About Wikky's Whistle Helper

Very simple addon that warns by text, sound and screen border flashing whenever Helpful Wikky appears.

Helpful Wikky is a NPC summoned by Helpful Wikky's Whistle. Wikky brings a Bag of Helpful Things after you kill 50 enemies.

The addon works with English, French, German, Portuguese, Russian and Spanish clients.

Credits to Akryn from for some of his code.

A button now displays when Wikky returns. Clicking this button will target and mark Wikky so you can find him more easily.

    I noticed the kill counter goes up even though you are killing grey mobs. Im at 570% now and no Wikky.

    Thanks for your time but this doesn't work for me. No sound, no warning , no marks..

    I think I know why I am missing wikky so much. Today I noticed the flavor text of Helpful Wikki and noticed a global error. When I clicked on it I got this:

    Date: 2013-08-01 17:29:21
    ID: 43
    Error occured in: Global
    Count: 1
    Message: CreateFrame: Can't create protected 'Button' now
    [C]: ?
    [C]: ?
    [C]: ?
    [C]: CreateFrame()
    Wikky\Wikky.lua:228: ShowWWHPopup()

    I think this error is preventing the alert sounds, setting the icon and the rest of the features. I usually see this when i am fighting a big group of mobs.  Is there a way we can turn the button off?

    I got Helpful Wikky's Whistle today & when I was reading the wowhead page about the item, I saw a post recommending this Add-On, it said Wikky is very hard to miss without it. That is an understatement... I missed two bags in a row and decided I'd give the Add-On a chance.

    It works great, and I have to say I'd probably miss out on Wikky 90% of the time if I hadn't installed this. He is tiny and easy to miss, and you don't even realize you have missed him until you notice that the on-use "whistle buff" saying that Wikky is out foraging for you has vanished, and you never got your bag.

    With this, it alerts you in a very prominent way (screen flash, noise, and a marker over Wikky's head) and immediatedly throws up a button you can click to target (and talk to) Wikky. Then is it just as easy as accepting the bag in the dialog box and you can go right back into combat, or whatever else you were doing at the time.

    I think I would have been disappointed with Helpful Wikky's Whistle if I had not found this Add-On. I wouldn't change a thing about it... it does more than I thought it would, in a good way.

    I don't know whether I'm missing something in config but I don't get anything but the raid text announcement. I just downloaded and installed it this week. I can't seem to find a way to configure sounds or anything.

    Yea I am in the same boat as Cern. It used to work fine but now I get no counter, button, marks. I do /wwh on and it says its on. I also get no area to config. Tried redownloading it but not sure it helped (even deleted teh saved var fire under the main dir).

    First I want to thank you for taking the time to make this addon.  But honestly, this addon would be so much better if you scrapped it and replaced it with a simple purple diamond over Wikky's head. All the other warnings you have are either annoying or ineffective. Out of the past 4 times I blew the whistle, I was able to get the loot once. Is there an addon out there that simply places a marker over Wikky's head?

    You know what would be helpful? If your description stated the slash command used to get into the settings or turn the addon on or off.

    There was a bug in the Saved Variables....fixed when i upped the version for the Escalation patch.

    If you have the latest version, and you're kill counter isn't showing, please let me know.

    Thanks for all the features. You've made a good addon great.
    A counter would be a bonus, as the other person mentioned, but don't rush.

    how come my kill count of 50 doesnt show up on my screen? what do i type/ to get this feature?

    When Wikky comes back, a button now displays.

    Clicking this button selects Wikky and marks him for ease of finding.

    Anything else?  I can't think of anything else possibly needed.

    If you are in combat when monkey arrives - addons are not allowed to create buttons/windows.

    So your addon throws an error.

    But you can create an event hook to display your button after character leaves combat.

    You could look up how it is done in NPCScan.
