About TriviaBot

Purpose

TriviaBot
The quiz addon we love is back!

TriviaBot allows the user to host quiz games for other players.
Spamming it in /say in crowded places or /general is not a good idea,
but Blizzard's spam prevention makes it alot harder to abuse it that way currently.

It's a nice and safe pass-time among consenting adults. :-)
Used best in the custom channel, a party with friends or to liven up that "dead" guild chat.

Usage

  • /triviabot or /trivia to bring up it's control panel.
  • then you can use the dropdowns to select among different Question Lists and Categories.
  • set the output and customize the announce intervals, reporting options etc.

Other Commands

  • /trivia help will list other commands.
  • !tb help whispered to a game host will list other whisper commands.

Quizzes

With version 2.8.0 and later
TriviaBot no longer contains pre-packaged Quizzes with the main download!

  • Quizzes are instead coming in the form of separate Load on Demand addons called Quiz plugins.
  • This allows the game to load much faster since Question Lists are not loaded until the Quiz host selects them from the TriviaBot control panel.
  • Gives you the option to install only quiz themes and languages that interest you.
  • Allows the community to create and share quizzes without having to wait for the main addon to be repackaged.

You need at least one quiz plugin installed for TriviaBot to be able to host a game.
More will be added as users or the TriviaBot Team creates new quiz plug-ins.

Making your own load on demand Quiz

  • A sample addon and basic instructions (README_EN.txt) on how to create your own quiz
    can be found in TriviaBot\Questions\ sub-folder coming with TriviaBot v2.8.0 and later.
  • TriviaBot_QuestionMaker is still available for helping with the question file.
    More details on the QuestionMaker page on how to submit your questions for inclusion to a Quiz Plug-in.
    If you create and upload a new Quiz be sure to make a comment or file a ticket
    or drop us a PM so the link can be included to the Quiz Addons list on this page.

From version 2.7.0 and later there's no longer a need for fans to scour the source files for strings to modify.
If you want to help translate the interface or output to your language

  • Visit the Localization page.
  • Find your language in the list and click the number of untranslated phrases (eg. ruRU)
  • Submit your translated terms and they will be included with the addon in a future minor update.

Due to the complete rework of question format for 2.5.x you can't use old questions from 2.4.x and earlier.

    Please fix this addon. Its an amazing addon and all but there's an error everytime someone answers a question correctly and the bot stops generating the rest of the questions. Well, at least it does that for the 200 questions I made in the TriviaBot QuestionMaker...

    I want to know how to create a set of my own questions. We have alot of younger members, new to wow, and a few older ones as well. Having trivia regarding oldies or other basic things would be nice -- for example: How many sides does a stop sign have?.. etc..

    I tried to open the question list and it says that it cannot open. I have downloaded the question packs - but they are too hard, therefore no one wants to play .. and its not fun for them.

    Can we get a pack of Easy Questions.. or tell me how to do it and I will be happy to spend time on it.. -- I can come up with questions and answers too if that will help..

    Easy or hard is very relative, i think the Cataclysm mods where pretty easy but that can be different for you.

    If you want to create your pack get a look on the addon files, there are some examples there that explain how to do it, or try the question maker http://www.curse.com/addons/wow/triviabot_questionmaker


     I was trying to create a pack that was many packs that are out there but all of them in one file making the variation of the questions far better, when I select the pack ingame it doesn't load, it gives no msg of error, the other packs are still working fine.

    Is there a limit for questions on one pack or it wasn't loading becouse I did something wrong?(I think the file was with 2000 questions or something like that)
    Is there any way to add the option to get questions from more than one pack at the same time?

    What did you try to open the questions file with? Should work perfectly fine with any basic editor (such as Notepad).

     


    The format is pretty simple:

     

    TriviaBot_Questions[2]['Question'][1] = "'7x' was used to refer to the secret ingredient of what drink";
    TriviaBot_Questions[2]['Answers'][1] = {"coca cola"};
    TriviaBot_Questions[2]['Category'][1] = 1;

    Uploaded a new quiz

    Hello, just letting you know that I uploaded a quiz today. If you read this quickly, it will probably still be awaiting approval. My quiz contains only questions relevant to the Mists of Pandaria expansion. I figured it'd be nice to have considering the newest downloadable quiz you have on this page is from Cata.

    201 questions. Not as impressive as the 1000 question quiz that has questions from vanilla to cata, but enough to not repeat over and over, I believe.

    edit: This is completely off topic, but when running Triviabot, I often have to skip questions because it will not continue on it's own. Answering the question -again- after a correct answer is already given accomplishes the same thing.

    Occasionally, I have to restart the round because neither of those things will force it to continue, even answer someone has answered correctly. Is there a fix for this coming? Love the addon, and I can work with it fine, but it would be great if these issues could be fixed.

    Having the same issue, it doesn't seem to want to let anyone else but me win, and it stops working when someone else answers correctly. I like this addon, but it's not really working =\

    The game does crash whenever someone answers correctly. The only way that it will continue to the next question is I hit the skip question button. Then it repeats the correct answer again and goes to next question.

    Whenever another person in my guild answers a question correctly, the game crashes.  I can answer correctly but they cant.

    Set to guild chat.

    Just updated trivia bot to the 5.0.4 working version with the update.

    The question lists I have show they are out of date.

    Fixed in 2.8.5b-50001.

    It's safe to tick "report personal" again if you so choose.

    No but you can have 'infinite' mode by setting rounds to 0 (if I recall correctly, don't have access to WoW atm)

    That seems to be working for right now.  Thank you, also. Is ther ea way to set games up for say, 25 rounds and then it automatically restarts when thats done?

    For now try uncheck the "Report Personal" option until I have a chance to debug this Smile

    If it's what I think I'm amazed no one reported this error before...

    Edit: Well I'm not so amazed after all, it's a recent change with UnitSex() used to always report a valid sexID, can return 0 in MoP.

    Will be fixed next update.
