About WOWScribe Chat Logger

WOWScribe 4.0.3
===============

WOWScribe is a small addon that allows you to log the chat channels of your
choice (including the numbered channels).

The chat is logged to "[WOW directory]/Logs/WoWChatLog.txt".

Features:

You can set any chat channel (Say, Guild, Raid, Whisper, Emote, RealID, General)

You can also log channels by number (1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9)

Installation:

If you already have a "[WOW directory]/Interface/Addons" directory, skip to Step 4.

If you have never installed an addon, you must create the Addons directory:

1.  Go to your WoW installation directory.

2.  If the folder "Interface" does not exist, create it.

3.  In the folder "Interface", create the folder "Addons".

4.  Move/Copy the WOWScribe directory to the "Addons" folder.

Usage:
======

/wowscribe
    all by itself will give you the usage statement

/wowscribe start
    starts the logging

/wowscribe stop
    stops the logging

/wowscribe status
    displays the current settings

/wowscribe add <channelname or number>
    adds the channel to the list being logged.
    using 'basic' as the channel will turn on guild, say, and emotes

/wowscribe remove <channelname or number>
    removes the channel from the list being logged
    using 'all' as the channel will turn all off
    
All commands and chat channel names are case insensitive.

Default channels logged are Guild, Say, and Emote.

Notes:
======

Guild, Party, and Raid add a string that looks like "|Hchannel:raid|h[Raid]|h" or "|Hchannel:guild|h[Guild]|h" to the chat log. This is a WOW thing, not something added by WOWScribe. I have tried filtering it it out, but since all WOWScribe does is turn logging off and on for specific channels, there is nothing I can do about this.

    Hi there, first of let me say thanks for the addon. I am using it in my guild to log conversations, which i then use an external program to generate statistics. If you are familiar with mIRCstats you will understand what I mean, if not please feel free to check them out at www.http://reincarnation.hostoi.com/reincarnation.html

    I am writing to ask you for help with logging when people come on or go offline. This would be really handy for tacking various statistics which require the external program to know when people login/out.

    For example, if it would be possible to generate a log which looks something like:

    11/4 15:26:38.000  |Hchannel:GUILD|h[Guild]|h Verfix has come online

    11/4 15:26:40.899  |Hchannel:GUILD|h[Guild]|h Verfix: yo dawg

    Is there a way to change where it saves the chat log based upon what account is logged in? or do all accounts log to the same txt file?

    Great addon, I love it. I have some feedback about RealID chat whispers. Instead of displaying the person's name, it just shows this:

    To |Kf26|k00000000000000|k: Hm
    |Kf26|k00000000000000|k whispers: denied

    Is this a limitation of WoWScribe or just an oversight? Thanks.

    It's a limitation of WoW's chat logging routine. Wowscribe uses wow's built in chat logging system, and that logging system filters out RealID names. I'm afraid the odd code that replaces their name is the best I can do with RealID.

    Okay, today I've added support for RealID whispers, but only tested it with them inline rather than in the bizarrely named Toast window. It should update in a few hours with the new version, so let me know how that goes. Syntax is the same as ever, /wowscribe add realid

    I am sorry that I have not updated WowScribe for 4.0. I do not play WOW anymore, so I really have no way to update and test it. Thank you so much, Trickster, for updating it! Is there anything I can do to help?

    Great addon - looks like just what I need in my quest to reduce the addon overhead of in-game logging addons (eg. Elephant).

    A couple of things comp to mind:

    Is it possible to add officer chat?
    I understand you cannot have the addon log different channels to different text files, but does anyone know a way to parse or post-process them into different files without having to manually hunt line-by-line? It'd certainly easier to identify a specific conversation that way.

    I have a question please. I often forget to turn on chatlog when I am asking questions about classes or talents or spells etc and I often have to scroll back up if it isn't too late and take screenshots of the chat.

    Anyhow my question is - does this automatically start logging all the channels you specify once you log in to the game or do you give us a LDB button to turn it on and off when needed. I am hoping it has on onscreen button to toggle it on and off.

    It automatically continues logging once you turn it on, even if you quit the game and come back to it later. It is based on text commands only, though, no buttons.

    I just found this addon. Very nice! I receive all sorts of messages in-game asking for help on addon issues so this really helps me to keep track of everything. Any possibility of recording the ReadID channel as well? I tried to add "realid" as a channel and it appeared to work as WS_Status() shows it but nothing is appearing in the logs.
