About Shaman Friend

News: Druid Friend is now available!

Shaman Friend

This addon is designed specially for the Shaman class. It contains a lot of useful functions no matter which spec you are. I also have DruidFriend and PallyPowerWarn addons for those classes.

It should work with most languages, although translations depend on users providing them (see below).

Here are a few of the functions:

  • Remind/alert for Elemental Shields when fading or missing in combat (with sound support)
  • Show total Windfury damage with options to include advanced info: Crits, misses and which hand the procs come from If it procced of Stormstrike, the data from both hits are summed together and adds to the damage
  • Show a message when Lightning Overload procs, optionally together with total damage and number of crits
  • Separate frame allowing for easy Earth Shield tracking and recast
  • Show buffs removed by Purge and/or broadcast it to the chat window
  • Show spell interrupted by Wind Shear and/or broadcast it to the chat window
  • Tracks shaman CC and can alert when someone breaks it
  • Show when your Grounding Totem aborbs a spell and/or broadcast it to the chat window
  • Can print messages in MSBT, SCT, Parrot and a few other places
  • Announce to your group whenever you cast Bloodlust/Heroism, Mana Tide, or Feral Spirits
  • Uses spellID when available, this reduces the amount of localization

Of course you can choose for yourself which functions you want. It is built on Ace3 for increased efficiency and performance, with low memory footprint.

"/sf" or "/shamanfriend" to show the GUI.

As of release 3.4-r67 ShamanFriend uses libSharedMedia for Fonts and Sounds. Other addons that use libSharedMedia and add fonts and sounds will now be available in ShamanFriend. If you would like to add a bunch of new fonts, check out SharedMedia and SharedMediaAdditionalFonts. For additional sounds you can use SharedMediaAdditionalSounds.

If you make changes to the translations, please send me a message as I do not get notified when translations are changed. I do try to check the Activity Log regularly to see if someone has made any changes though.

Thanks go to Greltok for helping keep this addon up to date. Thank you to Esoyu and Sayclub for translation work. Thanks to BlueGlyph for all the work he did being the original author.

Ohh yeah, that has been om my todo list for a while, will add it to the next version :)

  • #144

Is there any way to add the enemy you purge from in the party or raid broadcast ? Think Blessing of Protection in Arena

  • #147

There are two ways to output data from this addon. One is through scrolling text and this is changed in the "Output" options, for this to work "Scroll Options" must be set to enabled.

The other way is to change the output in the "General Display" settings tab. I know, a bit weird, but it's the only way to implement SinkLib atm.

  • #148

Have you selected "Enabled" in the "Scroll Options" window?

  • #146

Still can't make it to work with other addons ... It works perfectly when set to it's own frame...
Tested with SCT, MSBT and Parrot and it works with none of them. It does not generate errors however, and does not reset the options, but when I set the output to anything else than 'None' it doesn't even work for the default frame.

  • #150

It works, but not perfect. You can select an option to try and remove the LC procs. Since both the original bolt, the LC bolt and the LO bolt looks exactly the same, it's kinda hard to tell the difference.

But most of the time it works well, as long as your are not standing in melee range, since the combatlog suffers quite a bit of lag.

  • #149

Is it just me or doesnt this work with LC? the LO procs

  • #151

Since the edit function still doesn't seem to be working on comments...

Anyone else having problems with the scrolling text? It works fine for me both with SCT and Parrot.

  • #156

    That's good to hear.

Thank you for the reply and sorry for the lengthy comments.

Must say a big thank you for creating this addon as I've found it's something I can't live without now, all your hard work is much appreciated.

  • #157

Correction: Next version will come when I get the time for a longer visit to Dr Boom for the LO thingy :)

  • #155

Was my fault. All settings read the info from the alert one regarding the "Frames" option, will be fixed in next version. Which should be in a few days.

  • #154

    My settings in 1.4 currently:

    General Display: Custom frame (ticked)

Spells: Frost Shock, Grounding Totem, Purge (ticked)
    Display - Frames (ticked)
    Scroll (unticked)

    Windfury: Crit, Enable (ticked)
    Display - Frames (unticked)
    Scroll (ticked)

    SCT/MSBT Options:
    Enable (ticked)
    Scroll text in SCT (unticked)

Basically this displays all my Windfury information in the SCT messages frame, and the Grounding/Purge/Frost Shock information in the Shaman Friend frame somewhere else.

    In 1.7:

    General Display: Custom frame (ticked)

    Output: Scrolling Combat Text (ticked)
    Scroll Area: Messages

Spells: Frost Shock, Grounding Totem, Purge (ticked)
    Display - Frames (ticked)
    Scroll (unticked)

    Windfury: Crit, Enable (ticked)
    Display - Frames (unticked)
    Scroll (ticked)

Scroll Options: Scroll output in 'Output' (ticked)

This does exactly the same as in 1.4, BUT the windfury information appears in the SCT frame AND the Shaman Friend frame, which I don't want. I only want it in the SCT frame.

I'm not sure which options or boxes I should be ticking to make this possible.

  • #153

There are basically two output channels for the addon. One is named "Frames" and the other is named "Scroll". You can change this settings independant for each type of messages.

You can change what "Frames" will mean if you go to "General Display"-settings.

For "Scroll" to work you need to enable it in "Scroll options" and then selecting an output method in the "output" section.

Will probably make it somewhat easier to next version, since it can seem a bit confusing. But this is mainly caused by SinkLib which makes it possible for it to scroll since version 1.5 or so.

Hope you understand what I mean, but what you ask for should be possible.

  • #152

I appear to be having a problem with the way the messages are output in the most recent version 1.7

In version 1.4, one which I currently still use, I am able to "split" the messages between SCT and the Shaman Friend message frame.

For example, I have my Windfury damage information pop up in the SCT frame, and the other messages such as grounding totem/purge information are displayed in the Shaman Friend frame.

In version 1.7 I seem to be unable to do this any longer, no matter what combination of settings I use. The messages will either; only show up in BOTH SCT and Shaman Friend frames (thus duplicating the information on screen), or just display in either frame without allowing me to use both frames seperately for different information without duplication.

Is there a setting I'm possibly missing, or is this an intended feature I missed in previous version notes? Any help would be appreciated.

  • #159

Yes, it needs to be localized in French. It is really easy to do.

    1. Open the Locale folder in the ShamanFriend folder.
    2. Copy the file enUS.lua and paste it as frFR.lua
    3. Open it with notepad or any other text editor. You will see lots of strings which you can then translate.

For example the first one is

    ["Options for ShamanFriend"] = true,

    Replace this with

["Options for ShamanFriend"] = "Whatever it is in French",

At the top of the file is the options. At the bottom is the data it uses to read from the game.

You don't have to translate all of it, you can just put -- in front of a line and it will use the English name instead. If you are unsure you can look at the German or Korean file.
