SKILL HELPER

is an add on that was developed to track skill progression. It will alert you when training is required to increase your cap so you don't waste time picking herbs or mining nodes without knowing you aren't getting skill points (among other skills as well to prevent the waste of mats). The add on has its own action buttons that relate to each skill so that you don't have to clutter your action bars or open the profession window to access these. A Mini Map Icon was implemented to perform all slash command actions, but the slash commands are still available:

Skill Helper Slash Commands type /SHelper toggle to toggle the addon hidden state type /SHelper lock to toggle locking type /SHelper reset to reset to default position type /SHelper mmtoggle to toggle the minimap button on/off type /SHelper info to view current build information

Future development for Skill Helper is still under way. Some features that are planned to be implemented include, but are not limited to:

  • Skill guides to assist in most efficient paths to leveling your trade skills
  • Skill guides to provide path maps and zone suggestions for leveling gathering skills
  • Skinning assist that will inform you if something can be skinned before you kill and loot it
  • Code optimization
  • Quick link button that will allow you to link the skill without having to open the profession window
  • Improvements on the action buttons and how they work (including fixing the "Interface action has Failed" error they throw)

I only ask you to be patient as I have a wife, kids, full-time job, college, and 10 85's in my raiding guild. Skill Helper is being worked on actively, but nothing is completed to a point of satisfaction to pass through my own standards.

:O He's working on this thing again too!

I'm gonna work on an update to try to resolve the little "Interface Action Failed due to Addon" error!

I know what is causing it and think I found how to fix it!

There are also several buttons that simply aren't working such as prospecting and what not!  I'll try to fix them also.

it would appear that the issue is that I have not done localization Frown

The problem is that it is comparing Encantamiento to what I am guessing should be Enchanting.  As a quick fix you could go into the SkillHelper images folder and rename all the images from their English names to the Spanish equivalents.  I will put on my list to eliminate the hard storage of these images and make it so I pull them automatically from the "spells".  If I do this then it should eliminate the needs and not require localization for non-English clients.

Thanks for sharing this and please let me know if you need any more help.

I would change it to rankModifier+rank/ max. rank, for a slightly better overview

  • #94

Thanks for the suggestion.  I will take it into account and decide if I would like to implement.  I understand what you mean and I have even considered simply providing the total (precalculated) skill value for readability and simplicity.

    Something like a rankTotal = rankModifier+Rank

    and then display as rankTotal/rankMax.

This was something I tossed around for a while at the early development stages, but never returned to.

    Questions about Skill Helper

    Great AddOn.

I have a couple of questions.

Is there any documentation on the slash commands you mention in the description?

What do the number next to each skill mean?  e.g., What does Fishing 4+25/75 mean?

    Thanks,

    Rob

    @rwojcik49

Thanks for pointing out the lack of documentation.  It appears that the slash command documentation that was in the changelog is no longer there.  Probably due to my change from direct upload to SVN repository.  I also noticed that my description tells people the wrong slash command for Skill Helper as well.

The correct slash command is /SHelper

Typing just this command prints in the chatbox all parameters that it can take:

    Skill Helper Slash Commands
type /SHelper toggle to toggle the addon hidden state
type /SHelper lock to toggle locking
type /SHelper reset to reset to default position
type /SHelper mmtoggle to toggle the minimap button on/off
type /SHelper info to view current build information

Skill Helpers Minimap Icon also performs all of these functions.  The info parameter shows in the mouseover tooltip of the mini map icon.

The numbers next to each skill are:

    rank + rankModifier / maxRank

To break this down rank is your current rank in the skill, rankModifier is a modification like a bauble, and maxRank is your current maxRank for your training.  If the bar turns red then you need to go and train to increase your maxRank.  This alert occurs within the 25 point threshhold from hitting your current cap since you must be in this range to train further.

I'm happy to hear that you are enjoying the add on and I hope you stay with me for a while.  Development has stalled a bit with both of my add ons due to real life being a bit hectic right now, but they are still being developed further.  Please check out my other add on iLvLr here on Curse.

iLvLr is my newest add on with a long term development plan.

    http://www.curse.com/addons/wow/ilvlr

This addon will be absorbing Durability Helper (which will then become inactive) eventually in a future release.

Thanks for reply just to inform, just appear one greentab and the name and skills not showing at all

What you are describing would indicate that you have no skills detected.  If you could provide a screen shot of your professions window and skillhelper (side by side if possible) it may help.  Also enable the Lua error reporting to see if Skill Helper is generating any errors.

Skill Helper is mostly unique code so it should generate errors that directly associate to skill helper itself.

If I can find the time I will perhaps create a character on the PTR and try logging into it myself.  I do want to remind you again though that I don't support Skill Helper (or any other addons I've created) on the PTR.  I can not make any promises that I will find the time to create a PTR version of my addon.

One of my testers plays on the PTR as well so I may be able to work with them to attempt a PTR version for you.

Thanks for using my add on and the support!

I, unfortunately, do not develop on the PTR.  It won't load as an out of date addon at all?  If not that would indicate that the PTR has a major update to skill code which hasn't been released.

If it can load as an out of date addon then the TOC needs to be updated to reflect the Interface Version on the PTR.

I only have time to develop for the stable code released on the Live servers.

If it doesn't work as an out of date addon I could perhaps help you with determining why if you could provide a ticket on curse forge with any Lua errors that may occur relevant to Skill Helper.

There will be another patch shortly... The mining changes has broken the addon for higher level miners

  • #84

I just uploaded 2.2.217 that fixed a logical error that was found in the new code for the mining action buttong for smelting.

  • #80

It was brought to my attention that the cooking fire button wasn't working.  As of 2.2.215 the icon attempted to cast the old spell "Basic Campfire".  I will be releasing an update with a fix changing that spell name to the appropriate "Cooking Fire".

I am working on creating a /shelper mmtoggle command for toggling the mmbutton on and off.  I'm having some difficulty with it at the moment, but I will post the update as soon as possible.
