About SilverDragon
SilverDragon tracks rares. It'll remember where you last saw a rare mob, and will pop up a notification message when you get near one.
It comes with a list of rares. Type "/silverdragon" to bring up the options, and use the "Import Data" button to bring 'em in. (It's not installed by default, in case people would prefer to keep the suspense alive. :D )
If you import the default dataset: the very first time you come within visual range of a rare, SilverDragon will tell you. It only works the first time because it's checking the game's mob cache, and once you've seen it the game will remember. Remember, this won't happen if you don't do an import.
You can clear the mob cache by quitting WoW and deleting creaturecache.wdb from the Cache\WDB\enUS (or your actual locale) sub-directory in your WoW directory.
If you're running Windows Vista or 7, your Cache is actually NOT in the WoW install directory. Instead it will be at C:\Users\(username)\AppData\Local\VirtualStore\Program Files\World of Warcraft\Cache
If you have nameplates enabled it'll scan through them to find rares nearby. Otherwise it requires you to mouseover/target a rare, or for your party member/pets to do likewise.
When a rare appears, SilverDragon will pop up a frame that you can click on to target it.
SilverDragon can also create a macro to target any rares that are known in the current zone. It's just that good.
A LDB plugin is included to list rares in your current zone. I like ButtonBin as a viewer, but there'll be a minimap icon if you don't have any viewers installed. (You could use Broker2FuBar to put it on FuBar.)
If you have Cartographer or HandyNotes installed it will add map notes for rares, which can be shared with others.

Hi I have a strange problem with viewing rares on my map and mini map the zone that causes most problems is Uldum. When I open my map it shows no icons where rares are, but when i logged into a different toon it shows them on her map. I tried copying her profile and deleting the toons profile that have the problem also reinstalled, but It still glitches.
Having the exact same problem with just one character, just with Uldum. Maybe a problem with it being an Alpha version? I'm using v2.6.1-2-gbadea8e
Is it possible to change it's size?
This addon only reports rares now if I mouse over them, i.e. when I actually see them myself.
you might want to update this it says loque nahak is never tameable and automatically caches him when he is in fact a tameable beast. those of you looking for him might want to ditch this add on and use npcscan instead.
I'm getting rare mob popups every time I enter a zone.
The only way to import rares at the moment is to go to the addons on the character select screen and make sure 'load out of date addons' is ticked. Otherwise the Silverdragon_data WILL NOT be loaded as for some reason, it says it is out of date.
there is no Import Rares button
Did you ever get a fix on this? I am having the same issue.
Thanks
I just installed the new version and when I check my addons in wow's addon interface the silverdragon data file is showing as out of date. The main one is fine, and when i enter the data management section of the interface the clear all rares button is there but not the import rares button. Please help it appears the data file is not up to date.
heads up LibTourist-3.0 its blocking the progress on the load
need to set alpha on preferences for that lib (NOT SILVERDRAGON)
Yeah, if you're using unbundled libs then Libtourist is a minefield at the moment.
This addon is crashing the 4.3 client.
This addon crashes the 4.3 client about 25% of the load bar. It did this even when all other addos have been disabled.
It's LibTourist-3.0 crashing. You can install the latest alpha of it separately and that'll fix the issue.
