like this addon... i had questguru installed for a very long time and i loved to "hear" my quest progress... im used to that... now i dont wanna use questguru anymore and tried this one... but ive got a little problem...

with this addon active i hear a "bing"-sound when ever my pvp-target uses an ability or when ever i get a procc of my own abilites... this is very annoying... any idea how to fix that??

Sound files are missing and didn't the latest patch require sound files to be .ogg ?
  • #24
Yes you are right, the sounds were not included anymore for the mp3 files didn't work. V 1.10 they returned as ogg files.
  • #22
I noticed the peasant_work_done.mp3 in the QuestProgressSound\\sounds folder isn't showing up in the list of usable sounds.
  • #23
If that's the "Job's done" sound, I'm also missing that one :)

I using the new version, but the volume of the announcements seem very low compared to the previous version (using the Peon sounds).
Is there any way to turn the sounds up?
  • #19
This addon does not change and never will change your settings of volume. I assume you have turned down all you ingame sounds.
  • #21
    Nope, I haven't done that.
The ingame sounds are just a lot louder than the addon announcements.
I'll try to go back to the old version and see if there's any chance.
