About Track-o-Matique

Track-o-Matique is considered obsolete due to the removal of the Improved Tracking talent in 4.0.1.

Thank you for your patronage.

Track-o-Matique

Automatic tracking of the current target's creature type. For the discerning PvE hunter.

First and foremost targeted at the talent Improved Tracking, but it seems like it may be useful even outside of that.

Regarding the 3.0.8 Imp. Tracking mechanics change

As you all know, Improved Tracking got completely changed with 3.0.8, largely obsoleting the then-current version of Track-o-Matique. It doesn't completely remove the usefulness of this add-on however, so version 2.7 introduces the concept of "lazy tracking". With lazy tracking on, it will only update tracking types if you're tracking something that wouldn't grant the Improved Tracking bonus. This leads to less time spent swapping tracking types, and more time pew-pewing :)

Usage

Track-o-Matique can be used in one of two modes - automatic or manual. When in automatic mode, it will notice whenever you change your target and update your tracking to that creature type, if possible and necessary (depending on whether "lazy tracking" is enabled). It automatically ignores targets that are dead or otherwise not attackable. If you're busy (e.g. casting Steady Shot or channeling Volley) when you swap targets, Track-o-Matique will queue up the tracking change and switch as soon as you stop casting - this way it is guaranteed that you'll get the most out of your Improved Tracking talent.

If you prefer to not trust an add-on in fully automatic mode, you can use the manual mode and just add /tom to your attack macro(s) to ensure whatever you're attacking is tracked.

Configuration

Track-o-Matique sports flexible configuration for when to enable automatic tracking:

  • Only while in Party/Raid
  • Only while spec'd for Improved Tracking
  • Only while in Combat Some of these are also available as keybinds for quick-toggling.

Additionally, you also have the option of restoring your previous tracking type when leaving combat. This is quite handy to switch back to tracking of resource nodes (mines, flowers, etc) whenever you're not in combat.

If you PvP, you might want to consider using the "Ignore Druids" option, which will stop you from changing tracking every time a targeted druid shape-shifts.

All configuration is done via the regular Interface options screen (Escape -> Interface -> AddOns -> Track-o-Matique). You can also use /track-o-matique to jump straight to the config screen.

Localization

The later versions of Track-o-Matique support localization, and work with the following clients:

  • US English
  • German
  • French (configuration screen not yet localized)
  • Russian (may not be 100% localized)
  • Spanish (configuration screen not yet localized)
  • Chinese

* Stopped unnecessary tracking update when leaving combat.
Now only re-tracks if there's a need for switching tracking back.

I have a hunter and I like because it helps me have only one or two things tracked at once, so I can mine.
  • #183
Is this add on still viable for 4.0.+ patches?
  • #184
No. 4.0.1 removed the Improved Tracking talent altogether and made it possible to track multiple things at once. This made this addon completely obsolete (which it does say in the first line of the description ;-)).
  • #182
Is it possible to make the restore to previous tracking work while out of combat also?I want to use the non combat tracking(by just targeting the mob) and restore the tracking when i am not targeting anything/targeting non attackable mob/creature type not benefiting the talent.

Thanks for being here for us, still missing the mod in 4.0.1. :-/ Freaking blizz hehe. Stay safe mate.
  • #180
hello a idee please implant one main track (aka herbs) that works out of dungeons.
often is that change the track at raids multible.
  • #175
Whould be great if u can build in an "fallback"-track, sometimes it doesn't reset back to (in my case Find Herbs).
I now this can make problems if I wanna track something other but I always miss to reactivate Find Herbs and this is rly ... (maybe fallback with a x-Minute delay?)
  • #176
Wait, what? Are you saying you're still having problems with it not properly restoring the correct tracking option? That was meant to be fixed in version 3.4.6! I know for a fact that I fixed _a_ such issue.

If you are running 3.4.6 and are having it fail to restore tracking, please confirm, and if you can at all work out how to reproduce it it will help me immensely in fixing it.

    Thanks!

Sorry was in vacation, I made now a clean-update (delete old settings and installed the addon new). Looks like I have still that problem. But it don't apears every fight. I will look how to reproduce it.
    Btw love that Addon :)
Maybe it's a issue with german client?
  • #179
It is highly unlikely to be related to which locale/country you're in - the internal bits use spell IDs and textures for finding the tracking types, not the country specific names.

I've yet to come across the issue you describe, so please let me know if you find a way to reproduce it!

This add-on stopped working for me yeasterday. It doesn't change tracking to what ever i'm attacking anymore - though i haven't changed a single thing in the settings.
  • #174
Nvm i made it work now - though i had to uncheck "Lazy tracking" before it worked.
  • #177
For the record, this is probably because in 3.0.8 Imp. Tracking was changed so that if anything that you can track is tracked, all those things get the bonus (for example, if you're killing Dragonkin with "Track Humanoids" on, you still get the Imp. Tracking bonus). Not a count against the Addon, just explaining for fellow readers.

"Restore Tracking" has stopped working for me in the last week or so. It changes to tracking a mob type when I enter combat, but doesn't return to tracking minerals when I exit combat.
  • #172
Hmm, I haven't noticed, but I'm so used to it "just working" I don't look at the tracking much these days. I'll see if I can reproduce it this week.
