About SkillScore

SkillScore

It's What you Need to Succeed!

Ahhh! It rates my Skill?!? Yes. It does just that. SkillScore is also a raid utility! Read for more info.

SkillScore is an Addon for World of Warcraft (4.0.1), and that equally rates a player's individual skill. Gear is sometimes a luck roll, and sometimes you don't always have the best luck. So what's better than being able to compare your Skill to other players. SkillScore does not only benefit curious players, but also has raid utilities. SkillScore is said to be a "Must Have", as said by some testers, and is the "new number", it's as easy as:

1. Point 2. Click 3. Know (Your Skill!)

Skill - "The ability, coming from one's knowledge, practice, aptitude, etc., to do something well." (http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/skill)

What EXACTLY is SkillScore you might ask?

SkillScore is an addon that provides the user with knowledge of a player's Skill, or your own. Instead of asking for "Your Best Achievement" you might want to consider asking people to LINK their SkillScore. Link, you ask? Linking a SkillScore is as easy as typing:

/ss send "PlayerName"

If the player you Link your SkillScore to has SkillScore and Receiving Enabled, then they will receive a notification in their chat box that informs them of your SkillScore! The best part is that it works NO MATTER WHERE YOU ARE! It looks like this:

"YourName"s SkillScore: [YourSkillScore]

SkillScore can also RETREIVE other people's SkillScore through:

/ss "PlayerName"

If the specified player has SkillScore then you will receive a chat box notification with their SkillScore, it looks like this:

"PlayerName"'s SkillScore: [Player'sSkillScore]

SkillScore provides different Scores for different raids, for example, if you click on someone it will provide you with their Skill in both ICC10 and ICC25. Each number is unique to their Skill for that raid. These numbers are displayed under their name in the ToolTip box for characters for easy access!

Why Two Numbers? Two is better than one.

Because if you are a 25 Man raider in a dedicated Guild, then their SkillScore in 25 Man would be much higher than your 10 Man SkillScore. The same is true Visa-Versa. Maybe you are a casual raider and you only like to do 10 Mans, no problem, your 10 Man SkillScore will defiantly reflect your Skill!

Well, how does it all work??

• SkillScore works by looking at the targeted player's Achievements (Next Update will include Statistics) for certain fights. These Achievements and Statistics are each given a numerical value and are put into a equation that pops out a number that approximates your Skill!!! So, SkillScore helps me how?

• The moment you target someone, request a SkillScore, or Link your SkillScore, the calculation is performed on the spot and is not out of date and incorrect. You can always count on SkillScore to give an accurate representation of your overall Skill. SkillScore Provides YOU, Your GUILD, Your RAID, and EVERYONE else with what you need to succeed!

• If your a diligent pug leader, and like to have people who not only can perform well, but can do the right thing (like knowing a fight, and doing it right not just mindlessly DPSing the boss, "Oh, didn't know I was supposed to move, soz." Sometimes, gear doesn't tell the whole story, and SkillScore will tell you what else you need to know.

Why wouldn't I just ask for their best Achievement or Armory them?

• Well, simply put, it just takes too long, when you're putting together an Elite Pug group, you need to be able to filter who's good and bad with one glance of the eye, making choppy decisions can lead to Wipes and other Fatal Raid mistakes. Know who you're dealing with to make the best out of raiding, don't be a victim use your tools at hand to make the right decision!

SkillScore is is entering the Beta stage.

Added DataBase functions.

Mouseover strictly uses entries from the database.

To obtain a SkillScore you need to target a player.

Mouseover is now, by default, enabled. That is, until you toggle it off.

When you /ss a player, it will not only request their SkillScore, but it will look if you have it in your Database.

Love this addon... but since installing the version for the new 4.0 patch, it's very rarely showing the skillscore on my tooltip. What gives? :(
  • #20
That's strange, I haven't had that problem. Is there anything special that you do to get it to show the person's SkillScore? Or is it just in general? I'll look into it.
    Thanks,

    Hi again :)

Could you please explain (but the best would be to include it in the tooltip) what means a certain value of score 2430 for instance ? or at least the boss killed and y/n in front of and hm or not ?

By the way ; a small typo : it writes : Drakdoc set you their skillscore. Shouldn't it be something like Drakdoc sent you his skillscore (perhaps sent to).

Thanks again for your work :).

    Drak

PS : possible to add the fact that the info is shown only if I press a key ?

Looking forwards to trying this one out. Even just the thought of an addon like this (which has been on my mind since Gearscore showed up) is great. I haven't gotten a chance to play with it, but reading the comments I'll keep an eye out for bugs and post any errors I have with it. I'll be running it alongside GearscoreLite because the regular GS has a bunch of stuff I don't need (or want).

