The wait is finally over. The rumors have been around since February and probably earlier, and now the joint project between BioWare and LucasArts has been announced.
The project is none other than Star Wars: The Old Republic. GameSpot has a great video from the media event held today to reveal the game, which is definitely worth checking out. In it GameSpot interviews a number of major players from both BioWare and LucasArts; even those directly involved in the development of the MMO. There is also a huge overview of the game on GameSpot with information on the story, why KotOR 3 took a back seat to The Old Republic, and more.
Star Wars: The Old Republic is set 300 years after the Knights of the Old Republic games, putting it around 3600 years before the Star Wars movies. BioWare promises to introduce story to the MMO space like never before seen, and gameplay choices made throughout your time playing will have impactful ramifications on your experience. These are very big words, but as BioWare has proven, they can deliver on them. Will they -- newbies to the MMO genre -- be able to deliver on them this time?
What do you think? Are you as excited as we are about Star Wars potentially done right as an MMO?
