About targetAssist

targetAssist

Anyone else miss MainAssist? targetAssist is my attempt to recreate the basic functionality of that wonderful addon.

targetAssist provides unit frames that track tanks and main assists in your party or raid, along with their current targets. You can position the frames by dragging the header bar. Targeting buttons can be arranged above or below the header (see the Appearance section of the configuration options):

targetAssist window

Right click on the header bar to bring up a context menu that will allow you to select the tracked party/raid members and configure the addon:

Left click on party/raid members or their targets to target those units. Right clicking on the party/raid member buttons brings up a menu that allows you to change the order in which they appear:

Right click on a party/raid member target to change the raid icon on that unit:

The interface options panel allows you to customize the visual appearance and behavior of the addon:

In addition to setting up the addon to automatically track tanks and main assists set through the default UI, you can also broadcast your current settings to other members of your party/raid who are running the addon:

    Hi everyone,

First off thanks for your patience and continued interest in the using the mod.  It's true I'm no longer actively playing, but will keep an eye out here (although, clearly should do so more frequently!).

Mad props to pesibeth for catching the broken API calls.  I've pulled your "patch", updated the TOC and committed a new release (1.4.4).  Please let me know if you run into any more trouble!

Pepsibeth u made 1 WOW nerd very happy :+>> Hats off to you

Pepsibeth thanks a lot for the help, high five's coming your way!!!  Laughing

Thanks Pepsibeth worked real good!!... although I have found you can do almost the same thing with Shadowed Unit Frames (SUF) and Clique installed since SUF lets you see party targets also... it's harder to setup but more flexible in the long run.

Thank you for coming up with a work around. This is one of my favorite addons

I haven't had a chance to test this out completely, but I was able to log into the game with no errors and my targetassist bar is back on my screen - if someone else wants to test it out, I won't have a chance to for a few days still, post if it's fully functional - if not, I can go back and see what else I can find for changes.

Don't have the game running during this.

Go into your targetassist folder, found here in Windows 7 Pro: C:\Program Files (x86)\World of Warcraft\Interface\AddOns\targetAssist - it might be a good idea to make a backup copy of the entire targetAssist folder and put it somewhere else so that you can always go back to before the following changes.

Right click on core.lua and choose Edit.  A notepad window should open up.

In the Menu bar, left click on Edit, then choose Find... A search window should pop up.

In the search bar, type GetNumPartyMembers then click Find Next.  It should highlight that exact text in the file.  Now replace that GetNumPartyMembers with GetNumGroupMembers then click Find Next again.  Do the same thing with replacing the two phrases.  Continue with Find Next and replacing until there is no more results when you click Find Next.

Close the search window and scroll the file all the way back to the top.

Go back to the Menu Bar, Edit, Find... and this time in the search window, type in GetNumRaidMembers and do the exact same thing that you did before, replacing all GetNumRaidMembers in the file with GetNumGroupMembers

Once you've gone through and changed all those, in the Menu Bar, go to File, and Save.  Exit the file and load wow, go to the AddOns button on the character select screen to make sure targetAssist is loaded - it will still say Out of Date, then load a character and see how it goes.

Hopefully my explanations were accurate enough, let me know how it goes - like I said, my targetassist bar is back, and no errors, but I won't have a chance to actually check it out in a group or raid for several days - so if you do, let me know how it went.

I wonder if Sonora is even still playing WOW? Late last year he posted a comment (see below) suggesting he had moved on from WOW. Seriously hope that if he doesn't upgrade this add-on someone else will take it over the task. I have become so depended on it I feel like a klutz without it :)

This really is one of the best addons especially for my hunter misdirects. I agree with the others in begging you to update it.

"Please, Please, Please, Sonora!  Make this add-on available for the new MoP expansion.  This is such an awesome addition!  I don't know what I'd do without it!  Makes it very difficult to run a dungeon without it!  Keep up the good work!  One of the very few add-ons I'd actually consider donating to."  Cool

I have to agree with the above post by Lynn32555, this addon is something that I cannot live without. There is nothing anywhere that comes close to it. Pretty please with sugar and sprinkles on top, if there is anyway you can get this 5.0 ready, we all would be very, very grateful. LaughingLaughing
