About Trashcan
Trashcan keeps space free in your inventory by selling low value gray items or destroying them if you do not visit a vendor and are running out of space.
(Note: when first installed, Trashcan is disabled. Go to Options->Interface->AddOns to enable it.)
Features:
- GUI configuration (can be opened through the Bliz Options/Interface/Addons, or by typing /tc config)
- Maintains a Trashlist to which you can add non-gray items that will automatically be sold (or destroyed, depending on settings)
- Any time you manually destroy an item, you will see a third button in the confirmation dialog allowing you to add the item to your Trashlist.
- If selling is enabled, sells all grays and all items in your Tashlist whenever you visit a vendor.
- If destroying is enabled, you can set a minimum number of free bag slots and a maximum item value to destroy. Whenever you have less than that number of free bag slots, Trashcan will destroy the least valuable gray or Trashlist item in your inventory to reach the set number of free slots.
- GUI includes a page for managing your Trashlist where you can drag to add items or click to remove items. You can also add items to the Trashlist manually by name using the command line.
- GUI shows the total vendor value of all items ever sold and of all items deleted by Trashcan.
- Note that when calculating the vendor value of items to destroy, Trascan uses the value of a full stack of any stackable items, so that in the long run you will destroy less value if you repeatedly fill your inventory.

This addon is made of pure win and bacon. Lots of bacon.
It will not destroy - "Inert Elemental Shard" ID=55984. If I try to add it to the trash list, i get a message saying that it would be deleted anyway but it never deletes them. Other grey items also don't get deleted automatically even though I have set the value to 1g and the items are worth far less than that.
How can this be fixed?
Inert Elemental Shard are worth 30 silver each and stack to 20. Trashcan takes into account how many each item would stack to, since looting more of them will fill further slots only when a stack has been reached. So keeping on looting this item will eventually result in each slot full of them being worth six gold, not a good candidate for deletion. If you were to set the threshold to more than six gold, this item would be deleted, but only after less valuable items have been deleted.
Grays that are not deleted ARE automatically sold (if that functionality is on), which is generally what you want with the more valuable gray items.
I could, I suppose, in a future update, add a popup warning saying that "This item is worth x per stack, are you sure you want to add it to your trash list." and then allowing it to be added.
Ahh ok .. i understand now. I did not realize that it bases its calculations on stack sizes for an item. I did manage to bypass this behaviour by forcibly adding the item to the trashlist data file - but after reading your reply I think I'll take it out again - seems it's smarter than I am.
Thanks for the prompt reply.
Umm .. how do i drag something from my bags into the UI window - I'm unable to open my bags when the UI config window is open. (This is the same for all addons - bag opening is not possible)
OK - nvm - I have to use the slash command.
First off, I never made, or think I could make an addon like this. One thing that to me would be a nice feature, would have a value limit to delete. With Cata I've had quite a few grey's drop that were around 3 to 5 gold. If the was a way to be able to set up someting along that line I'd be happy. I'm just not sure what kind of coding you'd have to do for that. If you can't do it, no biggie, it's still a time saving addon. Thanks.
This functionality is in the addon. Just open the configuration UI (type "/tc config"), and you will see all of the options that are available.
A Whitelist would be GREAT. But if you could add the item by manually typing OR linking it into the whitelist that would be good too. For example, I use this addon when I'm farming for a rare pet or something. And occasionally there is some sort of rare drop item that is a grey but I still want it(transmog's mainly). So, being unable to link an item without already having it... you get what I'm saying xD
Also, maybe some sort of refined enable/disable feature within the gui. Mine would not work save my life for whatever reason, then I typed /tc to see what I could do and from there /tc destroy on which enabled it. Later I tried /tc destroy off and that didn't work, however unchecking "Destroy Junk" disabled it.
Also, as somebody mentioned before with a fully manual trash list, that would be great imo. I think it would give a lot more people a better feel of control. Maybe an option of "Only delete the things on the trash list" and then give the ability of adding greys to the trash list.
NOTE FOR SOME OF THE ISSUES YOU PEOPLE ARE HAVING:
- /tc destroy on (to enable)
- Uncheck 'Destroy Junk' in the gui (to disable)
- READ THE CHATLOG! If you cannot add an item via the gui, my guess is in your chatlog it gave you a message stating "This item would have been deleted anyway". AKA: Useless to add because it's already a grey below your specified worth value.
- The Trash List is for adding NON-GREY items. Not already grey items! Derp :P (or grey items worth more than 2g or whatever you set that to)
I'm thinking of expanding the functionality of this addon to make it a general item and inventory management addon. If I do that, I will most likely clone this project and rename (assuming sparcheta is ok with that).
In the shorter term, I may add a couple of small features to this addon, but I would like user feedback.
There is a ticket asking for global configuration. I would add this as the default along with a check box to use per character configuration.
I also wonder if a whitlist would be useful. That would be a list similar to the trash list, but of items that would NOT be destroyed. I personally do not need this, but I have had a comment from someone that did.
Are either of these enhancements things that people would generally use?
OKAYYYYY.
I see what happened here. Because beta versions also syndicate, I never tagged the beta from last March as a release version. But Curse has you download the ooooolllllddd release by default. So ALL of you are probably using a version from nearly a year ago that indeed does not work correctly with the current game version. You all are downloading 1.4r by default. Doh. If you look above at the "Other Downloads" tab, you will see that I made major changes and additions in version 2.0, and that the current beta version since March has been 2.1.
Sigh. How depressing is my fail for not realizing what what was happening? Extremely.
I will flag a release version by the end of the day so that this doesn't happen to anyone else, and so that Curse Client will fix it for those who still have this addon on their computer.
Very sorry to all of you.
Hi folks. Sorry I haven't checked here in a while.
I'm not getting any of the symptoms you all describe, which is dismaying, insofar as it makes it impossible to find the problem. So, from what I read here, the configuration isn't loading, so you all have no way to control the addon. Presumably /tc off not working is fundamentally the same problem.
Could anyone seeing this problem please make sure lua errors are on and send me any errors they are seeing? Try typing /tc config with errors turned on.
I have a bit of time in the near future, and I'd like to both fix it and update it for 4.3., and in fact was hoping to add some functionality that I think would increase its usefullness. But if its seriously broken in ways that I am not seeing, I'll need help from those that are seeing the errors.
The add-on does work, however there is no configuration menu, either from /tc config, or from the add-ons menu. However, you can still drag and delete things from your bags and add it to the Trashcan list, and it'll work perfectly fine. Be wary, however, that once turning TC on, it will delete all grey items, regardless of value. If you're farming an instance for greys, which I sometimes do, remember to turn TC off. Otherwise, this is great for when you're fishing and trying to get one specific item for an achievement, and you can leave auto-loot on for as long as you like, and TC will automatically delete the crap you don't want from your bags so you don't waste time. I reccomend this to achievement farmers everywhere, especially those going for the Salty title.
EDIT: Using /tc off doesn't seem to disable the add-on at all. I'll type it several times and it still deletes my stuff. This will mean that I might have to uninstall it when I'm done using it for fishing, either that or disable it from the log on screen.
still works like a charm. just fyi. very handy when farming cloth n greens from low level instances where you have to loot everything.
Does anyone know how to open the config GUI in older version of this addon? /tc config doesn't seem to work. Nor is it in the Blizz menu. By older I mean pre-cataclysm. ver3.3.5
