About

RSA, Raeli's Spell Announcer, by Raeli of Arathor-EU (Now Maintained by Jenneth), is an addon that aims to help players with the announcement of certain spells, as well as reminding you of important missing buffs. For example, it can detect when you cast Divine Protection, and it will send a message like so:
Divine Protection Example
As you can see, it can announce when it first is cast, and then again when it ends, not only that, but you can customise the messages that are sent.

Type /rsa in game to open in game configuration, or access it through the Blizzard Interface panel.

Spell Announcements

There is the ability to create custom message announcements, you can use certain tags to say what the target is and so on:

  • [SPELL] will be replaced with the name of the spell
  • [LINK] will be replaced by a clickable spell link of the spell cast
  • [TARGET] will be replaced with the target of the spell (only works with spells that can be put on targets other than yourself)
  • [AMOUNT] will be replaced with the amount of damage or healing done (only applicable to certain spells)
  • [MISSTYPE] will be replaced with the type of spell miss (Such as Miss, Immune, Resist again, only available to certain spells)
  • [AURA] will be replaced with the buff or debuff that is removed by dispels
  • [AURALINK] will be replaced with a clickable spell link of the buff or debuff that is removed by dispels
  • [TARCAST] will be replaced by the spell that you have just interrupted
  • [TARLINK] will be replaced by a clickable spell link of the spell that you have just interrupted

Some of these are only usable for certain spells, each spell lists what is available for you to use in game.

If you want to use a percent sign in your message you need to type it twice: %% to allow it to show, else you will receive errors.

If you leave a Start or End message empty, it will simply not announce that part. So if you only want, to say, announce when Divine Protection ends, you leave the Start message empty, and only have an End message set.

You can set where to announce spells:

  • Local - This sends messages to your own chat window, or the raid warning frame or both depending on your setting
  • Raid - Sends a message to the raid chat, if you are in a raid.
  • Party - Sends a message to the party chat, if you are in a party.
  • Smart Party - Sends a message to either instance chat, raid chat or party chat, depending on group size and location.
  • Say
  • Yell
  • Whisper - only when the target it someone else than yourself.
  • Custom Channel - You can send it to a custom channel, like, say, your healing channel. This option is now unique for each spell, so you can send different spell announcements to different places.
  • You can disable Raid/Party/Say/Custom Channel announcements while you have PvP active, if you are Ungrouped, or if you are not in an instance. Whispers and Local messages will always announce if checked.

Buff Reminder Options

You can set what spell you want to track. You can also:

  • Disable reminding while you have PvP active
  • Enable or disable reminding in your primary or secondary specs
  • Set how often you want to be reminded
  • Set where you want the announcements to be sent (local only - visible only to yourself)

I wish I could still use this addon but its causing too much lag during raids at the moment (4.3).  Is there a way to fix this addon for 4.3 so that we could stilll use it?

I'm not sure what you mean that it is causing lag. I've been using it and experience no lag at all are you testing it by itself or do you run other addons that could be causing lag issues?

  • #843

is there a way to get this to announce as a custom emote (/e) instead ?

It's sad to see that this addon is no longer being updated, I found it extremely helpful. That being said, is there another addon out there that provides similar functionality?

  • #839

I'm working on something that might be of interest to you, but my previous post either disappeared because of a glitch after editing it or was deleted without my being noticed. I'm sorry if I broke any rules by mentioning my add-on or anything--I'll just go back to work. :)

  • #841

Yeah, must have been a glitch. :)

And of course, now it looks silly because I deleted my other post, hehe.

  • #840

I've not deleted or edited any comments here, I'm actually happy someone is going to replace this addon - After I quit I simply had no way to maintain this any more realistically, so it pleases me that there will at least be some other option for people.

Pardon the plug, but I cannot keep my mouth shut anymore: I'm working on an add-on that will be able to more or less replace RSA while adding a lot of new features: Harbinger. We have been working on it for a few weeks now and basic functionality is already there, although it won't be able to replace RSA yet--we still need to implement filters and sinks for output.

