About Translator

Translator is a tool made for entertainment purposes to allow players to communicate while obscuring their messages from the public and as a bonus will translate through same-faction languages if the speaker is also using this add-on, even if the recipients do not "know" the used language.

Please note this translator is NOT meant to be a cross-faction communication tool, and will not translate between the Alliance and Horde sides by default; even if this may be technically possible with a modification to the translator lexicon.

Example usage:

  1. Player A selects his current language used to be Darnassian.
  2. Player A types "/trans hey, can you read this"
  3. Player B has this translator add-on installed and sees the message "hey, can you see this", even though he cannot speak Darnassian.
  4. All other players without this translator see gibberish, even if they can speak Darnassian.

Updated TOC. Otherwise has worked fine since initial release.

is this addon ligit and legal to the game?

  • #6

As far as I know, it is legal.

If it were modified a certain way, perhaps not - but as-is, yes.

Is there an addon that can translate from DK to English without receiver has something installed?

  • #4

Not to my knowledge. If it were possible, both parties would probably need an addon installed.

Will this translate other languages spoken by NPCs? There are plenty of NPCs that seem to speak Dwarven.

No, this add-on only works with others that also have it. Keep in mind that it is primarily used "just for fun" to allow messages to be understood through language-obfuscation, and to weakly "encrypt" messages between those that have the add-on and those that do not. I will try to clarify this in the description.
