About

RSA, Raeli's Spell Announcer, by Raeli of Arathor-EU (Now Maintained by Jenneth), is an addon that aims to help players with the announcement of certain spells, as well as reminding you of important missing buffs. For example, it can detect when you cast Divine Protection, and it will send a message like so:
Divine Protection Example
As you can see, it can announce when it first is cast, and then again when it ends, not only that, but you can customise the messages that are sent.

Type /rsa in game to open in game configuration, or access it through the Blizzard Interface panel.

Spell Announcements

There is the ability to create custom message announcements, you can use certain tags to say what the target is and so on:

  • [SPELL] will be replaced with the name of the spell
  • [LINK] will be replaced by a clickable spell link of the spell cast
  • [TARGET] will be replaced with the target of the spell (only works with spells that can be put on targets other than yourself)
  • [AMOUNT] will be replaced with the amount of damage or healing done (only applicable to certain spells)
  • [MISSTYPE] will be replaced with the type of spell miss (Such as Miss, Immune, Resist again, only available to certain spells)
  • [AURA] will be replaced with the buff or debuff that is removed by dispels
  • [AURALINK] will be replaced with a clickable spell link of the buff or debuff that is removed by dispels
  • [TARCAST] will be replaced by the spell that you have just interrupted
  • [TARLINK] will be replaced by a clickable spell link of the spell that you have just interrupted

Some of these are only usable for certain spells, each spell lists what is available for you to use in game.

If you want to use a percent sign in your message you need to type it twice: %% to allow it to show, else you will receive errors.

If you leave a Start or End message empty, it will simply not announce that part. So if you only want, to say, announce when Divine Protection ends, you leave the Start message empty, and only have an End message set.

You can set where to announce spells:

  • Local - This sends messages to your own chat window, or the raid warning frame or both depending on your setting
  • Raid - Sends a message to the raid chat, if you are in a raid.
  • Party - Sends a message to the party chat, if you are in a party.
  • Smart Party - Sends a message to either instance chat, raid chat or party chat, depending on group size and location.
  • Say
  • Yell
  • Whisper - only when the target it someone else than yourself.
  • Custom Channel - You can send it to a custom channel, like, say, your healing channel. This option is now unique for each spell, so you can send different spell announcements to different places.
  • You can disable Raid/Party/Say/Custom Channel announcements while you have PvP active, if you are Ungrouped, or if you are not in an instance. Whispers and Local messages will always announce if checked.

Buff Reminder Options

You can set what spell you want to track. You can also:

  • Disable reminding while you have PvP active
  • Enable or disable reminding in your primary or secondary specs
  • Set how often you want to be reminded
  • Set where you want the announcements to be sent (local only - visible only to yourself)

    Hi Raeli,

Is it possible to add shadow priests mind control to the list of announced spells?
Awesome addon btw the game really needed something along these lines, nice one :)
  • #281
Aye, I can do - at some point :P

    Raeli87

I'm making a macro to Announce my interrupts and i tought u could give me some help. What's the command to get the target spell name or the interrupted spell name?
I'm trying to make it cast the spell and then say something like: Interrupted [spellx] using [Mind Freeze].
  • #275
I have no idea how you would do that in a macro, nor if you can easily do it with a /run command that would be short enough. Though I doubt it.

The idea of RSA is to entirely replace such macros, as macros aren't generally able to do all of the things needed - if you use a macro, you'll likely spam chat, and it's not very easy to make short enough code to:

Not announce if you don't interrupt, and announce what gets interrupted when you do.

If you're worried about resource consumption of RSA, configure it, then reload your UI - the options won't load unless called, and make sure the reminders module is disabled. That is most of the CPU time gone out of the addon. Sure, the base addon used a couple of hundred kilobytes total, but it's CPU time is very low - and that's what's important.
  • #277
Yes, I was kinda thinking the same way. And the macro option was just to try saving memory. Seeing that my pc is nearly exploding in a Cata Raid.

Guess I'll give it a try on ur addon. It's an awesome that you can config wich module you want to load.

    Thanks for your support. =)

    Raeli87,

Thank you so much for RSA. My wife and I recently found one thing that would be nice to have implemented: whispers for rogue's tricks of the trade. Our guild requires rogues to whisper whoever they are targeting for tricks and thus we need to use RSA and another addon just for the whispers.

Would it be possible to implement that field? Plz? =)
  • #276
I already have a ticket open to make it on: http://wow.curseforge.com/addons/rsa/tickets/

I will get around to it, but as you can read on there, I want it to be able to announce like the Trick or Treat addon, and announce how much damage the person also gained from using it. I will do it, just not too sure when yet :)
  • #282
Got it. But.... maybe you could implement those in different steps? I mean, you already have everything you need to just whisper or announce. Right now I'm messing around with your code to try to do it myself, hehe =p

You could implement the announce and then the announcement with amount, which would help a LOT already. =)

By the way, I also tried WakeSpams with my paladin and one of the abilities it has is to count how many mobs Holy Wrath hit. Looks great in theory, kind of useless in practice, but extremely unpleasant to have 2 or 3 secs of game freeze when I popped HW. I tried to disable this and that but didn't work. RSA never gave me that problem. If you allow my 2 cents, if you plan on implementing something like that (counting things, dmg dealt and stuff) please make sure it could be turned off completely as there might be complications.

    Thanks again.

    Raeli87,

I just finished the mods for Tricks. I generated a diff file that you can find here:
    http://dl.dropbox.com/u/6781003/RSA_Rogue_Tricks.diff.txt

I hope it helps. Please let me know when you got it so I can delete it.

    Thanks! =)
  • #284
To be honest, I hadn't thought of that. I can add it as you said, no problem.

As for the other addon that causes freezes, that sounds pretty nasty. I certainly wouldn't want my addon to cause anyone's computer to freeze.
  • #285
    It would be nice, hehe.

So far, the only thing that is not working perfectly with that modification is "Local". At least on my tests.

Now, a bit of explanation on Tricks:
    - Spell ID 57934 is the buff that the rogue gains when he casts Tricks of the Trade. There is no "target" information on that event.
    - Spell ID 57933 is the buff that the rogue gains to transfer all threat and also the target. This one do provides a "target" for whispers or party with "Tricks on PlayerX".

I decided to code for 57933 so the whisper only goes when tricks actually took place. If a rogue casts it (57934) and hits nothing, then nothing happens.

I really hope this helps. My wife really needed it and since I have two computers to test and try it all over I thought you would like it. =)

Thanks again for such a GREAT addon! =D
  • #286
I added the option now to track Tricks of the Trade - and how much damage it did. If you delete [DAMAGE] from the message, it simply will not run any of the checks for getting that data. By default it will whisper when the buff is actually cast on the player (the 6sec one), and then when the buff ends, announcing how much damage was gained.
  • #287
    O.O!!!!! Awesome!!!!! =)

    Thank you! =D
  • #270
ok, I've found the conflicting addon, it's AISeller, would you be able to check it out?
Also, one thing bothers me, untill I wont type /rsa the RSA is not listed in Interface/addons panel. Is it only for me like that?
  • #271
Yeah it is like that, as the options module doesn't load until you type /rsa. I've been meaning to get around to having a bit in the options panel, and making it automatically load when you select it, but there's other more important things I want to do first :P