Thanks - Looking forward to some new thoughts on the addon.

This addon makes my rogue's sap macro which contains /cleartarget /target enemyplayer to reduce my frame rate to 1fps when spammed.

It might be trying to update the skillscore when targeting players...

    Uninstalled it. Horrible.
  • #15
If you typed /ss Beta, you would be able to understand why this is happening. This is a beta version for a reason. This is happening because you are running GearScore side-by-side with this Addon, I'm working to get this fixed soon, but it's not an easy fix. Since both addons queue for the SetComparisonUnit, it retrieves two sets of information on the targeted character; thus, producing a lag effect, although it is not really lag, you can call it whatever you'd like to. Try running just SkillScore and see if it happens then. I'll let you know when this is fixed so you can happily reinstall it.

    Hi,

Regarding "mouseover", I just read :

    *************************************************

Open up the Spell Bindings Menu for whichever mouse button you want to cast Growl with. You should see a text box with the spell name, and then to the right should be some text that either says "Click to Select", "@mouseover", or "@mouseovertarget" - make sure it says "@mouseovertarget". If it doesn't, click the text and select "Enemy".
    *************************************************

And one other point (bug probably), sometimes, when I click on someone's toon, it generates a bug :

Yeah, it's saying Blizzard's Standard UI for achievements is having problems. I don't know how SkillScore could cause this, but it might. If anything it's probably a problem when you switch from one target to another, and I'm guessing it's the way SkillScore clears the ComparisonUnit. But that's just a guess. I'll look into it. It doesn't occur very often does it?
  • #13
I think you're right. I do remember that it occured when I switche from one target to another. But it doesn't happen every times so I wasn't sure.

    Hi,

I think you've reached a stable version. Sometimes, it doesn't want to show the information but it works very very often. One small detail: to see my score, I use /ss send "myself". Is there another way ?

For the achievement, isn't there a way to check them the same way we can loot at someelse's achievements ? Have you looked at "http://wow.curse.com/downloads/wow-addons/details/overachiever.aspx" to see how they handle the control of our own achievement ?

    That's good to know. :)

For checking your own SkillScore you should only have to mouse over your Frame, or click on your Frame. (Player Frame)

To retrieve your SkillScore without hovering over your Player Frame you can do it these other ways:

/ss "yourname" - This now also checks your database.
    /ss send "yourname"

There is only one way to check achievements, the way OverAchiever does it is the same a my way. There are actually two, but the other way only applies to check your achievements. Which I have implemented that when checking your own SkillScore.

Thanks for the help debugging all the problems. The version I'm working on right now is even better at showing people's SkillScore on mouseover and such. (It works 99% of the time)

You can count on it being released very soon.

    Thanks again,
    Promedeus

    Hi :),

I still face some problem to see the scores. Sometimes I need to mouse over someone several time before the tooltip gets filled. Isn't there an event "on click" combined with your target being a playing toon that you can intercept ?

    PS:if I can help, ...
  • #8
Thank you for the feedback by the way, I love it. :)

I don't mean the sound sassy or anything I just wanted to explain what I'm trying to do to fix it (as opposed to leaving you with no new info).
  • #7
No. This is not where the problem is. I am well aware of the problem and stopping each part of it as I can.

If you have the newest version you must have targeted them (the person targeted) before (this will store there SkillScore in your database). There is no On_Click event you can capture, but you can capture the PLAYER_CHANGED_TARGET. This is where the SkillScore is calculated, added to the database, and displayed on the tooltip. But this is only part of the problem. It all comes together to make a mess.

To check achievements I must SetAchievementComparisonUnit(). But that doesn't get their achievement info. I have to wait for an Event that says that the achievements are ready to be looked at. Here is where the main problem is (being the biggest contributing factor), when you click on a player, then mouse off and then back over, or any other combination of waving your mouse all over the screen it sets the comparison unit that many times. Each time this is set, there will be an event called if the target is valid. So if you spam across the screen, the event will be called for every player you moused over. For each event the SkillScore will be added to the tooltip. (If you mouseover 10 people it should accumulate 3 or 4 SkillScores on the current tooltip; thus, them being added to the tooltip). But to stop this I implemented a system which checks the last target to not only check if the player is the same person (Double SkillScores being shown), but to check that the SkillScore obtained belongs to the current mouseover or targeted member. This can also cause problems which may make SkillScore not appear on a person.

For mouseover there is no event at all. Although, we can use a hook to mimic an event.

If you want to help please take a look at the Lua code to get an understand of how it works. It's not a simple fix; although, it is doable.
