About TankMastery

TankMastery is a helper add-on for tanks. When used, it can:

  • watch your target, and produce a self/raid/party/channel message if it gets taunted/knocked-back/mocked
  • show you an icon about the targeting review of the moment (if it is targeting a tank, if that tank is targeting it back etc) [v0.70+]
  • can warn you if your taunt failed [v0.90+]

It is mainly created to encourage synergy between the tanks, improve the raid quality, see who is being a "bad boy" and if possible, minimize such encounters. : )

  • Taunt System at the very moment supports single target taunts, AOE taunts, mocks, pet threat spells and knock-backs. You can use it to pinpoint which dps is knocking back the mobs making it harder to tank/build aggro (Thunderstorm, Typhoon).
  • TankWatch-Icon feature helps you to quickly pinpoint which mob is going out of control or which one can be taunted to take the load of other tanks easily/safely (with their current targets in mind).
  • TankMastery HyperSense (TM-HS) is a new experimental feature to provide you more taunt/pull information. Will probably add more features to it in the future.

Sample output:

  • XXX taunted YYY using ZZZZ.
  • XXX mocked YYY using ZZZ.
  • XXX knocked-away YYY using ZZZ.

Few Important Reminders:

  • "Tank X taunted a mob off me and addon didnt track it!"... Please note that by design, addon *only* tracks taunts on your target (any type), NOT other adds on you. We dont wanna be spammy, yet we want to be effective. In future versions I might add setting to enable that as well; let me know if you really need it.
  • "Tank Watch icon is sometimes a little slow to update!"... Do note that addon entirely depends on client reporting changes and new targets; so any lag in connection, or any lag in wow client notifying us will delay the icon as well. TankMastery (as of 0.85) *only checks your and your target's target changes; the effect on performance is expected to be *very negligible.
  • "TM-HS is sometimes/always wrong!"... HyperSense feature is very experimental and hence the results can be sometimes not accurate. We have limited window to WoW's real events and such guesses can be surely prone to errors. Got suggestions for it? Let me know. Hate it? Go to options and turn it off.

(Recent) New Features:

  • Automatically enables/disables based on class/stance.
  • Basic configuration screen (able to choose where to report)
  • [v0.70+] Target review icon
  • [v0.80+] Player/Self failed taunts (resists/immune) are watched as well now.
  • [v0.88+] HyperSense

Future to-do list:

  • Thinking if we should check for failed taunts of other tanks on our targets...
  • different output channels for different tracked events?
  • maybe checking for taunts on other tanks' mobs?
  • improved configuration screen (what to print out, who to check etc)
  • ... even more, who knows. Addon name is very general, why not make use of it :)

Feel free to post your constructive comments/suggestions; and spread around the word. Thanks.

I'm guessing you have no plans to update your add-on for 5.x?  I'm really missing TM-HS working : (

  • #48

Hi, I am indeed hoping to update it; I just was too busy with work etc playing catchup. Updates will be probably shortly after the MOP release.

  • #46
I like the concept of it, but in 4.2 i'm getting errors from time to time, and not really sure if i'm using the taunting function correctly, but clicking names does not seem to utilize my taunt correctly if at all
  • #45
I hope that this add-on gets updated, it has really helped me in the past...

    "Automatically enables/disables based on class/stance."

Is there a way to have it always enabled. Because as a healer I want to know when tanks taunt so I can switch heals to new target. As of right now I can never get it to announce. Thanks.

Just got this error when logging in:

    Interface\AddOns\TankMastery\TankMastery.lua:330: Usage: GameTooltip:SetOwner(frame)
    Count: 5

    Call Stack:
    [C]: ?
    [C]: in function `SetOwner'
    Interface\AddOns\TankMastery\TankMastery.lua:330: in function

    v0.93 finally fixes that problem.

Reliant Tanking Monitor shows debuffs on up to two other tanks and yourself. This is GREAT for tracking debuff stacks on tanks. Is there anything such as a stack tracker being planned for TankMastery (ReliantTM is sooooo out of date).
  • #41
ok. TankMastery v0.92 should be the first release that is compatible with WoW 4.0. Now time to read the bugs and comments...
  • #39
Is there a foreseeable date to a release that this will be updated to work with 4.0.1? .. as of now its not working and I really love this addon.

  • #38
hey. i will be checking if everything is alright/working-as-expected with v4. Expect an update (to mod and TOC) very soon...

For tanks wishing for multi-targeted threat displays. I suggest getting Tidyplates also available on curse. It will show a numerical threat meter not just a bar for all tanked mobs. It also allows for a tank to see at a glance what mob is being attacked with what spells etc etc. For single targeted displays use Omen. So there are better alternatives to this addon. given that is now almost a year out of date.

The code for detecting knockbacks appears to check for the shaman glyph negates the knockback effect, but it seems like the corresponding check for the druid glyph may have been overlooked. While not exactly a show-stopper bug, it has forced me to disable the addon's public feedback any time I have a druid in my party, raid or battlegroup - apparently our lovable boomkins get quite cranky when the game repeatedly accuses them of being a noob when they do in fact have the glyph to prevent just that =D

With this option it makes for only single targeting displays. Tanks benefit from multi-targeted displays. So not showing the status of all mobs around you. Honestly just makes this a pointless add-on to have. No offense. In this capacity for single targeted displays Omen would just work here. With multi-targeted displays this add-on would have better viability.

i agree on this one its no meaning to have it on only the one im targeting considering that that target probobly allready is attacking me due to threat.
would love if you could do this one but to all mobs in line of sight
