About Water Elemental Silencer

Do the bubbling water sounds of the Water Elemental Pets make you yearn for a bathroom break? This tiny addon takes no memory and simply silences the bubbling water sounds, leaving the rest of the attack sounds intact.

To Install: Extract the "Data" folder contained in this zip file into your World of Warcraft folder. This will create a folder called "Sound" under (inside) the game's "Data" folder. When the game runs it will substitute any sounds it finds there for equivalent sounds in the game. (See screenshot images for illustration.) Do not use the Curse Client Auto-installer. It is a known problem that it does not handle sound mod addons properly.

To Uninstall: Rename or delete the "Sound" folder under (inside) your game's "Data" folder.

Notes on Installation: Zip/Unzip programs vary in how they work. The end result must be that a folder called "Sound" is created under (inside) your game's "Data" folder. Restart game after installation. (If your Unzip program is confusing you, try unzipping to your Desktop and then simply copying the "Sound" folder to your WoW "Data" folder.)

I wish I could just take you to dinner some place that's uber fancy. That would be the appropriate thanks for developing this much needed add-on! This little mage thanks you eternally! xD

I'm so glad this addon is helpful to you all.  Note that, at the request of Shroomblaze, I worked on a version that would work with the glyphed elemental (Unbound Water Elemental).  He was able to find the proper sound files in the MPQ file, which was a great help, and he got it working for himself.

I've incorporated those files in the latest version of Water Elemental Silencer but I have no way of testing them to make sure they are working.  So if anyone is using the Unbound Water Elemental, I'd appreciate any feedback.  What I did was cut the volume by 20 decibels.

I'm glad you like it.  I created the darn thing for myself when I was bringing up my Mage and I thought there might be others who were barely enduring the gurgling.

I installed this addon manually, and I do not get the water elemental sounds...HOWEVER, I do get this annoying droning buzz sound that won't go away.

Any way to remove that? lol.

I've never heard this problem reported.  All this addon does is replace the water sound with one that is 20 decibels lower in volume.  Are you sure it's not something else on your character that's making the sound.  Here are some things I would try.

    1.  Try taking off all armor and weapons, then listen for the sound. If the sound is associated with a trinket or other gear, this should tell you.

    2.  Try another character and see if the sound persists.

    3.  Make sure you have the sound file in the right place.  The path to the file should be:

    World of Warcraft/Data/Sound/Creature/Waterelemental/WaterElementalLoop.ogg

A common mistake is to put the file under the "Addons" folder.

    4.  If all else fails, it's easy to remove this addon by simply deleting the WaterElementalLoop.ogg file.  Then when the game starts it will not find the substitute file and will play the normal sound in your .mpq file and you'll be back to hearing the bubbles.

I'm sorry you're having problems but I don't know of any way this addon would cause a droning buzz.

I am having trouble getting this add on to work I have tried it several times here is the path to where I unzipped it:  I would greatly appreciate it if  you could help me get this to work as you are getting great reviews from the vast majority of players using this mod. Also I am tired of feeling like there is a water bubbler right behind me!!

    C:\Program Files (x86)\World of Warcraft\Interface\AddOns\Data\Sound\Creature\WaterElemental

    Thank You!

Yep.  Wrong folder.  It doesn't go under your "/Interface/Addons" folder at all.  There is another Data folder right in your WoW folder.

Try this.  Unzip the zipped file on your desktop and a folder called "Data" will fall out.  Now browse  to your World of Warcraft folder and  simply copy the "Data" folder into your WoW folder.  This will create a folder called "Sound" under your "World of Warcraft/Data" folder.

Sweet this is Awesome thank you so much Laughing I realy like Frost Mage but I haven't been playing her much because of that ZOMG Bubbling!!! If it were once in a while it would be tolerable, I have hearing problems with chunks of my hearing range missing or dodgy. That burbling bubbling sound overpowers things I really need to or want to hear. I definitely will check out your other files as there are others that get annoying after awhile on my Battle Pets & Hunter Pets Kiss

After copying the dummy file from this zip, the game still plays the sound from the .mpq file for me. And it still gets stuck in an infinite loop that persists even after dismissing the elemental and hitting /reload. YMMV.

The sound should never persist after dismissing the pet.  Sounds like you have something else going on there.  As far as installing the sound file, if you follow the directions carefully, the dummy sound file should be located at:

    /data/sound/creature/WaterElemental/WaterElementalLoop.ogg

Hope this helps, but you might want to turn in a ticket regarding the sound persisting after dismissing the pet.

Apparently some others agree.  It's one of my more popular downloads.  I wonder if a lot more Mages are going frost to more easily survive the quests in Pandaria.