The project page doesn't mention what we are working on now or what we have planned, but I'll get something up soon. In the meantime, here are a few bullet points:

    • Spells and events are at the core of Harbinger, organized in categories (classes and items, for example) and subcategories (druid, paladin, guild perks/rewards, racials, profession bonuses etc.), and with associated spell types (buffs, crowd control, heals, stuns etc.).
    • For each spell, spell type, and event, you can set defaults for the message format to use, whether the event is enabled, and later on filters and sinks--all inherited from the parent if not specified. That is, the message format for the "Aura: Applied" event (SPELL_AURA_APPLIED combat log event) can be set to something like "You gained [Blessing of Might]!", but overridden by the "Buff" spell type to say something like "Aenathel buffed you with [Blessing of Might]!", and so on for the actual spell if you're so inclined. (If it is hard to follow, trust me--it should make more sense when you see the UI and try it out.)
    • Message formats support variable and command substitution. It can be simple stuff like [s.name] for the icon and name of the source unit ([t.name] for the target unit), or a command like {t.affiliation:the party;the raid;[t.name]} to make the output depend on whether your target is in your party, your raid, or an outsider. (Current variables include icons, names, spell/item names and links, current commands are affiliation, gender, and person for proper selection of genders and pronouns.)
    • We are also about to start working on inheritable filters that will allow you to filter output based on various conditions such as your spec, instance type, PvP status, various conditions on the source and target unit of the spell including party role, main tank/assist raid flags, and more.
    • Filters will be combined with sinks to create output to the local chat log, chat channels, MSBT, etc.
    • We also want to support cascading configuration profiles, cooldown announcements (my Rebirth is ready!), configuration sharing (allowing raid leaders to push configuration to raid members, for example), and more!
    • And just in case you're worried that we might not be able to pull it off... we're both fifth-year software engineering students with 16+ years of combined software development experience across a wide variety of problem domains. We consider this a serious project, handling it (almost) as we would if we were being paid for it, releasing under the Apache Software License 2.0 and generally attempting to follow best practices and so on (this is my second to-be-published add-on, the first being a rewrite of Tome Titan for Warhammer Online, I'm Aenathel, hehe, and my associate's first to-be-published add-on), so if you're an experienced add-on developer and notice anything undesirable, do let us know!

Well, so much for bullet points... but you get the idea, I hope. I probably forgot to mention some things, but that's life. The project is currently in alpha development, so feel free to check it out, but don't expect a fully functional add-on yet. We expect to have a beta release ready sometime after Christmas, depending on how busy we'll be playing with our new toys enjoying the holidays with our families.

All right. Sorry about the wall of text--and for using your add-on page for this shameless plug, Raeli. :)

EDIT: Like I said below, this is really Taliaeron.

Bonus info: We also want to add the option to have several messages for each event with associated probabilities for, for example, role-playing purposes. On top of that, we expect the final release to support spell packs to add, edit, or even remove spells and messages. We will, of course, also do our best to support localization (using the open translation system at CurseForge), including custom commands to help with grammar if possible. (I'm from Denmark, so I speak Danish and English and a little German, but I'd be lost as far as WoW lingo goes in any other language than English. (We don't intend to make a Danish translation, although we won't stop you if you want to make a custom Danish spell pack, hehe. [Danish]: Det kunne sikkert være vældig griner!)

Try CastYeller2. I think you need to do more configuring than RSA, and spells which don't have complete events will be hard to track (For instance, Guardian of Ancient Kings - it will be hard to make an announcement for when that ends with CY2 I believe)

Okay, in that case, I don't have many suggestions, other than this - if someone can compile me a list of bugs with RSA, I will attempt to try and fix them, though there are no guarantees that I can do so since I cannot test my results.

  • #835

In the comments there it says it was abandoned in favor of RSA.  -.-

I'm guessing this addon will not be updated anymore as you are not playing? I'm just wondering if I should be searching for a replacement, there are just too many bugs now.
