About RSA - Raeli's Spell Announcer

Requests, Bugs & Known issues

Please use Curse's Curseforge ticket tracker to create requests, suggestions, or post bug reports:

RSA, Raeli's Spell Announcer, by Raeli of Arathor-EU (Now Maintained by Jenneth), is an addon that aims to help players with the announcement of certain spells, as well as reminding you of important missing buffs. For example, it can detect when you cast Divine Protection, and it will send a message like so:
Divine Protection Example
As you can see, it can announce when it first is cast, and then again when it ends, not only that, but you can customise the messages that are sent.

Type /rsa in game to open in game configuration, or access it through the Blizzard Interface panel.

Spell Announcements

There is the ability to create custom message announcements, you can use certain tags to say what the target is and so on:

  • [SPELL] will be replaced with the name of the spell
  • [LINK] will be replaced by a clickable spell link of the spell cast
  • [TARGET] will be replaced with the target of the spell (only works with spells that can be put on targets other than yourself)
  • [AMOUNT] will be replaced with the amount of damage or healing done (only applicable to certain spells)
  • [MISSTYPE] will be replaced with the type of spell miss (Such as Miss, Immune, Resist again, only available to certain spells)
  • [AURA] will be replaced with the buff or debuff that is removed by dispels
  • [AURALINK] will be replaced with a clickable spell link of the buff or debuff that is removed by dispels
  • [TARCAST] will be replaced by the spell that you have just interrupted
  • [TARLINK] will be replaced by a clickable spell link of the spell that you have just interrupted

Some of these are only usable for certain spells, each spell lists what is available for you to use in game.

If you want to use a percent sign in your message you need to type it twice: %% to allow it to show, else you will receive errors.

If you leave a Start or End message empty, it will simply not announce that part. So if you only want, to say, announce when Divine Protection ends, you leave the Start message empty, and only have an End message set.

You can set where to announce spells:

  • Local - This sends messages to your own chat window, or the raid warning frame or both depending on your setting
  • Raid - Sends a message to the raid chat, if you are in a raid.
  • Party - Sends a message to the party chat, if you are in a party.
  • Smart Party - Sends a message to either instance chat, raid chat or party chat, depending on group size and location.
  • Say
  • Yell
  • Whisper - only when the target it someone else than yourself.
  • Custom Channel - You can send it to a custom channel, like, say, your healing channel. This option is now unique for each spell, so you can send different spell announcements to different places.
  • You can disable Raid/Party/Say/Custom Channel announcements while you have PvP active, if you are Ungrouped, or if you are not in an instance. Whispers and Local messages will always announce if checked.

Buff Reminder Options

You can set what spell you want to track. You can also:

  • Disable reminding while you have PvP active
  • Enable or disable reminding in your primary or secondary specs
  • Set how often you want to be reminded
  • Set where you want the announcements to be sent (local only - visible only to yourself)

There are two different sets of announcements.

Your own individual announcements - these are for your spells, class spells, things like Shield Wall and so on.

Then there are other announcements that will announce (so long as you have them set to), for any that are cast - these are just usually things like repair bots, cauldrons, and other similar things.

You customise where each individual announcement is announced, from a selection of Whisper, Party, Raid, and Say. Some spells obviously can't be announced in whisper. So they're just announced out to anyone in the said channel.

Hey, Would it be possible to have an option or something added to spells like Strangulate that will announce it has been cast on an enemy even if it didn't interupt their spell? Just in case you miss interupting the spell with it by a second or you just plain want to cast it without concern for interupting a spell but would like to let your team mates know?

    Thanks in advance

  • #886

It's certainly an option, but not sure on a time frame to be honest.

I need to get the MoP beta working so I can get on and start seeing if RSA still works, and if it doesn't, what needs fixing.

Excellent addon, been using it for a bit now and it has helped me and my team mates during BGs tremendously. Keep up the awesome work!

been trying to work out how i would add Spirit Mend to the hunter spell list. i recently found a macro that is rlly usefull for manageing how Spirit Mend casts but i would like to announce it as well for a bit to help to the healers so they know a heal(even if its a small one) isnt being wasted.  if you work this out b4 i do pls share/update and if i figure it out ill post here for others

I submitted a ticket about Power Word: Barrier. It hasn't been announcing it in AGES (like months). Please fix it :) Thanks for the awesome addon and all the work you put into it.

  • #883

Someone provided a fix for me - I didn't have much time to test as I was testing other things and bug fixes I was doing, so I just assumed it worked, but I guess it didn't :/

I'll take another look at it when I have time.

I've been playing around on the settings, and doing Battlegrounds while in a premade Party, I can not seem to get my spells announce in Party Chat. I don't want certain things like "disarm" to be announce in bg chat......only party. chat. Can someone help me with the correct settings as how to do this?

  • #881

So first of all you'll want to go to the interface settings or type /rsa to open the options. In the first window that appears, you'll want to make sure that Enable in Battlegrounds (I believe that's the option) is unchecked.

Secondly, you'll want on the left where all the addons are listed to click on Spell Options under RSA. Once there, you'll have to click in the drop down list in the top right and select the name of the spell you want to customise.

From there you can set options such as if it announces in Raid Chat or Party Chat or either depending on your group type, say, whisper (if it's a friendly-targetable ability), and so on. You can also change the message that gets sent.

    Thanks!  I love the addon!

You hate Ancient Hysteria, don't you? ;-)

Created a ticket (137) on Curseforge, would be very nice if you could implement it. Thanks alot.

No, not at all - I quit playing WoW in October last year, I recently got a Scroll of Resurrection so that I could update the addon, first and foremost to actually get it properly working again, there were numerous bugs that would occur all the time or very regularly.

I will continue to work on RSA, and will release another update soon, I'll try to make sure to get Ancient Hysteria added then - my main priority, as I say, was just to get these really annoying bugs fixed first.

  • #876

Anyone noticing announcements that shouldn't be happening during the Murozond encounter, could you please post a combat log and create a ticket to go with it on RSA's Curseforge page please? This will help me to fix that bug. Cheers.

  • #874

Shouldn't be too hard - I can take a look at it.

Also, I'm not sure why still hasn't had the latest version pushed to it from Curseforge yet, but if you go to the "project site", you can download the latest version there now, which should be much more useful.

Just curious how difficult it might be to get a "Low Health" to arena party annoucement like Gladius has? Trinket Used, Drinking, n' stuff is a bit trivial but Low Health woud be nice.
