About Wikky's Whistle Helper

Very simple addon that warns by text, sound and screen border flashing whenever Helpful Wikky appears.

Helpful Wikky is a NPC summoned by Helpful Wikky's Whistle. Wikky brings a Bag of Helpful Things after you kill 50 enemies.

The addon works with English, French, German, Portuguese, Russian and Spanish clients.

Credits to Akryn from Wowinterface.com for some of his code.

A button now displays when Wikky returns. Clicking this button will target and mark Wikky so you can find him more easily.

    Hello, i really like this helpful addon, but one thing i am having trouble with wikky is finding him. When he comes back i have usually been fighting and there is usually a bunch of dust in the air or dead boddies all around me. Wikky is very small and his fur color helps him blend in with the surrounds. I would like it if he was marked maybe with an icon like we use to mark the bosses and adds in the game with. I think this would make it a lot easier to find him before he dies. Tyvm, DrKure of Misha

    I'd like to second this; and preferably one of the blue / purple icons so it doesn't get lost in the predominantly green backgrounds for those of us who are colorblind. :P

    Hmm I upgraded today and now it doesn't work. No sound or warning whenyou summon him or when he comes back. Anyone else have this Issue?

  • #18

    works fine for me

    and since 1.1 the warning only appears when Wikky comes back, not when he's summoned.

    Actually there's a small chance that Wikky spawns in a unbelievable stupid place (e.g. you're at the surface of the ocean, he decides to come back on the ground of it, most likely too far away to notice him talking).

    I'd like to request a new helpful feature: reminding me to use the damn whistle in the first place! :p

    :) I do this by putting it on an action bar with a cooldown timer. But yea I even then forget to use it. :)

    Any way to count the number of kills left till he reappears?  Love the addon has helped allot.

    A nice idea. I got the whistle recently, and can see how this could be useful, so will check it out.

    Basically I ran into the same problems (e.g. multiple alerts and such) when setting up a WeakAuras notification for the same purpose. There seems to be no reliable way to handle it other than reacting to Wikky talking (which is, of course, no reliable way - ironically). The whole Wikky implementation is an unbelievable mess...

    After some heavy headache I ended up with two triggers, one checking for the presence of the Whistly in your bag and the second one triggering the CHAT_MSG_MONSTER_SAY event and calling a LUA function

    function(event, msg, sender)
        local itemID = 86594 -- the Whistle item
        local itemCD = 7200 -- has 2 hours CD
        local nameEN = "Helpful Wikky"
        local despawnTimer = 40 -- add 10 secs to be sure he's gone
        local notJustCalled = false
        local startTime, duration, enable = GetItemCooldown(itemID)
        local timeSinceCall = floor(GetTime() - startTime)
        if timeSinceCall > despawnTimer then notJustCalled = true end
        if sender == nameEN and notJustCalled then
            return true
        end
        return false
    end

    Wikky dies 30 seconds after using the whistle, no matter if you talk to him and keep the dialog window open or not. The only way to prevent this to actually send him away within those 30 seconds. He talks when you blow the whistle, he talks when you send him out to get the bag... Usually you want no alerts at this point, you just want to know when he comes back after the 50 kills. This does the trick. Ignore his talking for 30 (or to be safe say 40, he talks if you send him after 29 secs) seconds after using the whistle (item cooldown). It works reliable for me and friends testing.

    Only drawback would be if you're imba enough to kill 50 mobs (that actually count!) by yourself within those half minute right after blowing the whistle (you have to send him away anyways, already consuming some seconds), which is rather unlikely. You won't need any notification in that case anyways because your're probably god or something.

    It might help you improving your addon. Feel free to do whatever you want with that information/code. :-)

    Regards

    Please put a marker above Wikky's head. He tends to spawn under pets and stuff and is impossible to see. After one min he despawns.

    Great addon.  I love it!  And this is NOT a complaint, just a suggestion, but the addon could be even better if the alert were even more noticeable.  Even just as it is though, it's a great addon.  Thanks.

    Agree with tim - it would be really nice if the addon popped up a large, impossible-to-miss frame, ideally including a SecureButton you can click on to target Wikky, open the chat dialog and click his Gossip option.

    Great addon. Potential to add a bigger alert? Like a pop-up box that has to be dismissed or something?

    The addon works great for Wikky but it's interferring with my hunter's pet bar. As long as I have this addon active, none of the pet bars for my pets shows. Once this addon is disabled, the pet bars are back. Is there a way to fix this?
